The next chapter in Last Ronin. It takes place 10 years after the Last Ronin is defeated. It has the same feeling as the first Ronin book, which I wasn't expecting. I love the flashbacks and the way color was used. It was a fun exciting book.

My husband has been keeping up with this collection, this is what he said:

The initial 5 issue run of The Last Ronin was everything fans of the Turtles could ask for. Building up on 40+ years of world and characters, the creators weaved an epic yet satisfying tale of loss, heartbreak, grief, and vengeance. It truly felt like a novel entry into a world we already loved. It showed us the turtles as knew them, but also as we've never seen them before: dark, gritty, and at their end.

After the extreme success of the original run, the creators set out to expand upon this new world they've built with The Last Ronin : The Lost Years and now with this newest entry, The Last Ronin 2. Each new entry continues in the dark, futuristic world of Ronin, attempting to build upon the greatness of the original series. However, despite Eastman's continued involvement and stunning illustrations from the Ezcorsa brothers, something feels missing.

The conclusion of the original run ended in the (spoilers!) loss of the majority of all of our favorite characters. Yet, it was upon this premise that the run soared. We saw Michelangelo at his lowest, dealing with the loss of everyone he knew and loved. We saw what this did to him, but also how it forced him to grow into the Ronin. The Ronin was not a mantle to be assumed for a long time, but rather one final step for him to achieve his purpose. With these new entries in the Roninverse, the writers are taking this approach to reinvent the IP for a new generation of fans.

None of this is bad, of course, but at best it feels like a lesser imitation of something we've already had. All of the major players in the story are parallels to those we already had. New warring factions and leaders are established, but they feel nothing more than backdrops for action to occur.

April is the bridge between these two worlds, but the April from TMNT and the April we have in Ronin are hard to recognize as the same person. Casey Jones lives on in the daughter, Casey Marie, who takes on the role of sensei and to her own new squad of four new mutant amphibians. Odyn, Moja, Uno, and Yi are an interesting new group of mutants with their own unique abilities which begin to fully be realized in this latest iteration, but even at its best it never reaches the highs of Ronin or TMNT.

There is a lot to like here for fans of the original IP and new fans. Yet for me, the more I read the more I feel overly satiated. The novelty of more Turtles has mostly worn off, resulting in a story which feels at its best when it's parroting what came before.

Returning to the world of The Last Ronin, the creators had a large task ahead of them in following up on the original story. They managed to tell a great story, but I just couldn't quite fall in love with it as much as I have other Turtles tales and wasn't able to connect with the characters quite as much as the originals. I will always poke my head in and check on the characters in the future and hope that I will enjoy the next tale a bit more.

Special Thanks to IDW Publishing and Netgalley for the digital ARC. This was given to me for an honest review.

This was a fantastic followup to the first Volume of The Last Ronin (one of my favorite TMNT stories ever)!
This starts us on a fresh adventure with new characters. Ones I grew attached to very quickly. The ending is very unexpected and definitely left me anticipating more enjoyable stories to come.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution was a comic that tried to live up to it's predecessor, but fell short.

There were many things that I just did not enjoy when reading this book. In particular, I felt that the 2 page spread for a vast amount of the comic was not the best idea for reading on an e-reader. Having to constantly adjust from regular comic panels to that really threw off my reading pace and attention. I would get comfortable reading and then all of the sudden the switch would make it a bit hard for me to follow the flow.

Continuing on, the new generation was not as easy to fall into as the originals. While the characters are somewhat interesting, they are just not as captivating as Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo. It felt like they were just shadows of what once was.

Finally, the dialogue itself was both over- and underwhelming. Additionally, the use of italics was getting to be quite tedious. I understand that they are used to emphasize words, but a good amount of them could have been left as normal.

All in all, this was just an okay read for me, but I still encourage others to seek it out if they are looking for something different.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this early.

TMNT: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution is an engaging legacy sequel to the Last Ronin full of emotion, action, and serves as a great introduction to the new turtles. The legacy characters are interesting, and the new characters feel fresh and engaging. The series has a lot of promise overall, and hopefully the series will continue to develop the new turtles and the idea of their continued mutations. As it currently stands, this is not a perfect introduction to the legacy of TMNT, but it will certainly intrigue fans of the universe.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book.

I'm not a huge Ninja Turtles fan, but this comic was more than interesting. It's full of action, tragic, and exciting moments. For fans, it should be a gem and a great start to the series.

I liked the illustrations. I still don't quite understand how women sometimes fight with so little armor or clothing, but that's something deeply personal, and I know things aren't going to change.

A great start to the story!

Thank you, IDW Publishing, for the ARC I read on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is way more in-depth than I thought it could be. Love the dirty future mutant tech style artwork.

The Last Ronin II -- Re-Evolution takes place 16 years after the events of The Last Ronin (the single greatest TMNT graphic novel ever made). The Foot Clan has been defeated for over a decade but new threats rises up to take over the city. Will the Resistance and the new TMNTs stop the tide or will they be crushed underneath the waves?

As an 80s and 90s kid, I absolutely loved (and still do) the Ninja Turtles. The original graphic novel (check it out if you are a TMNT fan and have never read it) was gritty and tense and sad in ways that TMNT had rarely ever explored before. It was incredible. This sequel does a really good job of retaining the essence of what made the first one so great while exploring the dynamics of 4 different turtles (2 brothers and 2 sisters).

I really loved what they did with the new roster and the way they explored mutations that leveled up the mutations from the original four. Engaging writing, great characters, and an intriguing storyline made this one a wonderful read. The graphic novel covers the first 5 issues of the series with #5 ending on a pretty big cliffhanger. Highly recommend reading this work but definitely suggest reading the first one and The Lost Years prior to beginning.

If you are looking to reading this book, it comes out on July 8th. Go buy it! Excited to see where this series goes! Happy Reading Everyone!

This installment of TMNT is another emotional and captivating offering filled with both nostalgia and new life.

This installment leans into grit and grace in equal measures giving readers both action and heart. I am not sure where we will go next in this series but the door has certainly been left open for even more epic story telling.

Cowabunga!—The Last Ronin II: Re-Evolution #2 doesn’t just wear its nostalgia on its sleeve, it weaponises it. This issue is a slick, emotionally charged ride through the shattered shadows of a world trying to rebuild itself—with the ghosts of four very familiar brothers whispering through every page.

The art? Chef’s kiss. Visceral, sharp, and glorious (even with the watermark on my advanced copy). Every panel feels heavy with memory and purpose, dripping in that gritty, post-Ronin atmosphere fans of the original run will instantly latch onto.

Beneath the mayhem and nostalgia, there’s real heart here. This story is a bold, often poignant exploration of legacy, trauma, and the weight of stepping into the shell of giants. The new generation—Yi, Uno, Odyn, and Moja—are still finding their rhythm, but there’s real promise in their tension, their doubt, their potential. This series is laying the groundwork not just for another chapter in TMNT lore, but for a rebirth.

The Turtles had to evolve. This issue gets that. It honours the past without being shackled by it, and dares to ask what comes next when the legends are gone. Not every beat lands perfectly, but the emotional gut punches hit hard, and the final pages are fantastic!

The future is murky. The shadows are long. But if Re-Evolution keeps this up, the Turtle legacy is in seriously good hands.

A darker world than the original TMNTs. The story and artwork are great and will grab your attention. The plot is well-developed and enjoyable. A good graphic novel, just not one for those who loved the original TMNT.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book has the unenviable task of following The Last Ronin and unfortunately it doesn’t quite live up to it.

I like the characters but i don’t think we get enough time with them. I’d rather spend more time with the new turtles than deal with the generic rebellion storyline.

The art is functional but never great.

The story left me wanting. It ends on a cliffhanger and I think i’ll check out more if we get some but its not a certainty. Shame.

Thank you to IDW and Netgalley for an ARC of this.

3 stars - I liked it

It’s been 16 years since Michelangelo brought down the Foot and died. The resistance is still going strong and fighting daily to push back at the multiple gangs that now fill the town. Casey Marie has been training the new turtles since they could walk and she finally is letting them on the field. But things don’t always go as planned.

I am glad we are getting more stories with this new batch of turtles and this future NY because I was really curious after the previous book if these new turtles would end up having to fight for the resistance. Moja, Uno, Yi, and Odyn were all great because each of them is unique in looks and personalities. While the previous turtles all had different personalities, they mostly looked the same. Also I really like that we have some female turtles now!

This volume ends in a bit of a cliffhanger because a new threat is attacking the resistance and it is causing them to retreat from their main locations. I wasn’t expecting this to end in a cliffhanger, but I think it is a good way to keep me hooked because I really want to know what happens next with the resistance, the turtles, and with Honeycutt.

Thank you Netgalley and IDW Publishing for giving me a chance to review this comic.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II--Re-Evolution" by Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz continues from the previous "The Last Ronin" following the new team of turtles.

This is a great continuation of TMNT: The Last Ronin series.. It shows what would happen after the TMNT were gone and a new team of turtles take up the mantle. I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading more from The Last Ronin series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I grew up reading TMNT comics, watching the movies, and playing with the action figures. Many iterations of the brothers have been created since that time and this is one of the few that do the originals any sort of justice. The Turtles are a new generation of hero’s. The comic and the characters contained within do a good job at paying respect to their predecessors.
The illustrations were A+, the storyline was enough to keep me interested but drug a little at times.
If you grew up with the TMNT then this is worth a read!

The sort of comic I remember devouring when I was a teenager. This is an introduction, without as much ninja action as I might prefer. The turtles are back! Well actually different turtles are back! Well not back really, because they are new mutant ninja turtles. But, they are very much like the originals. Four mixed up, batting for each other, and ready to jump right in to protect everyone. This first part, of a much bigger story, introduces the next bunch of mutated back chatting fun, and their nemesis. There’s a large part of verbal telling of how they came to be - if you’ve followed the turtles before you could skip this bit if you are more untreated in the visual experience. Good start, I want more. Thank you to IDW Publishing and NetGalley for the comic ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

DNF at 10%. This one's just too difficult to read on an iPad via the NetGalley app. Lots of double-page spreads in the opening chapter, but no guided view means having to flip back and forth. The low-resolution nature of the file means that some dialogue is blurry. And then there's the damn watermark IDW insists on sticking in the middle of each and every page to obscure art and text. This review copy is too frustrating to try and devote the time to, so I'll just wait for the published edition to hit the shelves to read. Thanks for the ARC, but it's just not working well here.
