This gripping psychological thriller from L.G. Davis delivers a truly immersive experience. As a new encounter with this author's work, I found myself thoroughly engaged by the central premise of a woman waking with no recollection of her life, or the man claiming to be her husband. The narrative immediately establishes an unsettling atmosphere as she grapples with pervasive feelings that something is deeply amiss in her new reality.
The plot swiftly unravels, revealing layers of suspense and concealed truths. The protagonist's journey to uncover her past, and the true nature of her relationship with her supposed spouse, keeps the reader on edge. The story is packed with unexpected turns and revelations, ensuring that predictability is not an issue. It maintains a compelling pace, skillfully building tension without becoming overwhelming.
While the intricate web of secrets can be quite dense, requiring close attention, the satisfying unraveling of the mystery makes the effort worthwhile. This book excels as a fast-paced domestic thriller, perfect for those who enjoy being kept in constant suspense. I appreciated the clever way the narrative unfolds, gradually bringing critical details to light and challenging initial perceptions. Overall, it's a very strong offering in the genre, demonstrating skillful storytelling that will resonate with fans of twisty psychological dramas.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Well this one is sure twisty! A spooky house, and elderly woman with dementia, and suspicious homeowners. Sounds like the perfect setting for a very good thriller! Enjoyed diving into this story and the unexpected twists kept me turning pages!

I enjoyed this thriller. The short chapters were much appreciated and it was such a quick read. The characters, the writing and storyline were all done really well. I have read a couple other books from this author and they were also really good. I’ll definitely keep this author on my radar for future releases.

After a devastating accident, Cora has no recollection of her past life but her husband is so caring and fills in the gaps in her memory that she can’t help but trust him. With her husband’s elderly aunt Mary also living with them at their remote farmhouse, Cora feels that she must try her best to regain her memory so she can help with Mary’s care but then she starts to hear mysterious noises coming from the basement and pretty soon the tension really starts to creep up so that you are never really certain what is truth and what are cleverly constructed lies.

This is the type of book that you want to read in one sitting as the shocks, once they start, really do come thick and fast until you are almost afraid to turn the page for fear of what’s going to happen next. I thought all the characters in this complex plot were really well described, Cora comes across as a person who is so lost and alone and yet even though she suspects that there something going on, it’s just out of reach, and she can’t discover what is happening in this house of horrors ,until it’s too late.

Not His Wife is a suspenseful locked room thriller in which all the participants blur the boundaries in a compelling story which is clearly written by a writer who knows how to keep up the momentum of a complicated plot whilst revealing just enough clues to keep you turning the pages faster and faster.

What an addicting psychological thriller. So many thrills and chills. Several of the twists had my head spinning! I never could have guessed how everything would play out. I loved the sense of dread and doom that lingered throughout the pages. It kept me guessing until the very end! A very well done page turner!

What a ride! Not His Wife is full of twists - some you might see coming, but tons you won't see coming. Definitely give this a read!

In Not His Wife, our narrator is Cora - a woman who is suffering from amnesia, recalling certain details about herself with ease, and lacking any recollection on the main details. Her name, the house, her husband, all seem foreign. As her husband, Evan, explains how she lost her memory, and more about their life together, Cora feels more confused as very little seems familiar. As she tries to uncover more about her life, she starts to unravel secrets and lies she wasn't meant to know.

One of my favorite things about a good thriller is the ride. You want to be able to guess some things, but be completely surprised by others. The pacing has to be right - not too slow, not too fast. This checked all the right boxes.

Also, I know how some people feel about an amnesia trope, but trust me, this one was great!

Definitely recommend reading Not His Wife, if you get a chance!

L. G. Davis is a must read author for me. Her newest book, which I received on NetGalley, is her best yet. It starts off with a woman waking up from a coma. That storyline can go either way for me. I love it or hate it. This one was the best yet. The whole time you know something is wrong but you’re not quite sure what. I had so many theories flying around my head and I was still shocked at every turn. This book will have you glued to your seat, unable to look up.

This is my eighth book by Davis and is up there as one of my favourites.

Can you imagine waking up and not knowing where you were or who you were? For me that would be a panic attack in the making! I can't even begin to imagine how Cora was feeling, can you?

The story is narrated from several POV, with Cora's being the main event. It's a moderately paced read with some unexpected twists and a gobsmacker of an ending.

It's an intense and addictive read which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I am completely stunned after reading Not His Wife by L.G. Davis, and although I didn’t know what to expect, I found myself drawn in from the prologue until the very end! The cover of the book asserts that it’s “a totally gripping psychological thriller with a gasp-out-loud twist”. Well happy reader am I, because there were quite a few of those. . . the biggest gasp was at the very end when the answer to the one main question that kept gnawing at me throughout was finally revealed!

This is an edge-of-your-seat sinister thriller with cliffhanger chapter endings making you say ‘Just one more chapter!’ It’ll mess with your mind wondering who these characters really are and questioning EVERYTHING each one is doing. Just when I thought I understood what was happening, I was wrong! Kept me guessing throughout. Brilliant book!

Thank you, L.G. Davis and NetGalley for the ARC opportunity! This was my first book by the author and the next one I will pick up is Liar Liar.

📆 single, non-linear timeline
🐢 -🐇 medium paced

Not His Wife had me gripped from the first page to the last. I was immediately drawn into the story and was so transfixed that I didn't even try and guess the twists. Which is just as well, as I wouldn't have got it right! There were twists galore and the overall story was deliciously dark!

I can't really say much else as I always keep my reviews spoiler free. But if you like dark, twisty psychological thrillers then this is the book for you.

Cora has no idea who or where she is when she wakes up in a room she doesn't even remember. After having an accident and suffering from memory loss she is relying on the man in front of her saying :"I am your husband" is who he says he is. Over time she gets little fragments of memory come back to her and it frightens her.
A great book with a really big twist right at the end.

When Cora wakes from a fall with no memory of her life, she turns to her husband Evan for support. He gently guides her back into their daily routines, including helping care for his elderly aunt, who is battling dementia. But something doesn’t feel quite right. As Cora adjusts to her unfamiliar surroundings, she begins to uncover remnants of the house’s past — forgotten belongings, hidden notes, and a lingering sense that things aren't as they seem. A curious neighbor claims the previous owner vanished without a trace, setting Cora on a path of discovery that challenges everything she's being told. With her memory still in fragments, Cora must rely on her instincts and the clues around her to piece together the truth — before it’s too late.

This novel is brilliantly plotted, with twists that are both shocking and seamless. Just when you think you have it figured out, another revelation turns everything on its head. It’s clever, surprising, and completely absorbing — a true page-turner that keeps you questioning reality right along with Cora.

A woman wakes up in a bedroom, with no recollection of who she actually is and why she ended up in the bedroom. A man sitting beside her, tells her that her name is Cora and that he is her husband Evan. Evan tells her that she had an accident and is suffering from amnesia which explained why she doesn't remember anything. As Cora is getting used to the surroundings, she couldn't help feel that something is wrong in the house. A woman claiming to be Evan's great-aunt tells Cora that she is not actually Evan's wife. And something is going down in the basement.

This was an interesting and fast paced thriller that you couldn't put the book down. You have Cora and then you have another character named Gabrielle who is struggling financially. We have another woman who seemingly disappeared mysteriously. And then we have a family, who claimed that the farmhouse belong to someone else. This was intriguing as well and the whole book was filled with twists and turns.

The ending was the biggest twist and the most unexpected one as a matter of fact. I didn't really expect that type of ending at all.

Overall this book is worth 4.5 stars.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

When Cora wakes up after a terrible accident, all memory of her life before is gone. With amnesia, Cora must rely on a man who is telling her he is her husband Evan, but she doesn't recognize him. As Cora goes about exploring the farmhouse where she is told she lives, Cora finds another woman's things. When Evan tells her that they belong to the woman who lived in the farmhouse before, Cora begins to dig a bit deeper. Why would this other woman leave so much stuff behind, including a locket and some photos? As Cora continues to piece together who she is and what came before, Evan's Aunt drops a bombshell on Cora, telling her that she needs to get out because she's not his wife. But what happens when Cora's memories come back?

L.G. Davis is a highly underrated author in my opinion. This is the third or fourth book that I have read and they just keep getting better! From the first page, I was hooked! The good old smnesia trope can be overplayed, but with this story it felt original. As we start to unravel who Cora is and what happened, the tension and suspense build beautifully. One way that Davis excels in her thrillers is how she creates the stifling claustrophobia that stays with you. The twists are well executed and just when you believe you have a handle on what's going on, she pulls the rug out from underneath you! Overall, I would definitely recommend to readers who want to read a tight twist filled domestic thriller!

Thank you to NetGalley, L.G. Davis, and Bookouture this Arc! Publication date is July 15th 2025.
