What makes this book unforgettable is its refusal to fit into expected literary corrals. The prose is gritty yet poetic, like chewing tobacco laced with stardust. Characters like Brida, the ex-rodeo queen turned mystical farrier, and Maren, the violinist with a haunted fiddle, read like echoes of ancient sagas refracted through dusty diner booths and barn lofts. Their sisterhood is forged in fire, hoofbeats, and the weight of generational trauma.
While the multiple points of view aren’t always for me, and may detour other readers, the author makes this style work for the story. I would recommend this book to any reader looking for a refreshing, adventurous tale.
