Praying with the Saints is a treasure trove that introduces the reader to selected saints and their prayers. It's a wonderful resource for personal prayer and learning about the saints. Perfect for your personal library and would make an excellent gift.

Not quite what I expected. A little bit about the life of each saint and some traditional prayers with each. I had trouble connecting to the saints and prayers in a meaningful way. Not for me, but someone else may enjoy it.

Praying with the Saints an Inspired Collection of Holy Wisdom by Woodeene Koenig-Bricker is a meaningful collection of prayers from 100 different saints. Knowing there is a countless number of saints, I loved the inclusion criteria: she had to like the saint, and she had to like the prayer. I recognize that could present a limitation for me, the reader, as I may have a different opinion. In this case, I think she selected a beautiful collection. These are not biographies, these are prayers. Lots and lots of prayers. Some are short and some are long, but all are heartful reflections of the holy men and women who have gone before. I can read a biography about any one of these men and women and learn about their life and circumstances, but reading their prayers allows me to glimpse their heart. That is powerful. I love the variety and recommend this to those who appreciate gleaning insights on those who have shared their hearts with others.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley, and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

4.5/5⭐️

A beautifully curated collection that gathers the wisdom and prayers of the saints in a way that feels both timeless and deeply relevant. Each page invites the reader into a richer experience of God’s presence, offering words that encourage, comfort, and inspire. The short introductions to each saint, combined with their prayers, not only deepen the reader’s understanding but also spark a desire to learn more about these remarkable lives beyond the book itself. Uplifting and full of grace, it is a wonderful companion for personal devotion, reflection, and daily encouragement.

From Saint Agnes of Rome, to Saint Faustina Kowalska, and to even Saint John Paul II, this saint book has it all!

With information on 100 saints, this “collection of holy wisdom” is very well put together. A biography is provided for each saint. It is obvious that a lot of research went into this endeavor, because their backgrounds are presented in a new and fresh manner. In addition to the biographies, prayers for each particular saint are also included.

Make a daily practice of discovering one saint a day, walking along the path of life with them. Not only will you gain additional knowledge of the saints with this commitment, but you will also strengthen your relationship with God. This saint book is well-written, and a must-read for all saint lovers.

Thank you for this ARC.
This collection is wonderful. All the Saints are listed in alphabetical order. Do read the introduction. However you were raised, in any part of this world, if you believe in God and prayer, this book is for you. Also do share this book with your community. A collection of saints. Small details of their path and little anecdotes of prayers from each one. Truly heartfelt. Enjoy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ave Maria Press for an eARC in exchange for an honest review

I've read various books this year that have taught me more about the history of the church and some traditional practises, and I found this little collection of Saints' prayers to be the perfect companion. Alongside some beautiful prayers for all kinds of situations, I loved the introductions to each saint that helped me (a non-catholic) understand the context of when and how each of these holy people lived and died.

While Praying with the Saints is a commendable and accessible resource, there are a few aspects worth noting.
Firstly, the selection of saints feels somewhat random at times, seemingly aimed at including figures from diverse continents, which unfortunately results in the exclusion of some major names from Christian tradition. This effort at broad representation, though well-intentioned, can feel forced.
Secondly, there's a factual error in the section about Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. The book states that he was canonized during the Jubilee of Youth, but this is incorrect - his canonization was postponed due to the death of Pope Francis and the election of Pope Leo XIV.
Additionally, the biographies are written in a conversational, almost spoken style, as if someone were addressing the reader directly. While this may appeal to some, it can also detract from the reading experience for others who prefer a more formal or reflective tone.
That said, the book is quite comprehensive, and the format in which the prayers are presented allows readers to easily find a prayer suited to their present moment or need - a feature I particularly appreciated.
Overall, I believe this book will appeal more to the general public than to those with extensive theological background, but that’s part of its strength. Its accessibility makes it a valuable devotional companion for everyday readers seeking spiritual inspiration.
