Wierdly this was an interesting read, even though at times I had no idea what was happening or what would happen next.
I did almost give up but I read to the end and found that I enjoyed it.
Set in a recovery center Cora has no idea how she ended up there, but fater an accident she discovers that there is a lot more to the facility than she would expect.
It is a chilling horror story but quite good. I'm glad I stuck with it

This book was fine. I enjoyed the plot and found the plot twist interesting. The pacing was decent, although it did feel a bit rushed at times. I was not a fan of the characters. They didn’t feel like real people, but they also weren’t simply thematic stand-ins. All in all, I think this book has promise, and I see myself reading more of this series, but overall this book was not a standout. It was pretty comprehensively fine.

The twist on this one was absolutely brilliant.
This story follows Cora Archeron in this facility-type institution and she is completely confused about how she got there, who these people are, and what secrets the building and it's residents hold. She finds herself on a path of discovery - the truth, but she's unaware that it's her story that's unfolding before her eyes. Everyone speaks in riddles and nothing makes sense, but that's the beauty of it, you're not supposed to have the answers handed to you. This story proves that not everything is in black and white, morally grey still exists in the world and you're about to find out how.
After I finished reading this book I felt betrayed but also vindicated, I knew deep in my bones not to trust anybody and I was right. This book probably isn't for the faint of heart given the graphic descriptions of certain horrors, so I'd say tread lightly upon walking into this one, but there's no way I won't be recommending it to horror fans nonetheless.
The only reason there is a missing star is because I was very confused for a solid 70% of this book and I really didn't understand what people were saying but now it kind of makes sense? I'd say a 4.25 rating would be more accurate.
Bravo Mr Barsuglia.

I felt like I was reading a script, not a story, and no room was left for the reader to engage their brain and take logical leaps that keep a story on pace and increasing the tension. The unknown became exhausting rather than a source of energy, and the main character's decisions made no sense.
2 star because the last chunk of the book about accountability and the afterlife was really well done, and felt like reading a different book. That was where the magic happened.
I am intrigued enough that I'm going to try the next books in the series, because I think the world of Seven Rivers is a great concept.

I couldn’t make myself give this five stars. Maybe it deserves it, but I needed that final star to give me some light in the total darkness that this horror story brings to the reader. The start is explained by the end of this twisted tail, as it should. Yet the stories path wasn’t what I expected at all. Brutal violence throughout, no respite once you are past the first couple of chapters. Yet there is an engaging style to the writing. It slips an arm around you, pulls you in, then bashes you unmercifully on the head. Be warned! Thank you to Koa Aloha Media and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
