I loved this book. This author is great. So many twists and turns.
Would recommend this author to anyone

I am an avid admirer of this author, and this installment not. It masterfully combines suspense humor, and unexpected twists. The Silva family running the pub, but someone is missing as Alex remains in. However, that changes Alex returns only for another family member, Deana, to be taken. Dante and Deana s activities have caught up with them. Alex must travel to his hometown in Portugal to piece everything together. Who can the family trust? Who the enemy? It is well-written, and I eagerly await the author’s next book

Turf Wars is a good and enjoyable gangland thriller. I've not read the previous books and will look to read them when I can. I think this book can be read on its own though. Alex Silva returns home from prison to find his daughter and son have been selling drugs on someone else's patch and as a result his daughter has been kidnapped. Who has taken her and who can Alex trust? He revisits his past for answers and to find her. The authors writing is good, the story flows well and is fast paced and the plot is all too believeable and realistic. I liked the story being told by different characters and their perspectives. It is not often I find a book with chapter headings and this I loved. Alex, Maggie and Mark and are so relateable I couldn't help but root for them and I absolutely loathed Luke and Johnny, who couldn't get their come uppance quick enough. I would have liked the story/plot to wow me a bit more or have me turning the pages wanting to know was was coming next. Saying this it is still a good read which I'd recommend. The ending is good which I think sets up the next book nicely for the Silvas and I'd probably want to read it.
3.5 stars

Former gangland member, Alex Silva, grassed on his former gang members, and went to prison for his part in their crimes, but he’s served his time, and upon being released his intention is to stay out of trouble.
He wants to live a normal life in his country pub, with his wife Maggie and teenage kids Deana and Dante. However, he hadn’t bargained for his kids getting mixed up in a whole load of trouble in his absence, and now Deana has been abducted!
Due to his kids actions, pitting their wits against local drug lords, there’s a turf war brewing, and Alex has no idea how they’re all going to get out of this mess.
Author, Gillian Godden, certainly knows how to write a terrific gangland/ family drama. Her characters come fully fleshed (though I doubt I’d want to meet most of them), but surprisingly, one of the Silva’s is actually kind and compassionate. Yes I know! “Turf War” is grim, gritty, and a definite page turner.

The Silva's are back, and his time it's war.
Alex is such a compelling person torn between his past and a future he may have trouble reaching if certain people had their way.And as his dragged back into a brutal turf war that threatens everything his built he'll do anything to keep his family safe and together.
Gillian Godden has delivered another raw,fast-paced read that grips from page one, gangland loyalty, and family ties are explored to the limits.
I'm looking forward to finding out what Alex does next-hopefully a new business partnership with a certain lady we've met in other books.
If you enjoy a gritty read that's impossible to put down this ones for you.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the Arc.

Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
Another brilliant book by this author
Page turner, gritty edge of your seat. Can’t wait to read more by this author

Yet another fantastic read from Gillian godden could not put this book down absolutely brilliant. Really hope the wait is not too long for the next book .

Alex is coming out of prison with all sorts of promises to himself and for himself. he has to go straight and think straight. he needs this to be a new start for him. but his arrival isn't met with the makings of a dream because his kids have a different set of stories to tell in their own behaviours. they've been making a fair bit of trouble for themselves and now it will impact what Alex does or wants to do next. because things dont seem within his choice anymore, not when now his own daughters very life is at risk. and he will put everything on the line to get her back.
but who can he trust now he is out?and who will come to his aid from sources unexpected?
i liked how we got to see this plot unfold and also how we see the workings of families and particularly parents when they are put under this immense pressure for their children.
i didn't read the book before this so i did feel i missed a few key parts to it. but i dont think it effected how much i enjoyed this book overall which was great.
i loved reading of how the bond of families works even in gangs and darker places this book takes us. loyalty is something people always want to rely on and think they have it in buckets. but we also know and see in this book that that also cant be the case.
some of the characters had some stand out personalities too which really liked every time we come across them. the dryness and wit to Gillian's characters get me every time.
the characters are messy and their ability to just go for it against all others is sometimes so wild and in this book so exciting to read about.
Gillian is really talented with her genre. it must be a hard balancing act sometimes to know how to get things done right so we care about the plot and characters without taking away from just how dark this kind of people we come across can be or live in. but that in itself make them all the more delicious to read about when done to their best. and Gillian always tells them to their best.
her back catalogue is exceptional and she has another one in this to add to that list.
ive tried not to give too much away on this review about the actual plot. because this one needs you to come across to it fresh so you get as tense, excited over each new part you hit. you want to know what Alex does next on your own to get into that page turning excitement and momentum that i got every time a new part was unravelled to me.

Another unbelievable sequel, loved the storyline and ideas, I really hope there will be another one in the series, quality AAA

Powerful reading.
Drug lords out smarted by their children. How do they come to accept maybe the children know best, or think they do.?
A lifestyle some thrive on , others it is their demise. Gritty writing.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book.

The Silva’s are back and we carry on with this hard hitting family/gangland drama
Alex the boss is out of prison as his daughter has been kidnapped, kidnapped because alongside her brother they have become drug dealers….and very successful…..so successful that people are not happy and the Silva’s are now in chaos
With the authors usual ease at storytelling the book takes us into this world and all its dark sides but also shows the compassion and family allegiances that bond together when in crisis
We meet some rum characters,Bernie being my favourite, what a woman not to cross and she speaks as she finds and was thrilled every time saw her appear, its not a weapon you need to worry about with Bernie but her acid tongue,a great character really well devised
An exciting real life story that shows many sides to the good and bad in the book and as always by this author is written to be read,I always enjoy Gillian Goddens books and this one is again brilliant at what it does

Excellent book loved every page of this book. As I have loved this series about the Silva Family along with their friends and family this series was very entertaining. Gillian Godden writes great gangland books and I look forward to her next.

I haven’t read the previous book, but from the beginning of this story, I can tell that it ended on a cliffhanger that this one now continues from. I'm curious to see what the author has in store for us...
During Alex’s time in prison, his children weren’t sitting idle. Although their intentions may have been good, they probably should have chosen a different way to make money. They've stepped on quite a few toes, and now the whole family has to face the consequences.
Alex’s goal was to start a new life, far from his past as a criminal, but due to this tragic event—of which his daughter has become the victim—he is forced to pull out all the stops to bring her back. This comes with considerable risks and dangers.
Will he be able to deal with those responsible and remove the sword of Damocles hanging over his family's heads?
Fortunately, he has friends he can rely on—but are they all trustworthy? Sometimes help comes from an unknown and unexpected source, and you have to seize those chances with both hands.
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, there are parts I really liked, but on the other, I had my doubts about certain actions. I often raised my eyebrows, finding it hard to accept how the parents behaved under these circumstances. Of course, everyone reacts differently to situations, but still…
For me, it could have been a bit more intense—after all, this is about a turf war...
I liked the idea behind the book, but the execution didn’t always feel believable to me. That’s why I’m giving it 4 stars.
Thank you

Compassionate leave from prison sees Alex Silva trying to straighten out the chaos caused by his two children Deana and Dante. Deana is kidnapped and Dante has murdered two drug dealers who were attempting to kill his friend Kev. Who can Alex trust, no-one is what they seem., but help comes from an unexpected source. Another fantastic book.
