It has been quite a while since I read a Steve Cavanagh novel and I forgot just how good they were. With the tag line ‘She helped a perfect stranger. She didn’t know he was a killer’, I knew I was in for a fast paced thriller. Ellie Parker had everything, the perfect husband, apartment and life. She is famous for carrying out random acts of kindness and posting them to her social media account. However millions of people are watching when she uncovers the ultimate betrayal and loses it all. Even at rock bottom, she is still compelled to help people, but quickly realises you should never trust a stranger as quickly her whole world is turned upside down. A brilliant thriller that will have you hooked to the end with some great twists thrown in for good measure. Thank you to NetGalley, Headline and the author for the chance to review.

Two Kinds of Stranger by Steve Cavanagh is the latest in the very successful Eddie Flynn series and of course it did not disappoint. This series of legal thrillers consistently entertains with a blend of fast paced action and clever plot twists. not to mention the roguish charm of conman turned lawyer Eddie Flynn, a man who is definitely willing to cross a line or two in the pursuit of justice.
The central plot of the book focuses on Ellie Parker, an influencer who has built her brand on random acts of kindness and was hugely successful until the day she walked in on her husband having sex with her best friend. Since then she has gone to ground but her kind nature has not gone away and when she helps the wrong stranger she finds herself in a world of trouble, including being arrested for the murder of her husband and friend. Desperate to prove her innocence she turns to Eddie, but he is having troubles of his own, including threats to his ex wife and their daughter. Meanwhile the mastermind behind setting Ellie up is less than thrilled to have Eddie on his trail and so in the spirit of the enemy of his enemy being his friend he puts another fiendish plan into action.
These books are always a fun time, and though the reader will of course get more out of them by knowing the back stories of Eddie and his team, it is by no means essential so the book can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone. While I had a great time reading this, I did find myself thinking at several points that the villain was almost cartoonish, he felt much less well developed or fleshed out than any of the other characters and it was almost like he had been built trait by trait from a psychology textbook, which is a shame as usually characterisation is something that Cavanagh excels at. I also felt like the ending of the book stretched credulity a little too much, it was just one twist too far for my taste. Though not the best of the Eddie Flynn books this would be a great airplane/ beach/ poolside read and when the next book releases I'll be dying to get my hands on it.
I read an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

4.5⭐️

Another Eddie Flynn book by Steve Cavanagh that had me on the edge of my seat!

Throughout the whole book, Cavanagh has you trying to piece together Flynn and Brooks cases yourself, with absolutely no certainty in which direction it will take. The use of several POV’s did confuse me a little to start with but without these, you wouldn’t have a full insight into the two connected storylines/cases.

I love the team and how they work together, even though they are definitely not perfect, but they are written to be unique and not typical law-abiding legal professionals. Their morals will always stand higher which is what makes Flynn’s revelations that much more jaw-dropping. The author has incorporated social media into this story which provides a contemporary element and shows the real dangers of being in the spotlight.

I felt like justice wasn’t properly served for Elly (even though they don’t know that, only the reader would know) and left me a little underwhelmed but the final twist was so unexpected, it definitely made up for it a bit.

Although these books are all part of a series, they are able to be read as standalones as the main storyline is a different case in every book. The background stories and character introductions are the only factors that are carried through each book.

✨ Thank you NetGalley and Headline books for approving my request to review this advanced copy of ‘Two Kinds of Stranger’ and thank you Headline for sending me a physical copy too

WOW. WOW WOW WOW!! Another absolutely incredible Eddie Flynn novel. Full of suspense and twists. Thought I knew where the book was heading but kept getting it wrong.
I love Eddie Flynn and his gang, love their dedication and how they twist the law.
The killer was scary and I really wasn’t sure if Eddie was going to solve it this time!
Love Elly and felt so bad for her, just wanted to give her a hug!
Another amazing book.

The Eddie Flynn series by Steve Cavanagh never disappoints and here we have another gripping, twisting and tense thriller.

Eddie is working on two cases this time. The first involves a TikTok star who has been falsely accused on the murder of her husband and her best friend - who had been having an affair behind her back. The evidence seems overwhelming against Elly. However, Eddie is an expert at defending the seemingly indefensible, alongside his trusted team. Block, Harry, Lake and Kate all return for this outing.

The second case is a little more closer to home: Eddie’s ex-wife and her new husband are facing homicide charges. Are the two cases linked? How far will Eddie go to uphold what is right in a corrupt legal system? Read this excellent next instalment to find out.

This just like any other Eddie Flynn novel …made me want to get home and start reading again straight away! Unfortunately, I have had a very busy week and too many plans and it took me longer to finish than I usually would have!

Reading an Eddie Flynn novel is an annual event for me. I have to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read this early - I JUST finished it the day of release. Another 5 star book!

It feels like being ‘home’ when I read one of Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn novels. I’ve read the whole lot and I can easily say this is one of my favourites.

The story completely had me hooked, I was not bored once during the almost 60 chapters- that’s just how good Steve is. The clever plot twists are insane I really don’t know how he does it and the books are so easy to read.

I was so happy to read that there are many more stories to come when reading the acknowledgements. Just a fantastic edition the series. Well crafted story with interesting characters.

Thank you for the early read. It was good to be back in New York with Eddie Flynn and his team. Loved the storyline, as Eddie and the team found themselves working on two cases. So much tension and some misdirection. Great closing chapter too. Hope there is another book planned!

This was my first Steve Cavanagh book and of course I had to choose the 9th book of Eddie Flynn series.. but this can definitely be read as a stand alone.
It’s told over five parts and multiple POV this is the kind of novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat. At first I I wasn’t sure how I was going to take to this but by chapter 9 the book had my full attention. You are kept guessing throughout the whole book and the ending was not what I was expecting!
I’m now away to add more of Steve’s books to my TBR 😍

This was a 2.5 star read for me. This book was entertaining, but I struggled to suspend my disbelief. The legal and police procedures felt poorly researched and unrealistic, and there were just too many convenient coincidences.

The series is made up of interconnected standalones, so it makes sense that we get each character's backstory - but it got tiresome how every new character was introduced as the smartest, strongest, or best in their field. And the endless POVs…

The social media references were cringey and overdone, and some of the more dramatic plot points were so over-the-top they became awkward.

I've enjoyed earlier books in this series, but unfortunately, this one didn't deliver for me.

My favourite Eddie Flynn to date!

The first chapter grips you and you stay for the whole story!

So many perfectly timed twists and turns and makes for an excellent legal thriller.

As always in my opinion the Eddie Flynn books can be read as standalone but if you start with this one you will be aiming high!

Another excellent Eddie Flynn story. It's great to be back with Eddie and his team. In this case, they are helping influencer Ellie Parker who has been charged with murder. There's another side plot concerning Eddie'x ex-wife and family, who are also being threatened. It's fast paced, well written and tense, with a great twist at the end. Logan is really frightening.
Highly recommended.

Ellie had the perfect life which she broadcast online for everyone to see. Unfortunately when she witnessed the ultimate betrayal, everyone was also watching!

Even at her lowest Ellie still wanted to go out of her way to help a stranger in need which made her the perfect target for a particularly dangerous stranger.

Conman turned lawer Eddie Flynn takes on her case where nothing is as it seems and everyone is in danger.

Steve Cavanagh has done it again, bringing us the team that we've come to know and love as they try to get their client through trial using their not so orthodox methods. I really enjoyed this story where we see things from varous perspectives as the story develops.
If you haven't read any Eddie Flynn books before you would still be able to enjoy this one as any important back story is covered neatly in this book.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Headline for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Eddie Flynn makes a thrilling return in this pulse-pounding story.

That is rife with misdirection, gripping courtroom drama and relentless suspense. That will have you on the edge of your seat.

As Elly who has found fame through TikTok videos and random acts of kindness, suddenly finds herself entangled in a nightmare. After helping a handsome stranger, she becomes a pawn in a deadly game. Waking in the hospital, drugged and accused of murdering her unfaithful husband and her best friend, the woman who had betrayed her.

And in a world where nothing is as it seems Elly's wild story is met with scepticism, except for one steadfast ally: Eddie Flynn. Who is determined to uncover the truth, believing in her innocence despite the chaos surrounding the case.

But as the courtroom drama unfolds, surprises lurk around every corner. With the enigmatic stranger Logan watching the trial from the shadows calculating his next move. As he seems to be holding all the cards.

But is his charade as flawless as it appears?

And with each turn of the page, the tension mounts leading to an explosive climax. That will keep you guessing and with richly crafted characters, intense drama both inside and outside the courtroom and a story that unfolds with masterful precision. Two Kinds of Stranger is a standout in the genre and a gripping novel. That is a must-read for anyone seeking a thrilling reading escape this summer.

Steve Cavanagh delivers yet another masterclass in legal thrills with the latest installment in the beloved Eddie Flynn series. As with the rest of the series, this can be read as a standalone, but be warned: a taste of Flynn's world will likely send you scrambling to read the entire back catalog, as I am certainly planning to do!

In this riveting new case, Eddie Flynn and his unconventional team are tasked with defending Ellie Parker, who stands accused of the brutal murder of her new husband and her best friend, with whom he was having an affair. The evidence seems damning, but Ellie maintains her innocence, claiming she too is a victim of a sinister plot. The true culprit, a chilling stranger, is seemingly wandering the city, committing murders and meticulously framing others. It's a race against time for Flynn's team to prove Ellie's innocence and unmask the real killer before she's condemned for a crime she didn't commit.

From start to finish, "Two Kinds of Stranger" is absolutely riveting. Cavanagh's signature brilliance in plotting shines through, with a story so cleverly laid out that you'll be on the edge of your seat. The narrative unfolds with precision, keeping you guessing and enthralled throughout.

What truly sets this series apart, beyond the ingenious legal battles, are the incredibly lovable and uniquely random characters that make up Eddie's legal team. If you're already familiar with them, you'll enjoy their antics and unwavering loyalty as much as ever. If this is your first venture into the world of Eddie Flynn, be prepared to meet a cast of individuals who, on paper, shouldn't work together as a legal team, and yet they do, often in ways that are brilliantly effective and not always 100% within the strict confines of the law. Their dynamic adds a fantastic layer of humor and heart to the intense legal drama.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve not read all the books in the Eddie Flynn series but will be sure to do so now!

There are dual plots which are interlinked, influencer Elly being accused of murder, and a case involving Eddies ex wife and new husband. The story has been written in and incredibly clever way, slowly building to what was a masterful conclusion. I especially liked *the* twist at the end.

Huge thank you for the ARC of this book, I’m going back now to finish the series!

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for the chance to review this arc.

I am a huge fan of Steve Cavanagh, so when I got approved for this book, I was straight onto reading. Again, this book follows Eddie Flynn, a con artist turned lawyer. In this novel, Eddie Flynn is hired to help out Elly, a TikTok star accused of murdering her husband and best friend. After finding her husband in bed with her best friend, Elly’s life seems to unravel. As you read on through the book, you get introduced to multiple characters whose lives are intertwined by some unknown stranger who is manipulating behind the scenes in a sick and twisted game for his own pleasure.

The whole way through this book, you think that you know what’s going to happen to the characters and how it will play out for them. But what Steve manages to do within his writing is something else. He always manages to create a shock and a twist you don’t expect. This man is a genius, and I look forward to many more books from him within the Eddie Flynn series and others.

Like visiting old friends - Eddie, Kate, Bloch, Harry! Another fast paced story but not only is Eddie defending another innocent client but he is also looking out for his ex-wife and daughter.
As ever the book is well written and the relationships between the team develops even more. There is always one more twist.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Steve Cavanagh/Headline for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

Two kinds of strangers- 4⭐️

i love courtroom dramas, and steve cavanagh made me fall in love with them even more.
i loved how the first chapter started with helping a stranger and ending up in trouble. guess we really should never trust anyone😌

eddie flynn ofc was gonna defend her, but the moment the tables turned when his ex-wife christen and her husband kevin got into some trouble, his mind wandered between both cases simultaneously.
but thanks to kate and harry, they were the best he had on his team and i loved every single one of their strategies

there were so many twists and turns throughout, and the way the courtroom scenes played out was just brilliant!

and wow that ending ,i really didn’t see that one coming ✋🏻

thank you @netgalley @headline for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

Having read and enjoyed the first 8 books, I was delighted to see another instalment due and especially so to be allowed an ARC. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first 8 books

Yet another fantastic addition to the Eddie Flynn series. I love his writing and wonderful characters Such a well written book with an ingenious plot.
My only problem with this book, and I appreciate, it’s my personal problem is I struggle to have any sympathy with influence/Tiktokers.

Highly recommend the whole series, can’t wait for book 10.

Thank you NetGalley, the author and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
