Four characters tells their story and it all comes to a head at a party at the end of the day.
I love this author’s books! This one however took me sometime to get into. It’s a slow build that ended with a bang.

We may have had feel-like temps in the 100+ range this week, but it is snowing in Weirbridge, Scotland.

Four people give us their perspective on that ONE SNOWY DAY:

JESSIE MCLEAN - Her birthday party /going way party happens tonight. She should be spending the day pampering herself and preparing for a dream retirement in Tenerife with husband Stan. Why does she feel this sense of impending doom?
GEORGIE DERN - It's her mom's big day, but 38 year-old Georgie is at a crossroads of her own. She has more than one big decision weighing on her mind. What will her life be like after this day is through?
ALYSSA CANAVAN - Her Once Upon a Time Cafe' is the site of the big party. Bad news arrives early in the day and send her life into a tailspin. Who would she be if these changes were to move forward?
LACHLAN MORDEN - As a builder and London resident, he at first seems to be disconnected from our other characters. Just wait and let Shari Low work her storytelling magic.

At the beginning of each book, Shari Low gives us rundown of all the characters we will meet in her book. This seems intimidating at first -- I know I felt that way with my first book by the author. I compare it to a multi-course meal. As you approach the table, you see all the plates, glasses and utensils set up for the diners. As the meal is served, the enjoyment is enhanced by the table setting. In the same way, the characters serve as a structure for Shari Low to tell a story that brings the characters to life and makes them feel like friends.

If you have enjoyed other books by the author, familiar characters like Val Murray, Moira Chiles, and others are included. In her author's note, Shari gives us a rundown on who she has chosen to include from other books and where else we can read about them. I love seeing those connections and it reminds me that I have a few more books to read of hers.

This book is due to be released on August 3, 2025. Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

This book had all the cozy feels of winter.
Following the lives of four different characters with four different stories. There is love, laughter, loss and friendship. All the things combined make for an incredible story. This book captured me from start to finish, I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Thank you Netgalley.

This is a stand alone book but it does feature characters from the author's previous books. This is no issue to the main story contained herein but you might find it helpful to read her books in publication order to get the main backstories of some of the repeating characters in chronological order...
So, in this book we follow four main characters...
Jessie has retired from her hairdressing business and is about to jet off with her husband to start anew in the sun...
Georgie is about to take over the reigns at aforementioned hairdressers but there's a spanner in the works and she has just been offered her dream job. She can't do both...
Alyssa runs the village coffee shop but she has just received a letter from the solicitor acting on behalf of the family who is about to inherit the property from her landlord who has just died. It looks like she will lose the business she has spent years building up...
Lachlan is forced to come home. To return to the place he left after his world exploded, to an estranged brother who he hates with a passion, to hear his father's will.
And it's beginning to snow...
I think I have mentioned before that I discovered this author when I read the Hollywood Thriller series she co-wrote with Ross King, which are also really great reads if you get chance! Since then, I have been avidly pouncing on every new book she releases as well as working my way through her impressive back catalogue. I just love the way she creates the best characters and puts them in the most challenging situations and basically winds it all up and lets it go with delightful, and occasionally surprising, outcomes. As my main genres of choice tend to be on the heavy brutal crime side, it's refreshing to have found an author who produces lighter reads which are also substantial stories, chock full of every conceivable emotion. She really puts me through the ringer with what she puts her characters through, after making me connect with them so well, and, you know what, I love it!
I think I also have already mentioned that the only bad thing I can ever say about her books is having to leave the characters when the story ends. Luckily they do have a habit of popping up in other books so often the end really isn't the end and I get to catch up with them, see how they're doing, and I hope I do manage to reconnect with some of the "friends" I have made in this book too...
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

The “One” series are books I’m guaranteed to request because I know I’m going to enjoy it. They are usually mostly new characters but there are almost always some Easter egg characters from previous stories that pop up as well. And Shari is always good about putting in a cast of characters in the beginning of the book so you know who you’re dealing with going in or if you need a refresher during the story as there are loads of them!
This ONE is set in the beginning of December in the small Scottish town of Weirbridge where Jessie is about to celebrate her birthday/retirement/going away with a party but the weather has other plans….
If you’re in the mood for a feel good story with endearing characters in a small Scottish village you’re going to enjoy this one.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

One Snowy Day by Shari Low is a heart warming story set in a charming snowy village, perfect for a cosy winter read. Following four characters through secrets, dilemmas, and personal discoveries, it beautifully explores friendship and family with warmth and emotional depth.

The writing flows effortlessly, and I loved the subtle connections to previous books - though this works perfectly as a standalone. With relatable characters and a satisfying ending, it’s another lovely read from Shari Low. A solid 4 stars!

One Snowy Day was a story that had so many emotions in it, and I felt each one. The characters all have a part to play in the unfolding of the story. The author does a great job of making them all fit together and made the book one that will stay with me long after finishing this book.
Thank you NetGalley, Shari Low and Boldwood Books for the copy of One Snowy Day. This is my personal review.

A heartwarming story with a beautiful setting and great to get to know four different characters. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

This story takes place on one Wintery day in Weirbridge, Scotland, and is told from the point of view of four characters - Georgie who has been offered the chance of a lifetime in LA, Jessie who is retiring and moving abroad, Alyssa who has been given devastating news about her business, and Lachlan who has to return to Scotland to hear the reading of his father's will. The four stories interlink, but who will get the ending they want?

A beautiful story of family and friendship, full of dilemmas, secrets and discovery. It is very well written, the prose flows beautifully, and I really liked how characters from previous books appeared (it is a standalone novel however). Shari Low is a must read author for me, and I look forward to her next book.

I think this is a new author for me although I can’t believe that I haven’t read any of the previous books. A lovely cosy story told from multiple perspectives and set over a single day, I particularly loved the sense of community. Many dilemmas are faced by the characters and are realistic concerns of ordinary people. I enjoyed and recommend it. I’m off the research the back catalogue!

I found this to be a really lovely read, as it puts into focus the big decisions that people have to make through life, and whether it's best for you or best for others. It's all well and good having big dreams and plans for life, but in reality when decisions need to be made then there's lots of other factors to be taken into account!

It's all set on one day and involves a number of different POV's so you get a little glimpse into each persons' life and dilemmas that they face. They're all at different stages at life so there's so much going on for them to take in - be it a big move abroad, a change of career, a new stage in life - and these are things that we all face so it was good to see these characters facing up to different decisions and the shall i, shan't i debates we all have with ourselves!

I really liked all the characters as you get a chance to get into their heads as the story progresses and the setting was really relatable too. You get to see the best and worst of people, as in real life!, and it was one of those books that I just kept reading as I wanted to see how the choices would pan out - it's a book that was very difficult to put down once you pick it up, as I often find with this author!! highly recommended!

I never tire from reading about the characters who live or are connected to Glasgow and the village of Weirbridge. Although these books can be read as a standalone it is lovely to return to some major characters from previous books who now play a peripheral role.in follow up books.
The premise of ‘One Day’ in the characters lives is always entertaining and this time the main characters who have their own alternating chapters are Lachlan, Jessie, Georgie and Alyssa.
Yet again Shari Low invites us into their lives and we become invested in their stories of loss, hope, dissapointment, luck and thoughts for tomorrow.
A Shari Low book includes the reader in a warm circle of friends and family; and she does it so very well.

It is always a huge delight to start a novel by Shari Low, a hug in the pages and a return to characters that feel like part of your family.

In this novel we meet lots of familiar friends and the focus is on the stories of Jessie, Georgie, Lachlan and Alyssa.

Jessie is finally looking to retire but reticent to take the next steps, however a huge party Alyssa is holding at her cafe is just what is needed. The blow that the cafe is being sold has just landed in Alyssa’s hand when a stranger arrives, who she discovers is the new part owner of the building and Lachlan gets very short shrift. Finally Georgie is taking over at the salon, however a dream job in Hollywood has arrived in her inbox, one which she has no choice but to decline.

So much to love about this book and so many characters to discover or rediscover and get involved with. They are all written with love and affection and this shines out from this book and takes the reader on a journey with them, one that is over too soon when it finishes. Absolutely loved it and will be recommending this 💯.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

❄️Change is in the wintry air for this cast of characters!❄️

I believe I'm an early outlier for this one because if I had to describe my feeling as I read this in a single word it would be indifference. That could be due to my mood or the novel itself but to be quite honest I couldn't tell which it was.

The story takes place in a 24-hour period with each chapter representing a 2-hour block of time. There are perspectives galore and the back and forth felt jolting. I can read many PoV and not be bothered as long as it feels like a natural progression. Something about this just didn't mesh with me. The theme felt like it was change. A dream job, an inheritance with strings, a sunny retirement, and a landlord drama affecting the future of a beloved local business all come into play. The separate stories were fine, the connections felt weak more like an afterthought in some cases. The actual writing was smooth and this had a few moments I enjoyed but overall, it just felt rather blah to me.

❄️❄️Where will these characters find themselves standing after the snow melts?❄️❄️

I had a hard time staying engaged with the plot every time the perspective changed for whatever reason, but I do think some readers will love this. It is by no means a bad book. This could be a case of it being me.

I do encourage you to check out some of the glowing reviews this novel has if you're interested.

Thank you to Boldwood Books for providing an ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A stand alone story line but with recurring characters in Weirbridge. The story follows 4 main characters and for the most part pans out over one day. Truths have to be told about misadventures across the years and characters have to realign their homes and dreams. Perhaps more of a winter tale than a Christmas book. Enjoyable

Brilliant book. Very much sliding doors ish. I loved the female friendships, Georgie should be jetting to the USA but she is in her Mum Jessies hair salon doing Jessie and her friends hair in anticipation of her joint birthday, retirement and leaving party.
Will the families plan come to fruition or will the past come back to bite them.
Finding out is a great read. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange.

As it’s almost Christmas, it felt natural to return to Weirbridge and catch up with some of the beloved characters that we have met, along with some new ones. In the style that is synonymous with Shari’s writing, each chapter covers a couple of hours within the storyline, and the characters wait patiently for the next chapter, which will then allow them to continue with their story.
Four characters lead the charge in this book, taking turns for their stories to be told—Jessie McLean, Jessie’s Daughter, Georgie, Alyssa Canavan and Lachlan Morden. It’s almost impossible to rest between chapters as the story builds in such a way that you can’t help but keep turning the pages. In a nutshell, Jessie and her husband are about to retire to Tenerife, leaving Jessie’s salon in the capable hands of their daughter, Georgie. Georgie is grappling with the shame of having taken up with her ex out of convenience. Alyssa has received a letter giving her two months’ notice on her café lease. Lachlan has returned to the area for a single day and cannot wait to get back to London and away from the memories that haunt him of his life before his mother died.
The stage is set for one of the loveliest stories that I have recently read. The relationships between the characters were beautifully designed, and the architectural construction was a treat to observe as each character and their story were woven into the fabric of the book.
We have previously met Jessie, Georgie and Alyssa, but the introduction of Lachlan revealed another layer of this story that I couldn’t have imagined. The dynamic was perfect, and how Shari introduced the additional characters boasted all the skills of a plate spinner at the circus. The storytelling seemed effortless, but I can imagine that it was incredibly involved, with characters demanding to be mentioned.
I loved everything about this book, from the tight rein the author held on her characters to the unfolding stories that emerged. The whole book felt atmospheric, and I adored every page.

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Another fabulous book by Shari Low.

After retiring from the salon Jessie and her husband Stan are leaving their friends and family and moving abroad. Jessie’s daughter will be taking care of the salon that Jessie has loved to for years.

But, before all that happens, they and the residents of the village go through 24 hours, with snow set to fall they each experience ups and downs.

I loved everything that Shari wrote to cover everything that happened in those 24 hours, it was beautifully written.

The characters have appeared in previous books and it was lovely to catch up with them.

I highly recommend this book.
