Another stunning addition to the Eddie Flynn series. I couldn’t put this down. I just love Steve Cavanagh’s writing and wonderful characters - I felt as though they all came alive in a movie in my head as I read this!

Another Eddie Flynn, and another good run of it. I think detective/lawyer/heroes, etc. work well in series because the author gets time to build credibility over time for the protagonist and their side-kicks. Thus here, when Eddie Flynn pulls off a stunt or his friend, Harry has an eureka moment, they do not feel off the chart.

The plot is good; Elly Parker, a viral Tiktoker is charged for double murder—of her husband and best friend, who were caught having an affair on camera, live! On the other hand, Eddie Flynn's estranged family is at dagger's end with a rogue guy, and Eddie and his colleagues find themselves in the middle of it. The Elly Parker case and the ex-wife situation run parallel in the book, keeping readers engaged. The court rooms dramas were good, though Steve Cavanagh has given better court room dramas in some earlier Eddie Flynn's.

Overall a good read. I took some time to reach the last page, but am in sort of a reading slump and that I still enjoyed it, is indicative that in my regular reading phase, this would have been a page turner for me.

P.S. Eddie Flynn is a con man turner lawyer.

My thanks to Net Galley and publisher for a copy of this novel; the opinions expressed here are unbiased and a true reflection of my reading experience.

Such a clever book with an ingenious plot! Mr Cavanagh and Eddie Flynn never disappoint. When Eddie is called on to defend a TiK Tokker accused of murdering her husband and best friend who were having an affair, Eddie and the team have their work cut out. Convinced she is innocent but framed by a mysterious and incredibly dangerous stranger it is very difficult prove Ellie’s innocence. When the stranger targets Eddie’s family too the odds are really stacked against him.
It was great to catch up with all the regulars in the Eddie Flynn series and I was so caught up in the story, I just couldn’t put it down which was handy as I was about to take a transatlantic flight!
I don’t know how the author thinks up such intricate plots- I really didn’t know what was going to happen next and the ending….well suffice it to say I didn’t see it coming.
I love the Eddie Flynn books and have been a fan since the very first one. If you haven’t read them you have a real treat in store. They are all amazing and I would go as far as to say that “Two Kinds of Stranger “ is the best yet.
It has everything including a very clever and unpleasant serial killer and more than one innocent person framed for murders they didn’t commit. As ever I loved the way Eddie used his previous career as “con man” to aid the defence of his clients.
Well done Steve Cavanagh - I can’t wait for the next one in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.

This is such a great series, Eddie Flynn is never quite on the right side of the law but still very likeable. This was a bit different as the majority of the book took place outside of the courtroom, despite there being two cases on at the same time. There's always lots of twists and turns and you never see the coming, loved the ending!

I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to read this ARC, I'm a huge fan and love the Eddie Flynn Series. This installment was as thrilling as ever, with a few twists to keep you on your toes.

The storyline was fantastic, and kept me drawn in to the story, always wanting to know what would happen next. Eddie, as always, is my favourite character. He tiptoes the line between legal and illegal as he tries to help his clients in any way he can.

I loved that this novel contained the tiktok storyline, and how relatable that is to most people who use social medial and follow influencers online.

Overall another brilliantly written, clever book, a must read in my opinion.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was looking forward to this latest Eddie Flynn story by Steve Cavanagh and wasn't disappointed. Storyline based on Ellie a social media influencer, who is framed for the murder of her husband and best friend, is excellent. Definitely a good read recommendation.

I’ve been hooked on Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn legal thrillers ever since the beginning, and now, at 9 books into the series, they still keep getting better!

Two Kinds of Stranger is classic Cavanagh: razor-sharp courtroom scenes, whip-crack pacing, and a plot that twists so much it left my neck sore. In this book, though, there’s also a dark and emotional undercurrent that lingers well beyond the final page. While Eddie works hard to keep his tricks legal, he treads a very fine line, and not everyone in the team is as comfortable with his methods as he is.

Eddie Flynn, a former con artist turned trial lawyer who only takes clients he believes to be innocent, is in top form. He’s smart, resourceful, and relentlessly motivated, especially when a predator is hunting a vulnerable woman – and Ellie Parker is at her most vulnerable. I loved seeing Eddie using his considerable wiles to defend her, especially when the case turns personal, threatening those he holds closest.

What makes Eddie so compelling isn’t just his brilliance in court or his knack for deception — it’s his fierce loyalty to his team. Kate is his moral compass, a razor-sharp lawyer who is his right hand at trial. She has a cool head and strong determination. Bloch brings the muscle, but there’s a warm humanity beneath the brawn that’s been deepening across the series. Lake, a quiet operator, proves invaluable with his command of all things tech. Harry, a former judge, is wise and a voice of reason when things start to go off kilter. Watching them all in action feels like stepping into a perfectly tuned legal war room.

But Two Kinds of Stranger is Ellie Parker’s story. She’s a fascinating character — a woman who curated an online public persona of goodness and generosity, only to be savagely betrayed and dragged into a web of manipulation so twisted it is genius. The antagonist here is perhaps Cavanagh’s most chilling yet: an intelligent, calculated mind that views people not as human beings, but as pawns in a sick game. The interactions with Ellie are so tense; Cavanagh brings us psychological warfare at its most vicious.

The plot is a masterclass in tension — it starts tight and Cavanagh only tightens the screw, escalating from a betrayal portrayed online to thousands, to deadly real-world consequences in a series of twists that kept me compulsively turning the pages. Cavanagh knows exactly when to open the throttle and when to ease off before rapidly hitting you again.

Verdict: Two Kinds of Stranger is Steve Cavanagh at his best — shocking, smart, thrilling, and impossible to put down. Two Kinds of Stranger is a rollercoaster you won’t want to miss.

A brilliant action packed thriller and courtroom drama that I absolutely loved reading. I couldn’t put this book down. I was completely hooked from start to finish. @stevecavanagh never disappoints. I just love Eddie Flynn and his team. This book is definitely the best in the series so far.
It’s fast paced, gripping, cleverly written with multiple POV’s and two storylines that add to the suspense. So many twists keep you guessing right till the end. It’s captivating and intriguing with characters that are strong and engaging, well written and they kept me totally entertained. I particularly loved the character of Logan. Just brilliantly drawn. You just fall completely into to story and can’t let go. I loved the short chapters, keeps the tension alive.
I definitely recommend this book if you enjoy thrillers and courtroom drama. It’s well worth the read. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

There are many things that I forget these days, but the one that I get reminded of once a year is that I’ve not read the first three Eddie Flynn thrillers. The reason that this bothers me is that the Eddie Flynn series is one of my favourite set of thrillers and I haven’t read all of them. I’ve read them all since Thirteen, and while I’ve enjoyed them all, this one is one of the best of the lot.

There’s two reasons – first of all the characters. They’ve all developed over the course of the series and each gets there own little ongoing subplot that never gets in the way of the main narrative but enhances the quiet parts. There’s also the non-series characters, most notably here being the character of Logan who we know from the start is the killer. He’s no two dimensional serial killer though, and the insights we see into how and why he operates, including what made him into who he is, add a whole extra layer to the story.

The second reason is that the plot never stops moving. With some thrillers, you can see where they’re going but Cavanagh is on top-form here with twists and turns and genuine surprises. The method that Eddie uses to win his cases is usually the big reveal, but here there’s loads more things that caught me out. Some thrillers leave their surprises to the end, but here, it’s like there’s one every chapter.

An absolutely first-rate page-turner of a thriller. One of the best of the series.

‘Two Kinds Of Stranger’ by Steve Cavanagh is the ninth novel in the Eddie Flynn series, which follows conman-turned-lawyer Eddie and his close-knit band of righteous attorneys as they defend only the most innocent and cornered clients. This instalment manages to feel fresh by focusing on TikToker Elly, whose social media fame buoyed by random acts of kindness turns to notoriety after a terrifying encounter and its chilling ramifications.

Particular highlights of this book for me were the fast-paced switching between interconnected storylines, including one with Eddie’s family in peril, and the continued buddy-cop-esque banter between Bloch and Lake. The courtroom scenes were compelling and genius as always, and this time presented a moral dilemma for Kate which may have ripple effects into the future… Elly was also a likeable, fierce and intriguing lead whose plight made the novel totally unputdownable!

I hold this series in very high regard, having never gone below four starts for a Steve Cavanagh novel, but I must admit that the last two books weren’t my favourites… This one however is a return to five starts form in my opinion! While its most rewarding to read as part of the full collection due to the depth of relationships between Eddie, Harry, Kate and Denise that build over time, this could absolutely also be enjoyed as a standalone and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I received an advance Digital Review Copy of this book from the publisher Headline via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Eddie Flynn is back and this time, it’s more personal than ever. Two Kinds of Stranger delivers everything you want from Steve Cavanagh - sharp twists, breakneck pacing and a complex case to test the team. Emotional, clever and impossible to put down. One of the best in the series!

“When the world is hell, any act of kindness, no matter how small, helps put out some of those fires.”

Two Kinds Of Stranger is the 9th Flynn novel and follows Elly, an internet celebrity - famed for her random acts of kindness. Even at her lowest, Elly will always help someone in need, which makes her the perfect target for a sadistic game. Because as she soon learns, you can never trust a stranger - and when a seemingly random encounter plunges her into a living nightmare, the only person she can turn to is Eddie Flynn. With the most cruelly ingenious mind manipulating events from the shadows, everyone is in danger - including Eddie and his family.

Nothing quite beats the pure elation I feel whilst reading an Eddie Flynn novel, and Two Kinds Of Stranger might be Steve Cavanagh’s best yet. Told over five parts from shifting perspectives, this book is the definition of adrenaline, wit and suspense. Eddie is one of my favourite characters - relentlessly loyal, sharp and sagacious, whilst Elly is fascinating, fierce yet flawed. Then of course I loved the return of Bloch, Kate, Lake, Harry and Denise with their formidable attitudes, ferocity, devotion, determination and hearts. As for the antagonist, I’ll keep the details spoiler-free, but suffice it to say: Steve Cavanagh evidently knows how to bring a chilling character to life.

The pacing of Two Kinds Of Stranger is unabated from start to finish. Steve Cavanagh’s writing throughout is ingenious - tense, twisty and complex whilst remaining explicit in the direction of the narrative. Then that ending?! You come to expect that the characters have a trick or two up their sleeve, but I still did not see that coming.

Finishing another Eddie Flynn novel for me is always a bittersweet experience - you’re left stunned and exhilarated, yet already counting down the days (patiently) for the next one.

Thank you so much to Headline for sending me this advanced copy to read and review. My opinions are my own.

Amazing , I could not put this down. The twists and turns of the two court cases kept me guessing the outcome and the final twist at the end was mind blowing. I had not imagined that.!

Look forward to reading more of Eddie Flynns cases.

I’ve been looking forward to this book since it was announced and I was not disappointed. Two kinds of stranger has really raised the bar with one of the most sinister characters we’ve experienced so far, and the twist at the end was SO unexpected!! With the social media being so prominent these days, Ellie’s story felt so real (which was scary enough) but with everything else happening alongside it, Eddie really had to pull out all the tricks, and more. I’m hoping we get to see Kate again as she’s become one of my favourite characters, but also I’m now wondering if anyone else will return in future books…

Another great book in the Eddie Flynn series.

This book is full of the suspense and drama which we have come to know from this series. It picks up on another case undertaken by Eddie and his team which quickly sets the scene in the first chapter and leads you forward into another legal suspense thriller. It details the life story of a social media influencer who has her life turned upside down when accused of murder.

I enjoy all of these books written by Steve Cavanagh this is no exception. Would recommend reading this book as a stand alone or as part of the series. Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

Just brilliant!!

When I requested an ARC of this book, I have never been more hopeful of being selected! It took a bit longer than usual to be selected and when I got word to say I had been selected, I was ecstatic, literally and I simply couldn’t wait to start it. I actually contemplated suspending the book I was reading so that I could immediately start this book, but that’s against my nature so I made myself tantalisingly wait!! So I’m starting this review with my thanks to Steve Cavanagh, the publishers and NetGalley for this ARC. You have made my month!!

If you haven’t read any of these books yet, I would say only this - ‘Do it’ and ‘Do it now!’ If you like a well written thriller, with great characters, a bit of courtroom drama (and a little bit of poetic licence), you are going to love this series!! You can read this as a standalone or you give yourself the treat of the year and start from book 1 and work your way through, each and every one is AMAZING! And somehow they just get better and better!

You don’t need me to give you the story, that’s given to you on the blurb on the back of the book or in the introduction online and it’s written by better writers than me. What you want from me is to know that you will not regret purchasing this book.

Many books are sold as ‘page-turning’ and some are, but, for me, none more than an Eddy Flynn book. Eddy is such a likeable character, as are his sidekicks, Harry, Kate, Lake, and Bloch. They are all flawed, (except maybe Kate) as we all are, maybe not quite to the degree they are but nonetheless, I love them all. This was a two plot book, although the two plots were somewhat linked and both stories were thrilling, scary and twisty and the final twist at the end, left me with a huge smile on my face…………….genius!

Steve Cavanagh, you are that genius, you and your team, and I cannot praise you all highly enough. Now, get on with the next one!! I can’t wait for it!! One question, why are these not made into films or TV series?

I enjoyed the book but I didn’t realise it was a 9 book series

Blurb

Ellie Parker had everything.
Perfect husband. Perfect apartment. Perfect friends and the perfect job.
As an internet celebrity - famed for her random acts of kindness - everyone knew it.
So when a betrayal causes her to lose it all, millions of people are watching.

But even at her lowest, Ellie will always help someone in need.
Which makes her the perfect target for a sadistic game.
Because as she soon learns, you can never trust a stranger - and a seemingly random encounter plunges her into a nightmare worse than she ever imagined.

The only person she can turn to is conman turned trial lawyer Eddie Flynn, who must take on a case where nothing is what it seems. With the most cruelly ingenious mind manipulating events from the shadows, everyone is in danger - including Eddie and his family.

Steve has done it again!!! It was probably my favourite Eddie Flynn book since Th1rt3en, which was the first one I read of this series. All the characters are so well constructed... then the plot just keeps on moving, not in a convoluted too twisty way, but in a "surprise you didn't see that one coming" way. I cannot recommend this book and (Steve's works really) enough... go read it!
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.
