This is the first book by Shari Low that I've read, despite the author having an extensive back catalogue. I'm pleased to say that it certainly won't be my last. I found the book to be pure escapism, filled with larger-than-life characters that you cared about. As the story progressed, I found myself completely invested in the lives of the tight-knit community and felt as if I were one of them.

Set over the space of one winter's day in the Scottish village of Weirbridge we meet Jessie McLean. Not only is it Jessie's sixty-fifth birthday, but she's about to start her retirement from her beloved hair salon and move to Tenerife with her husband. The village are all looking forward to the big party which will be held in the cafe that has become central to the local community.

Over the course of the day, we meet a wide range of characters, who all add elements to the storyline. I loved the larger-than-life characters, particularly the older generation, as they added fun and eccentricity to the story. As Jessie uncovers a couple of secrets that have been withheld from her, she begins to question the decisions she's made about giving up her job and jetting off to the sun. Other members of the community are dealing with dilemmas of their own, but are determined that nothing will spoil Jessie's big day.

I adored the way the story featured a wide range of ages and showed a strong sense of community. As individuals grappled with the predicament they found themselves in, we saw the age-old adage "A problem shared is a problem halved" at work. Shocks and surprises stopped being insurmountable as practical solutions are found, along with new friendships and relationships forged.

Another brilliant book by Shari Low. Her storytelling hooks you in and keeps you reading right to the very last page and wanting more! This is a stand alone story of Lachlan, who is grudgingly back in Glasgow on “one snowy day”for a meeting, he ends up taking a trip down his childhood memory lane, and meets the most brilliant characters with whom he becomes invested in. This book will make you laugh, cry and want to be part of the family involved in this story, There are also some returning characters, Val being one of my personal favourites who I can never get enough off. Val is a salt of the earth, kind and hilarious typical Glasgow woman, and I just love her wit, wisdom and unwavering friendship.
You will not be able to put this book down!

I received a free copy of, One Snowy Day, by Shari Low, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This story has a few different characters with their own drama. To move or not to move, change is coming whether they like it or not. There is nothing better than family a the holidays.

I love everything by Shari Low and this new book was no exception. Full of funny, fabulous characters…some familiar faces and some new ones too…with her usual blend of humour, friendship and romance. A feel good story which had me from page one and I just couldn’t put it down. Thanks again, Shari!

A lovely story of family and community. There are decisions to be made that will have serious repercussions!
Jessie McLean is having a triple party, it’s her birthday, retirement and her farewell party to family, friends and customers from the hair salon.
When Lachlan Morden arrives for the reading of his father’s will it throws up issues that he’d never have dreamed of. Nothing like wayward relatives to throw some excitement into things.
Owner of “Once upon A Time” cafe Alyssa Canavan receives an unexpected letter her world comes to a sudden halt, when she tries to remedy the problem the main person who can help is out of office for a few days. How will this pan out?

When I started reading I thought, who’s been speaking to my husband. So true to life. My favourite character was Jessie who was kind to others and had a backbone. Least favourite was Jason who lacked feelings for anyone other than the guy looking back at him from the mirror. The camaraderie between Val and Jessie was hilarious.. Didn’t see the reason for Lachlan’s heartache coming.
It has to be my favourite Shari book, so far.

I have never found a book by Shari Low that I have not loved, I am a massive fan. Her writing flows so well and it makes you fall in love with all the characters. I love how families and friends all tie up nicely into a great emotional narrative. The storylines are so imaginative but realistic. I love starting a new book by this author but very disappointed when I am nearing the end. I absolutely loved this novel and totally recommend it if you fancy a great read. Simply settle down with a cuppa and a pack of biscuits for extra comfort!!

Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy to read in exchange for my open and honest review. As always, my reviews will also be posted on Amazon, Goodreads and Waterstones and interaction on Facebook and instagram where possible.

I am a huge Shari Low fan and her latest release,‘One Snowy Day’ is dramatic and full of surprises!. I love her books because she writes characters we can relate to who also have strong family connections which help them through the difficult times in their lives. The settings of her books are in picturesque and unforgettable places that I could have only dreamt of visiting, and her touching stories allow me to escape into someone else’s life, if only for a little while.

Jessie is at a crossroads in her life and I can definitely understand how she feels about leaving everything she has known and loved forever, for a new beginning far away from her family. I could never do that, and as her day progressed, she knew that she had a big decision to make. She would miss her quaint town of Weirbridge and her beauty shop that she painstakingly decorated to reflect her eclectic style. Her daughter. Georgie, had worked side-by-side with her for many years, and would now take over the shop, but would she? Georgie had her own decision to make and with the help of her brother Grant, her daughter Kayleigh, and a handsome newcomer who crashed her mom’s going away party, she knew exactly where her path would lead her.

To think that so much could happen in one, short day is mind-boggling. The truth came out concerning secrets from a long time ago which added even more drama to this angst-filled day. This revelation would bring people together, who were just only good friends before. Family comes in all shapes and sizes and in the small town of Weirbridge, it doesn’t matter what happened in the past as long as the future looks bright, magical and full of love!!

What a heartwarming story this turned out to be! I always love reading books by Shari and catching up with some of my favourite characters; I often think I’d like to have them as my family, I’d have hit the jackpot then.
Well written, humerous, hopeful and just lovely. Highly recommend!

Shari Low never fails to please!
In One Snowy Day, we focus on the community in Weirbridge and meet the various characters....some old, some new......whose lives are interlinked.

Jessie is the matriarch who is ready for retirement and a new life abroad while her daughter Jessie is due to take over the reigns at her mother's hairdressing establishment. However, different opportunities present themselves and Jessie finds herself torn whilst her mother faces some difficult decisions.
Other characters like Alyssa have their part in the storyline and Shari brings it all together over the space of a day .

I love Shari Low's writing style and her characters.

Highly recommended.

“One Snowy Day” is a romance book by Shari Low. Calling the a romance book rather misses part of the story - as it’s about family and friendships and how they’re important. This book is technically a sequel, but it can be read as a stand-alone. There is a list of characters in the beginning of the book - which helped me somewhat, though I continued to get two characters hopelessly mixed up (my fault, not the author’s!). I found this book to be interesting - there’s family squabbles, there’s family teasing, there’s parents leaving, and juggling adult responsibilities - in other words, a lot happens in this little town and little book! Overall, this was a good read but it didn’t quite grip me as much as the previous book had, but it was still a fine read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (3.5 out of 5 stars)

One Snowy Day by Shari Low is a cozy, character-driven novel told over the course of one snowy day in Glasgow. The wintery cover drew me in right away. The story rotates between four characters: Jessie, a hairdresser getting ready to retire; her daughter Georgie, who’s expected to take over the salon but is unsure about her path; Alyssa, who runs the café across the street and receives upsetting news; and Lachlan, one of the inheritors of the café building.

The story unfolds gently, and as it goes on, we start to see how these four lives are more connected than they first appear. I didn’t connect strongly with every character—possibly because of my own current mindset—but I was especially drawn to Alyssa’s storyline. Her situation felt the most relatable and kept me interested. I also liked Lachlan, who reminded me of the kind of character you might find in an Elin Hilderbrand novel.

What I enjoyed most was how the twists and emotional shifts came closer to the end. The buildup made the later connections feel more satisfying.

A quiet, wintry read about small turning points, with a few surprises and thoughtful character moments.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC . This is my honest review.

A tale of generations and the love and care between them- or not sometimes! Jessie is about to set off with her husband to live his dream- to live in the sunshine. Jessie however isn't so sure. Her daughter Georgie who works in the salon with her has been offered the job of a lifetime in America however Jessie has left her the salon- a huge benefit for her long term. Alyssa runs the cafe opposite the salon but the property owner has just died and she gets a letter changing the terms of her contract. Lachlan is the caring brother to his sibling who doesn’t and unsurprisingly they don’t get on. When their fathers will is read out Lachlan isn’t surprised that his father put a condition in there to stop Jason being his usual self- greedy and selfish .Twenty four hours in the lives of four intertwined people. Can they sort things out to get what they really want?

I love Shari’s books, they are always a reflection on life. On taking opportunities and making the most of those around you- family is who you make it. Life, love, drama, risks. Shari is one author I don’t need to read the blurb for before reading- each and every one is a treasure and delight. Although a snowy title this really is about people rather than a Christmas/winter theme, it just happens to be set in December. A stunningly, brilliant, enjoyable read I devoured- in a heat wave! Loved it.

Shari Low is one of my favourite authors and I get so excited when there is a new book to read. This binge-worthy book did not disappoint, I just wished it was twice as long.

It can be read as a standalone but I’d recommend that you go back and read all the others- what a treat. So lovely to meet up again with some of the characters from previous books.

Don’t save it for later in the year, it’s a snowy theme but just as easy to read laying out in a sun lounger.

No one can write one day books like Shari Low can. Her latest offering is one of my must reads for Christmas 2025 as we follow Jessie, Lachlan, Georgia and Alyssa over the course of the day. If that opening paragraph doesn't pull you into another fabulous Shari books nothing will.

Thank you for the advance copy Boldwood and Netgalley.

I could not put this down-I had to stay up late to finish it!

Starting with Jessie who has dedicated her life to her husband, her kids and her beloved hairdressing salon. The time has come for her and her husband to make their long awaited move to Tenerife but Jessie is hesitant about everything she is leaving behind and all the niggles in her life she had chosen to overlook.
Her daughter Georgie has been going through her own issues, trying to decide whether to rekindle the flame with her ex after their marriage ended and being given the opportunity of a lifetime but she is left in an impossible position and wants to shield her family from the struggles she is facing.
Lachlan has lost his father and is forced to face the past he has been running from when he has to return for the will-reading,
Alyssa runs the cafe opposite Jessie's hair salon and is holding the leaving party but finds her whole livelihood under threat on the day that she is hoping to showcase what her business has to offer.

This is set over one day and brings all these different people together in a perfect storm of individual problems and hopes and dreams. Also-the twists kept on coming, there was one point I audibly gasped!
I was worried at first that I would not remember who everyone is but that was not an issue at all. I was invested in every character which is so unusual for a book with four lead characters.

It was a fantastic read which I wholeheartedly recommend.
