Fast paced, gripping and twisty. Rona has done it again with another great book.

Rona does it again another great thriller that will have you spinning on your head trying to work out what’s going on and who’s telling the truth. For Maddie the holiday to Croatia is much needed for her and her husband as they both need a break from the real world to reconnect and relax. When a chance meeting in a cafe sets off a chain of events that changes her life in ways she could not imagine. Two weeks house swap with strangers makes sense doesn’t it?? This is a great read with surprises at every corner. Don’t miss this!!!

I read a lot of thrillers, and I am always on the lookout for something to blow it out of the ballpark. This one unfortunately didn't do it for me. The characters frustrated me, and it was unrealistic.

This book was a rollercoaster of who is telling the truth and who is lying. A couple goes on vacation and meets a young woman interested in temporarily swapping lives/houses for a few weeks.. our main character is excited to try out nomad digital couple lifestyle and happily agreed to this swap with a stranger, however once her partner finds out who they have agreed to “swap houses” with, he’s realized they made a grave mistake.

Originally, this seem to be headed in the direction of the stereotypical crazy ex wife is out to get me plot. But it expanded into, my ex-wife and a man’s son I wronged are both teaming up against me because of what I’ve done to them in the past. It was all far fetched and not engaging. I sped read through the main climax to see how it would all resolve and was left less than satisfied. Overall I would not recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book! It was the perfect setting and story. Not too slow and not too fast. Suspenseful enough. Would recommend

When Tom and Maddie go on holiday to Croatia, they decide to give it a go working from home out there after Maddie makes friends with someone who says how easy it is to do. However, don't take everyone on face value. Rona's books are always full of suspense with do many twists and thos one didn't disappoint.

Another truly awesome gripping psychological thriller from this author Rona, she really does know her stuff and how to keep her readers engaged from the get go. Every time I pick up a book by Rona, I know that I am going to be in for a treat.

This story was brilliant written and had me sitting on the edge of my seat numerous times, in eager anticipation as to what would happen next, really was nail biting intense stuff.

The characters were great, but I did get annoyed by Maddie at times, as to how gullible and trusting she could be, but then if she wasn’t those things, this story wouldn’t exist. It does make you think though and to be really careful in real life, as to who to trust so as to not get into nasty situations like this.

So if you like a good gripping psychological thriller, then be sure to give this book a read, you’ll not regret it, well hopefully not anyhow.

A destination thriller set in beautiful Croatia. It is a decent beach read but I could not get invested in the characters or the story.

In Rona Halsall's new psychological thriller, The Getaway, a holiday dream turns rapidly into a waking nightmare. Maddie and her partner Tom are on a warm European holiday when they encounter a seemingly utopian couple who lead the "digital nomad" lifestyle. They are offered a seductive, and apparently innocuous, proposition: exchange homes for a fortnight to experience whether life overseas is for them.

The instant the keys to their London property are exchanged, the idyllic illusion breaks. Maddie and Tom rapidly learn their new friends aren't who they said they were, and what started as an thrilling adventure turns into a close and frightening game of cat and mouse. The Author skillfully constructs suspense, maintaining the reader in suspense as the couple's idyllic getaway turns into a desperate struggle for survival. With plenty of twists along the way, this is a rapid-fire, unputdownable novel that will leave you suspecting every character's motive right through to the end.

With a beautiful beachy cover, a title like The Getaway and a premise that hints at sun-soaked suspense in Croatia, I was fully expecting a twisty vacation thriller. Unfortunately, this one did not deliver. The book starts off with Maddie and her boyfriend Tom meeting a glamorous digital nomad couple while on holiday. They impulsively agree to a house swap, a la the movie The Holiday. The story has all the right ingredients: an exotic location, a young couple with secrets, and a main character looking for a change. But once the swap is put into place, somehow the story loses its momentum. The pacing was a major issue for me and I felt like the plot dragged. Meanwhile, the tension never quite landed. The characters felt underdeveloped and difficult to connect with. I wanted to root for Maddie, but her decisions were unrealistic to the point of frustration. I struggled to care about what happened to her or Tom. Moreover, this story lacked the sharp twists and clever reveals that I was expecting. The suspense felt shallow, and the “twists” were either obvious or just too over-the-top. The writing was simple, but The Getaway didn’t offer enough substance or originality to keep me engaged. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review, but unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me.

A seemingly perfect house-swap during a dreamy Croatia vacation spirals into a chilling nightmare. Maddie and Tom trade places with a digital-nomad couple, but Maddie soon discovers “Alex” is actually Tom’s dangerous ex, and trust goes out the window fast. Think sunny vibes crashing into secrets, lies, and relentless backstabbing. Page-turner vibes all the way.

I took this away with me as a 'holiday read', but oh my......it was so much more!
To review this properly I would end up giving spoilers, so let's just say....
Twists and Turns.
Kept me wanting to keep reading.
A much better experience than I had expected.

This was a wild, twisted trip! What started as a dream vacation, quickly took an unexpected turn toward the dark side. Things are not as they seem in this unpredictable and unputdownable thriller. I was on the edge of my seat as the story unfolded. The cliffhanger ending of each chapter kept the nail-biting momentum going. The plot is fast-paced and full of numerous twists and turns. I recommend this book to all thriller addicts. Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for the chance to read this book . I adored it everyone I’ve read one of Rona’s books I think it’s the best and then along comes another and it’s blown me away.
This book follows Maddie and Tom who are holidaying in Crete and decide to stay and work there they become digital nomads and that’s when the fun starts.
I did find Maddie a bit stupid at times with the decisions she made but still loved it . Another good thriller by Rona.

Lots of twists, quick read - perfect beach book. Maddie's willingness to jump in is not really believable, but go along for the ride. That said, I do love Rona Halsall books and would read any written by her.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC in return for my honest review. Another excellent book by Rona Halsall – gripping, full of twists and turns that kept me second-guessing right to the very end. Shocking, tense and thoroughly thrilling, though at times a little far-fetched, it was still a very enjoyable read.

This is how you do a fast-paced, tension-filled psychological thriller. Maddie and her long-term boyfriend Tom are enjoying a holiday in Croatia when Maddie meets Alex, a friendly woman living the digital nomad lifestyle Maddie has always dreamed of. Alex and her partner make an irresistible offer, swap homes for a couple of weeks to see if living abroad could work for Maddie and Tom.

At first it seems perfect, but as soon as the keys are exchanged, things begin to feel off. Details do not add up, unease creeps in and the dream escape starts to unravel.

What follows is a gripping spiral of secrets, twists and shocking revelations that rattle Maddie to the core.

I loved the pacing, the building sense of dread and the way each reveal was more jaw-dropping than the last. It is tense, addictive and the kind of book you cannot put down until you know the truth.
