This was a really enjoyable book.
A lot of spice, which I didn't expect, but it didn't bother me.
I really liked the unique concept of Scythes magic. I liked how it was bound to music and nature.
The non-binary representation was really good, which is rare in fantasy books. I liked the pacing and the love story. I liked that all the characters were morally grey and didn't mind killing others and speaking filthy language.
Overall, I had a really good time reading this book.

Of Silver and Curses is a standalone romantasy featuring fated mates, found family, magic and spice.

The story is told in dual POV by our MCs, Scythe and Talon. Scythe is the last witch of the woods and Talon is a cursed werewolf. Both characters are morally grey and will do anything to protect those they love.

I did read the novella first as was recommended and while you don’t have to, I definitely think it’s the way to go as it sets some of the groundwork for the book and gets you more invested in the characters.

The story was giving me cosy vibes at times as it was a pleasant mix of slice of life elements and action. It was easy to read and while there were no real plot twists or surprises, I enjoyed the characters and their banter had me laughing out loud at times.

Of Silver and Curses by Maddox Grey kicks off a captivating new romantasy series with a potent mix of betrayal, magic, and slow-burning tension. Told in dual POV, the story follows a sharp-tongued witch and a brooding cursed werewolf—former lovers turned reluctant allies—as they’re forced into a dangerous mission to rescue their missing sisters. What begins as a journey of necessity becomes an emotional reckoning filled with forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers fire, and rich worldbuilding.

Grey expertly blends spice, shadowy magic, and emotional vulnerability, crafting two wounded protagonists who are as dangerous as they are irresistible. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry undeniable, and their path to trust both heartbreaking and deeply rewarding. With stakes that feel personal and epic all at once, this series opener sets the stage for even more tension and turmoil ahead.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this gripping and gorgeously written romantasy in exchange for my review. Of Silver and Curses is perfect for readers who love morally grey leads, queer longing, and high-stakes magic—and who are ready to be hooked for the rest of the series.

I got to read this as an ARC, thanks to the author and NetGalley.

This was truly delicious and decadent. It was gory and sexy and cute at times. The main characters are so ruthless and passionate, I am thrilled at the outcome of their relationship. Every character in this story was wonderful and unique in some way, perfectly written by the author. The representation woven into this story is done in such a way that it’s natural and lived in, rather than performative.
I love Necos so so so much, I would do anything for her.

Talon and Scythe have serious tension from the start, and I absolutely loved the enby rep. I will absolutely be checking out more of Maddox's work!

You already know how much I love my E2L, forced prox, and tension-filled romances. Well, this one was awesome! In Of Silver and Curses, they've got a complicated past, and watching them circle each other with all that quiet tension and attraction was everything!!! The romance builds slowly but hits hard when it finally breaks through, with just the right mix of heat and emotion. I will say that at some times I felt the pacing left me in a bit of a lull at times where I nearly took a snack break - but the characters had me inhaling the book and I am so glad I read this!

The world is rich and full of magic, curses, and characters you love, and maybe some you hate to love - that's up to you. I really appreciated how naturally Talon's nonbinary identity was written into the story, without it ever feeling forced or overly explained. It just fit. This book gave me all the queer romantasy vibes I love. Intense, tender, a little unhinged, and totally satisfying.

The spice was spicing and I can't wait to reread and add this to my physical shelf!

4 very pleased stars from me <3

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest review! Thank you for the ARC.

This is the first book in this series! I really enjoyed this book so much and can't wait for book 2.

Scythe is our stabby fmc! I felt do bad for her everyone leaves her behind and she is now guarding her part of the forest by herself.

Talon is our curse wolf mmc! They had a wonderful night until he finds out Scythe is a witch😬

Now they have to work together to find their sisters and bring them home. There is a fine line between love and hate!!! Will they make it or will their differences tear them apart.

I would recommend this book to a friend!

Of Silver and Curses was such a delight for me to read. I love characters that aren't afraid of a little murder and brutalization to protect nature and the ones they love. The adventure and world building was wonderful, I fell in love with both of the main characters, and the spice was fantastic. I am obsessed with Scythe, she is the coolest and has the most amazing and fun powers.

Scythe is the witch of the forest, 2 years ago her sister fell in love and left her. The same night her sister met her lover, Scythe met someone and had a night to remember with them, only for them to discover she's a witch, and for her to discover they're a wolf, and ended the night on bad terms, but never stopped thinking and lusting for each other. Now, Talon discovers that their sisters have left and left a note that raises concerns. Talon has no choice but to tell Scythe and work with her to find them.

(I received this as a arc)

The beginning of the book was a slow burn, definitely took me days to pick it back up and continue reading, but it gets better after about 70 pages in. The “they/them” pronouns or nonbinary terms at the beginning were a bit confusing when referring to Talon and I wasn’t sure if it was an error, but from continuous use I figured it was just the use of the pronouns.
The beginning was all about building the story and I wasn’t sure where the story was going but eventually when Scythe comes out of her woods the story starts to get interesting. This story was more an enemies to lovers and as it unravels there is more insight as to why both characters hate each other. It definitely was a good read and thank Victory Editing for providing an ARC copy to review! It’s 4 stars are deserving and recommend this book to readers!!

Wow, this is a very easy five-star rating from me.

I devoured this book. I actually read the prequel novella beforehand (which I highly recommend) so was very excited to dive into this and it does not disappoint.

I thoroughly enjoyed Maddox’s writing. Their pacing was perfect, the banter and humour had me laughing out loud, the style was the right balance of high fantasy with believable conversational quips and the spice was delicious.

I loved having TWO morally grey MCs and their matched bloodlust just made this even better. Scythe is a great FMC and don’t even get me started on Talon, they were just perfection and I’m a bit obsessed. Also excuse me, forced proximity, a masquerade ball and a rescue? Ya’ll are spoiling me!

I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Lingering Fates series but if it’s fae-focused, I’m gonna be one happy girlie.

Huge thank you to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and Maddox Grey for the digital ARC copy of this one in exchange for an honest review - I’ll forever be grateful for having this series introduced to me ❤️

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. (via Netgalley)

4.25 stars

This had so many things I enjoy (forced proximity, found family, morally grey). I loved Talon and Scythe together as things progressed, did an excellent job of "hating" being fated mates :P I also loved the LGBTQIA & non binary rep in this story. Add in some meddling gods for funsies?! ALSO THE CATS. I loved them. Admittedly the spice was a bit spicier than my usual preferences but overall, it was written so well that didn't even take me out of the story. Curious where the next one will go!

Of Silver and Curses by Maddox Grey
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 out of 5 stars)

This book surprised me in the best way.

Of Silver and Curses throws you right into a dark, magical world where witches and cursed werewolves are forced to work together, even though they’d much rather rip each other apart. And honestly? I was here for the tension, the grudges, and the pain-filled history between the two leads. Nothing about their relationship is neat or romanticized—it’s messy, bitter, and full of sharp edges. Loved that.

One thing I really appreciated: the main character is non-binary, and it’s just part of who they are. No big dramatic explanation, no clunky handling—it just is, and it’s done really well. That alone already gave this book points from me.

The worldbuilding was strong, the atmosphere hit that perfect mix of haunting and magical, and there were a few twists that actually caught me off guard (rare, honestly). I was invested, I cared about what was happening, and the emotional stakes felt real.

That said… I did feel like some things lacked depth. There were moments, especially with the characters’ past and their emotional baggage, that could’ve gone a bit deeper. Some scenes felt like they ended too soon or didn’t dig all the way into what was really there. And I wanted more. Not in a “bad writing” way—but more like, “you almost got me crying, go a little further next time.”

Final take?
A solid romantasy with bite, tension, and a world I’d gladly return to. If you like enemies (maybe lovers?), curses, fierce vibes, and broken characters trying to survive side-by-side, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

At first it seemed interesting but as I kept reading the plot wasn't keeping my interest. The plot seems to be rushed, and the conflict seemed to be rushed as well. I unfortunately had to dnf at chapter 5. I liked the back story of Scythe, but I got confused with the backstory of Talon. The inner monologue of the main characters was a bit cringey at times. I also found myself struggling to continue reading.

I was immediately sucked into this new fantasy world Maddox created and I simply did not want to leave! I loved these characters so damn much and highly recommend this as your next standalone fantasy read!

We are first introduced to our main characters, Talon and Scythe, in the prequel novella, Of Melodies and Maledictions. I highly recommend that you read this short novella first to have a better understanding of this world of witches, mages, and cursed werewolves. Plus, you’ll get a good introduction to the found family created, as well as why our beloved characters behave the way they do.

Talon and Scythe have the best sizzling chemistry. They are simply drawn to each other time and time again, and despite their best efforts to stay away, fate makes that an impossible feat. This story not only showcases the journey these two take to save their sisters, but find themselves and each other in the process. Self sacrifice was the name of the game, and they each proved time and time again the lengths they would go to keep those they lay claim to safe.

While this is a standalone, Maddox is creating such a rich new world and I cannot wait to see what comes next in this interconnected series and which couple will be featured.

First I want to start out by saying I am new to the Romantasy/Fantasy genre but I really enjoyed reading Scythe and Talon’s journey to save their sisters, build trust and their bond all while kicking ass and having amazing 🌶️ banter!

The author did an amazing job grabbing you from the beginning of the story where you are introduced to both Scythe, The Witch of the Woods, and Talon, a cursed werewolf. The story begins with a one night stand between the two that abruptly ends with the two despising each other. Who doesn’t love a good enemy to lovers trope?!

Scythe and Talon’s sisters are in love and end up getting kidnapped. Talon and Scythe have to go on a journey together killing anyone who stands in their way. During their travels the two are forced to share a single horse and a bed! You can probably guess what happens….and I can assure you, you won’t be disappointed.

Scythe and Talon are a force to be reckoned with and make a great pair. As much as I would love to provide more info about their pairing I don’t want to spoil your fun reading the story that Maddox has meticulously crafted and brought to life. Enjoy!

Thanks to Victoria Editing Co-Op for the chance to read thjs ARC! I look forward to reading more from Maddox Grey!

Favorite Quotes:

“The witch is perfection, and she’s mine.”

My thoughts:

Are you tired of the damsel in distress FMC who is always making stupid decisions? Then this book is for you. Scythe is a cunning, smart, and beautiful hunter with the instincts to go with it. The other MC is Talon who is nonbinary. They are a charming, whitty, sexy thief who will probably steal your heart if you’re anything like me. Of Silver and Curses mixes romance and spice with characters who take a big stance about social injustices. Overall, Of Silver and Curses is a political, sexy, steamy, queer, and thought provoking book! Definitely recommend!!

Cerelia aka Scythe, the last Witch of the Woods, has come to accept that she is better off alone after her sister Astria has run off with Ravyn, her human lover and sister to the bane of her existence—cursed werewolf, Talon. All she need is the forest and the creatures who inhabit it. Only Scythe cannot stop thinking about Talon, and their heated tryst a year and a half prior.

When Talon reappears with news that both of their sisters have disappeared, the pair must put aside their differences to save them before it's too late. Scythe and Talon can barely tolerate one another, but both soon learn there's a thin line between love and hate.

I absolutely fell in love with Talon and Cerelia in Melodies and Maledictions, and could not wait to dive into Of Silver and Curses to see how their story ended! The chemistry between these two was off the charts, and their banter was *chefs kiss*.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧:
- witch of the woods + NB cursed werewolf
- enemies to reluctant allies to lovers
- morally grey characters
- dual pov
- forced proximity

- so much banter
- found family
- fated mates (and not happy about it)

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me early access to this eARC.

4.25. This was an excellent paranormal fantasy romance. This book is about Scythe who is the last witch of the woods and Talon who is a cursed werewolf. Both of their sisters mysteriously disappeared from a travelling troupe. Talon sets off to find Scythe and they both go on an adventure to find their sisters.

First, this book takes place following a prequel novella that details how Scythe and Talon meet. This is not necessary to read prior as the main points are touched upon in this book. However, I do recommend you read because it was excellent and give great background as to their enemy status.

I thoroughly enjoyed both the adventure and the romance in this book. I enjoyed the unique aspect to Scythe’s magic and I have not read about a cursed werewolf before. It made for a very interesting read. From the very beginning, I was intrigued. I felt like the pacing was great and never became bored with the story.

I loved the romance in this book. Talon is the first nonbinary main character I have read and the author did an excellent job featuring them. This book is extremely spicy and it would be helpful to look up trigger warnings.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book. I loved it. And cannot wait to read more in this series and more by this author.
