The new Eddie Flynn book is, as you would expect if you've read the others in the series, a gripping read from start to finish. This time round, Eddie has to try to solve the confusing case of a social media influencer accused of murder whilst also supporting his ex-wife who is in the midst of her own drama. Are the cases separate or connected and can Eddie and team save everyone in time? The supporting characters are all present and they add an extra layer to the narrative which makes these books feel like you're returning to a dysfunctional but loving family.

This is less courtroom drama than many of the other books in the series - it's exactly 75% in when we start the key trial(s). Whether that appeals more or less to readers of the series will depend on your personal mileage.
The book starts with a social media influencer barely escaping with her life in a good Samaritan situation evocative of Ted Bundy or Silence of the Lambs. When she's then accused of murder it's up to Eddie Flynn and team to clear her. At the same time, Flynn's ex-wife and daughter are under threat from actions of her new husband which have made a vengeful man very angry.
I enjoyed this book, but it felt more in the vein of a James Patterson or Jeffrey Deaver novel than some of the other books in the series. There are a lot of chapters from the genius antagonist (who can plan, anticipate every variable and know how the authorities will react) 's point of view which reminded me a lot of the style of the previously mentioned authors: whether you take this as a positive or negative will, again depend on your taste.
It was a fast read - like all the books in the series you are enticed into 'just one more chapter', and I'm sure fans of the series and the author will enjoy it very much.

There is nothing better than an Eddie Flynn book to curl up and read. It combines court and police work and has a Robin Hood feel to it. Eddie, Harry Bloch lake and Kate will do anything to protect their client.

In this book Eddies family are also under attack and need his help

Both cases running at the same time how can Eddie ensure he does the best by his client but also protect his own family.

This book is fast paced. Heart warming in places and will just keep you up reading.

Now the long wait for the next in the Eddie Flynn series

I love an Eddie Flynn book and Two Kinds of Strangers didn’t disappoint—it had all the smart legal drama, tension, and sharp dialogue I’ve come to expect from the series. Steve Cavanagh knows how to craft a propulsive plot, and this one felt particularly fresh with its commentary on internet fame and how easily strangers can infiltrate our lives.

This time around, the story centres on Ellie Parker—a social media star known for her viral acts of kindness and seemingly perfect life. But when a brutal betrayal sends everything crashing down around her, Ellie’s vulnerability makes her the perfect target for a twisted, manipulative game. The way her life unravels is both chilling and compelling, and it pulled me in from the very first page.

Enter Eddie Flynn—our favourite conman-turned-lawyer, who finds himself at the centre of Ellie’s nightmare. What starts as a case full of unknowns quickly spirals into something far more sinister, with an unseen villain pulling strings from the shadows. I loved how layered this plot was—there’s a real sense of danger and psychological tension throughout, and it kept me guessing the entire time.

While it might not be my absolute favourite in the series, it’s definitely up there. The pacing is spot on, the courtroom scenes are razor-sharp, and Eddie remains one of the most compelling protagonists in legal thrillers. I also appreciated the emotional stakes in this one—especially with Eddie’s family getting pulled into the chaos. It gave the story a bit more weight and urgency.

Overall, a strong and addictive addition to the Eddie Flynn series. If you’re a fan of twisty thrillers with heart, justice, and a whole lot of clever plotting, this one’s a must-read.

At first I was thinking Steve Cavanagh had gone all soft on us with a pretty little story about a tiktok star, but then things really began to heat up! More murders than you can keep up with, two trials at the same time, honestly and kindness versus unbridled evil. This was a brilliant instalment in the Eddie Flynn series. Thank you to Netgalley for the advance reader copy.

I always look forward to the new Eddie Flynn novel. He is a lawyer who used to be a con man and pretty much still is. The story begins with him getting the better of a dodgy lawyer in a sneaky way. There are two main cases in the book. One is the man who is threatening his ex-wife’s family and child; the other is the arrest of an influencer called Elly. We know for certain that she is innocent because we also follow the viewpoint of the guilty party. There was a bit too much of Logan for me and not enough court case. This isn’t my favourite in the series but still very enjoyable, I wasn’t sure the very end was necessary. Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC.

Two Kinds of Stranger is another brilliant thriller staring the wonderful Eddie Flynn, with a cast of great well developed characters and a storyline that jumps off the page this is a riveting read.
Two cases are at hand here, one where Eddie’s family are threatened and another case where a popular internet influencer is accused of murder. For both cases the evidence is stacked against them and Eddie has a seemingly uphill struggle to plan a full defence and prove the innocence for his ex wife and husband and other client.
With twists, turns and brilliant courtroom drama this is an outstanding read, and the ending……absolutely outstanding and perfect. Thank you Mr Cavanagh another 5* read.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

Eddie Flynn returns in Steve Cavangh’s Two Kinds of Stranger which is yet another very engaging and twisty thriller in this highly enjoyable series.

The story is told from multiple points of view but this author is one who uses that to his advantage to keep the story moving along at pace and is also down to the excellent characterisation.

You can probably tell that I am a fan of this series and the latest book is definitely recommended.

I love this Eddie Flynn series and book 9 of 9 is an explosive instalment. Eddie is a conman turned lawyer and his old life strangely tends to compliment his new profession.

There are two big cases in this book running parallel with each other 1) Eddie’s ex-wife, partner and daughter are being stalked and targeted which of course becomes personal and dangerous for Eddie 2) an internet celebrity who is famous for her random acts of kindness is betrayed publicly by her husband and best friend. Despite her heartbreak and while at her lowest she still finds herself able to complete another act of kindness for a stranger which proves deadly. A fast paced page turner, with characters you will love to hate and regulars you continue to adore. High suspense courtroom drama with a great twist at the end. One of the best in the series 🧡🖤 @sscav

Thank you to Headline and NetGalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was crazy good, oh my goodness. What initially drew me in was the title and the blurb, and I’m so glad I requested this. I don’t think I’ve ever read a thriller quite like it before.

The story is told through multiple narratives from different characters. At first, I found that a little confusing, but it ended up working really well with how the plot unfolded. It’s quite a complex story, with two separate cases being investigated that slowly begin to intertwine. It was so gripping. I found myself holding my breath, unable to put it down, desperate to know what twist was coming next and how everything would play out.

One thing I especially appreciated was that one of the points of view was from the antagonist. It was genuinely entertaining to see how their mind worked and to get such a clear understanding of them as a character. The twists were brilliant and completely unexpected. While the beginning was a little slow, and I did wonder how everything would come together, I was satisfied with how it all played out. The ending especially took me by surprise in the best way.

This was my first Steve Cavanagh book, and I didn’t realise it’s part of a series following the lawyer Eddie Flynn. That said, I thought it worked well as an interconnected standalone. I’ll definitely be picking up more from the series in the future!

I do love an Eddie Flynn story. This one he didn't seem to be as much I the fore front as usual but I liked the story and the sub-story.

With many thanks to Netgalley for this free arc and I am leaving this unbiased review voluntarily
Eddie Flynn is definitely one of my top best characters in a book and I have yet to give Steve Cavanagh anything less than five stars. This one will be no different as straight from the off you are devouring every single word and chapter. It is a very clever plot with a brilliant ending. Some gasp out loud twists and the author keeps the suspense and tension ramped up high. Multi layered with not one but two court cases which are always the best part of this series of books- Steve Cavanagh is a master craftsmen of a court room drama. Superbly written and as always Eddie Flynn is just phenomenal. A flawless five star read

Two Kinds of Strangers is everything you’d want from a thriller - fast, exciting, and full of twists that actually surprise you.

Elly Parker is a social media influencer known for her daily good deeds, who helps a stranger on the subway and ends up in hospital. She wakes to find her husband and best friend murdered, and what’s worse? She’s the main suspect.
Enter Eddie Flynn, ex-conman turned lawyer, who’s juggling both Elly’s case while trying to protect his family from a dangerous threat. Two court cases, non-stop tension, and just enough bending of the law to keep things deliciously messy.

Cavanagh absolutely nails the pacing, the dialogue, and the twists. While you don’t have to have read the other books in the series, you’ll probably want to after this.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book.

TWO KINDS OF STRANGER is a ‘Master of Misdirection".

A gripping courtroom drama and psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Steve’s masterful storytelling weaves a complex web of twists and turns.

With a keen understanding of human psychology, the author crafts a villain that takes you on a thought-provoking exploration of truth, deception, and the blurred lines between the two.

The characters are richly drawn and with razor-sharp wit. I enjoyed Eddie and the team’s clever manipulations and the opposing counsel's dogged determination making for a compelling showdown.

As the trial unfolds, the tension builds to a stunning climax that will keep you guessing until the very end. TWO KINDS OF STRANGER is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers and courtroom dramas, and a testament to the author's skill at crafting a story that's both entertaining and intellectually stimulating. With its unpredictable plot and memorable characters, this book will linger in your mind long after you finish reading it.

I was delighted to get this eARC as Steve Cavanagh is one of my favourite authors. This book certainly did not disappoint either! Never mind twists and turns its tricks and cons for the Eddie Flynn series and there was plenty in this book. I have still some earlier books in the series to read but, in my opinion, you can enjoy this series out of the publication order (as I have done). Each book makes me love Eddie Flynn’s, lawyer and conman, personality more. The killers are always so horrible and so well written and this book was just a dark delight! I look forward to reading the rest of this fantastic series.

Eddie Flynn is back with a bang and as chaotic as ever. Social media influencer Elly, discovers her husband and maid of honour in bed together, whilst streaming a live video on TikTok. Just when she’s starting to pick herself back up, Logan comes into her life and the next minute she’s being arrested for a double homicide.

This book was exceptionally written from start to finish and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was instantly hooked from the minute I started reading it and every moment I spent not reading it I was desperate to pick it back up. Right until the last page I was constantly desperate to read on, and I personally felt that no questions were left unanswered. Steve Cavanagh has a way of investing you in the book to an extent where you actually feel like you’re experiencing the plot - my heart ached for Elly and throughout the whole book I hoped with every part of me that justice would be served.

This was another excellent instalment in the Eddie Flynn series which I was desperate to read as soon as I saw it due for release, and it certainly did not disappoint. A definite 5 star read from me, I would highly recommend! Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.
