Soooo although this is my first det. Casey book, and there are 12 before this one, I was immediately hooked. The author's writing style kept me glued to my kindle for 3 nights and on the edge of my bed!! For the life of me it's been some time since I read something so gripping! I will have to go download the 12 others quickly!!! Thank you so much NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book, I loved it!

It's supposed to be her last case. But it doesn't take long before Casey realizes this murder is eerily similar to a previous case. As more murders which are similar to previous cases happen, the horror increases. These cases hit home for Casey and Jericho and the closer they get to solving them, the more danger they will encounter. There are heart-stopping moments, lots of emotions and a surprising ending. Loved this story.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The shock value in this book will leave you speechless and chilled. This killer is beyond depraved.

Detective Casey White and team will have their hands full. For Casey, the stakes are also high for multiple reasons, some personal and others professional.

This tense thriller was at times electrifying, twisty, emotional and a lot of times more than a little horrifying. I always enjoy the characters in this series and their attachment to each other. It makes reading about them seem more personal as you get to know them on a professional and personal level.

The author really hit this one out of the park. When I started reading this one, time lost all meaning as I lived and breathed this book until I saw the end. Now I need to watch cartoons.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I absolutely love the Detective Casey White series and this installment was no different. There is always somehow the feeling that the characters could be normal regular people and that's what makes these books hit so hard. The descriptions are incredible, the pacing good and there are always some twists and turns.

Shadow on Her Grave is the latest in the Detective Casey White series, an excellent police procedural collection. Casey is a detective in the Outer Banks, who uprooted her life in Philadelphia in pursuit of her kidnapped daughter, several years before. The book can be read as a standalone as the author gives enough background material to a new reader.

In this latest, Casey is contemplating retirement and is likely working her last case. However, it becomes complicated as a series of killings appears to be related to previous cases solved by Casey in the past. The book is fast-paced and I found myself tearing through the chapters. What I always enjoy about this series is the character development and how the personal life of Casey is instrumental to the story and the series. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Thanks to the author, NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Detective Casey White is thinking in a short time her life will forever change. She's getting married to now Sheriff Jericho Flynn, finally, and she's retiring form her job as a detective. But all that is now all but forgotten. A young girl is found murdered and the evidence seems familiar to Casey. When a second young girl is found murdered, her evidence familiar as well, Casey is sure that someone is toying with them, using past cases for new murders. As Casey and the team dig further, she is sure that a woman thought long dead is not so dead after all. Paige Kotes did the unthinkable; she murdered several people, most importantly, Jericho's first wife, and nearly Jericho as well. Now it seems, however unlikely, Paige is back for more. When the police finally get a break it leads them to more than they could ever imagine and they only hope they will all come out alive and no more people will die.

Another gripping addition to the Casey White series!

“Shadow on Her Grave” delivers everything I’ve come to expect from B.R. Spangler suspense, emotion, and a mystery that keeps you turning pages late into the night. By book 13, you’d think the formula might start to wear thin, but this one still feels fresh.

Casey White continues to be a complex and compelling protagonist. Her dedication to justice, even when it puts her in danger, remains one of the strongest parts of the series. The case in this installment is dark and chilling, but handled with the kind of depth and sensitivity Spangler does well.

The pacing was solid, and while I had a few guesses about the ending, it still managed to surprise me. I especially appreciated the character development not just with Casey, but with her team as well.

Why not five stars? A couple of minor plot points felt a bit convenient, and I wanted just a little more emotional payoff in the final chapter. But overall, this was a satisfying, tension-filled read that fans of the series will definitely enjoy.

Turbocharged emotions: heart-pounding moments that grip you to your core!

Spangler truly delivered in book 13, Shadow on her grave. As Detective Casey White prepares to leave her role as detective and switch to being the primary caregiver to her and Jericho’s adopted children, she is faced with a final case that will have you wondering who will be left standing at the end.

Working with Casey, Emanuel Wilson has returned, stepping into the lead role, and set to take Casey’s position when she leaves. Tracey has started her new role as Investigator with the DA’s office but works closely with the team on this latest case along with Jericho, back in the role of Sheriff, in this emotionally charged case.

Someone has started recreating old cases - some of the worst serial killer cases the team have worked. There are flashbacks throughout, with the team struggling to understand who could be behind these brutal and senseless murders, their motive, and their end game.

The final scenes will have you gripped: an emotional rollercoaster that at one point had me shaking my head, saying out loud, “No, no, no, NO! Thankfully, I could breathe again with a beautiful, heartfelt ending.

Fast paced and chillingly addictive! Fans of Detective Casey White will be thrilled to be reconnecting with Casey and her sidekicks as danger comes knocking close to home when a new case stirs up memories of past cases one after another. This series is always wrought with tension and danger and is highly entertaining as we try to piece together who is doing what. I love Casey and Jericho and can't wait to see what the future holds. Tracy/Hannah is getting on my nerves with the games she keeps playing with Casey, hopefully one day soon she will straighten up and appreciate what she has. This particular plot was exciting and emotional at the same time. I highly recommend this series as a whole to anyone who enjoys a thriller with a great core group of investigators.

Book 13 in the fantastic Detective Casey White series. I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive reading this after how the previous book ended. But I needn't have worried. It was as wonderful as the previous books. I loved going back to the old cases and I was totally blindsided when the killer was revealed. Loved and and can't wait to read more.

The beads of saltwater caught on her cracked lips glitter in the moonlight, her long brown hair floating in the tide. But this beautiful girl is lost forever. And Casey’s biggest fears are realised. Someone is copying the worst of her previous cases: following her like a shadow. And they’ll stop at nothing to make sure she pays for her own mistakes…

As her soon-to-be-husband, Jericho Flynn, goes back to work as town sheriff, Detective Casey White is left juggling her work alongside her growing family. And when a spate of troubling murders hit the Outer Banks, the happy couple are stopped in their tracks…

Casey is called to a crime scene with eerie echoes to a killing she solved years ago. A young woman has been anchored to a boulder and drowned, just like in the Saltwater Graves murders.

Then a handwritten poem is delivered to Casey at the station. She immediately recognises the writing as that of a previous victim she couldn’t save. The killer is pointing them to yet another crime scene from Casey’s past. Only someone with knowledge of the original cases could recreate these murders with terrible accuracy. And the only link, is Casey herself.

The team chase the lead to a now-derelict beach house, way out on an abandoned island. Casey is totally devastated when they discover the lifeless body of Jericho’s wife, Jessie Flynn, posed in one of the upstairs rooms.

This is her most personal challenge yet. As they chase down a killer that could be closer than they ever imagined, will Casey and Jericho both make it out alive?

This case sees Casey and Jericho come up against one of the most twisted killers they have ever faced. And it's one they've dealt with before. I read this book with my heart in my mouth as again and again the pair come within a whisker of death. The killer wants them both gone and I had a horrible feeling that this might actually happen. It is a book to be read in one sitting with tension throughout culminating in the most emotional ending. Definitely one of the best books in this series.

Always happy to read another installment of the Detective Casey White series!

This one though had me nervous, as the characters were working on Casey's last case before retirement and I was not prepared to end the series.

As mentioned, a new case with throwbacks to old ones arises and Casey and the team work it as her last case before marrying Jericho and retiring to take care of Thomas and Tabitha. The coincidences are uncanny to earlier cases and the team has to figure out what this killer is trying to say and what he will attempt next.

As always, I loved the story and the character development, the throwback to old cases was wonderfully creepy for a mystery story. I'm also feeling much better that the author noted at the end that there will be more adventures of Casey. I'm very glad to not saying goodbye to a series I love.

This Series keeps getting better and better - and that's saying something. B.R. Spangler has taken Casey White into her last official case as a detective. She's retiring from the force - Emmanuel is taking over for her... and Jericho is back on duty, as well. Teaming up with Emmanuel, Tracy, and Jericho, Casey is called to a scene of a horrific murder. Something strikes her as familiar, but she sets that aside. Additional murders occur - and Casey realizes she has a copy cat on her hands. And, it's terrifying as it could be someone who she thought disappearred from her life long ago. Fast paced and full of suspense, I could not put this book down. I love each and every book in this series and feel the author has developed some well-written characters and relationships. Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

Another fantastic book by B.R. Spangler with the Detective Casey White series.

Lovely to have some old faces back on the scene, others not so much but karma’s a…
This instalment will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. With a gripping, brutal and heart breaking storyline with family drama and navigating ‘retirement’, it’s never a quiet moment in the Outer Banks.

The final few pages were 100% worth the wait (for those of us mildly obsessed with this series).
As always, I will continue to recommend this series, and this book, to anyone and everyone who’ll listen!

Thank you to NetGalley/Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest opinions. As a big Casey White fan, it was even more exciting!

My thoughts:
B.R. Spangler always shares a twisty, intense story….Shadow on Her Grave is right up there with an action packed, thriller read.
Multiple murders
Copycat murders
Bomb threats
You will be kept on the edge of your seat reading Shadow on Her Grave.
This is book #13 in the Detective Casey White series. I highly recommend reading the books in order as there is so much backstory you need to know about Casey, Jericho and her team of investigators.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

B. R. Spangler has a great way of weaving a story and his latest book in the Detective Casey White series does not disappoint at all. I've always enjoyed this series and Shadow on Her Grave has the best start and I was pulled into the story quickly and held my attention and interest all the way through. Casey investigates a murder similar to an old case and has to face her past in order to solve it. I loved the return of an old character, and hope to see them again. The authors writing is good and engaging and the plot is very well thought out. The story is fast paced and full of thrills, mystery and suspense that had me needing to know more and in my opinion makes this book a cracker of a read. I loved the ending, it gives good closure and I look forward to reading the next book. If you like police procedurals I'd recommend this although if you're new to this series read the books in order to know the characters from the start.

I really like this series! ! have read every book and they just get better. I will admit it was nice to read one where Casey wasn't injured as much. I was pretty sure I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong!
looking forward to more about Jericho and Casey.

Title: Shadow on Her Grave
Series: Detective Casey White Book 13

Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: July 18, 2025
My Rating: 4.2 Stars
Pages 271

This is #13 in this series abut I have only read a few. I live in Southern California but was born and raised in a small Appalachian town. Vacation at the Outer Banks many times and still have many wonderful memories. I truly enjoy stories when the Outer Banks is the setting.

This series features recurring characters Detective White and her soon to be husband Sheriff Jericho Flynn, as well as their blended family.

Story opens with a chilling scene: missing person Violet Jones is found drowned on the ocean’s edge with her foot chained to a cinderblock.
After some initial investigation Casey has a hunch about the identity of the killer, it seems like everyone on her team thinks she’s lost her mind.
There was so much going on in this story I had to remind myself to ‘breathe’!!

I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for July 18, 2025.

Casey is on her way to marriage and early retirement when a young woman's body is found, chained to concrete blocks and clearly drowned. Déjà vu as other crimes and crime scenes evolve, making it clearly personal to Casey, and to Jericho, fiancé and sheriff. There is a lot of referring to previous crimes but sufficient for this to be read as a standalone. Having read the previous books I can see how the story develops using these but it still felt tired at times. I also get that the whole wedding palaver has to be done but I felt too much time given over to the 'niceties' of fancies, dresses etc, especially as the happy couple have been together for years and have a family. At times I felt that the author was also tired of them - in which case it's a tidy way out. Overall, the murders were suitable nasty and horrific and the twists interesting. 3.5* rounded up. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

Shadow on her Grave by B.R. Spangler
I will have to read this series from the beginning, because this book sucked me and and endeared these characters to me. But I need to know the history and details leading to this plot.

I enjoyed Spangler’s writing and how the story was told. Jumping into a series at book 13 is risky, but the backstory was covered with enough detail to keep me reading.

I think I would appreciate the plot more if I understood the reference to past cases and mentions of characters. But I was impressed at how easily I could get lost in this storyline, despite jumping in so late.

I enjoyed this book. The writing was excellent, and the pacing was controlled and choreographed beautifully. I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning.
