A good start to a new series. I think my students will like this one. It reminds me a little of The Borrowers, but this is set in a forest.

First I'd like to thank the publisher for a digital arc of this book in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts are my own. The description of this manga said for fans of "The Borrowers" and "The Secret World of Arrietty" and I said: Sold! However I'm glad I was able to try out this book first and I'll get into why. I've loved stories like The Borrowers and similar books ever since I was a kid, where the "little folk" as they are called in this use objects in nature or random human objects in interesting ways like a thimble or a matchbox. I was about 16 or 17 when Arrietty came out and it just renewed my love for these kinds of stories. There was just something so whimsical and charming about it. I was expecting to love Sheeta's Little Big World as well, it sounded like a fun adventure as Sheeta goes in search of his friend who disappeared after they spy mysterious smoke in the distance. I was expecting cute slice of life moments about food and nature like foraging for nuts and berries or finding strange objects and figuring how they could make use of them. And while there were a few moments of them sprinkled in this first volume it's mostly a survival story with dangers from just about every creature they encounter even ones that I wouldn't expect to be threatening. And while that does seem more realistic I was surprised when they end up killing some of these dangers. If you're sensitive to animal deaths no matter how small I wouldn't recommend this series. If I had read this as a kid I probably would have cried and hated it. They do use a couple of the creatures as food (one of which is a fish). There is some blood shown with a spear also being involved as well as cutting up the meat. Not too much is shown but my initial thought that this would be a cool colored manga or an anime changed here with me being glad it was in black and white. There were also a few dark moments one of which was Sheeta searching for his friend's remains in a pile of bones (he doesn't find him) another moment was a character's back story though this is just briefly shown. So my final thoughts: while this manga isn't for me if you don't mind a survival story that's a bit of a darker take on The Borrowers then you might enjoy this book.

A great introduction to a new series. This is very Classic Fantasy Adventure but with a *tiny* twist. I'm sure to pick up the next couple of volumes. Great for younger readers.

This was a sweet start to a three volume manga series that feels somewhere between "Delicious in Dungeon" and, of course, "The Borrowers." I love the vibes, the storyline is off to a good start, and the characters and world are interesting. I would classify it as MG and up age wise. I definitely plan on adding this to my library collection, and am personally looking forward to reading the next two books in the series as well.

I can see why people are suggesting that Ghibli fans will also enjoy this book!
I have completely fallen in love with Sheeta's world. The art is wonderful, the characters are interesting, and the story is compelling. I loved every single second, and I can't wait to read the next books in the series when they come out! Hopefully it's not too long because I'm obsessed!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This was a cute little manga with a lot of potential! It follows Sheeta as he ventures beyond his village into the woods to find his friend Nala. I agree with other reviewers that it is similar to the borrowers, but imagine the borrowers live exclusively in the woods and fight weasels and rats and rainstorms. I enjoyed how facts about the natural world were sprinkled into the story.

I had a bit of trouble following some of the frames from one to the other in fight scenes and trying to figure out what happened there. Some of the jumping from past to present also confused me. I had a hard time figuring out when flashbacks started and ended. Despite these things, it was a cute little first entry into a series.

A cute story, about little people living their lives against predators like mice and ferrets as sheeta explores the world outside his village. Can't wait to read more of this series.

Sheeta goes off on a big adventure to find his friend and father through the great big world. Any world would be big for someone who is under 5 inches tall! Sheeta finds new friends and new dangers while looking for the people he loves.

Little Sheeta—no, really—lives in a town inside a hollowed-out log with their fellow “littlefolk” who stand no taller than a blade of grass.

When his friend Nala runs off to investigate a mysterious smoke signal, Sheeta will summon all of his courage to go look for him. Their world is filled with dangers, but he won’t stop until he finds his friend!

Overall thoughts:

Sheeta’s Little Big World is the textbook definition of a charming, cottagecore cozy read. With the fall season coming up, I couldn’t think of a better manga to read bundled in a chunky blanket and a crunchy snack.

This story is full of heart, led by a courageous protagonist who proves that small stature doesn’t mean small sprit. It reminded me of the stories I used to read as a child, and I mean that in the best way possible because I still adore them to this day.

As Sheeta’s journey unravels, he comes face to face with the dangers of the world, a mysterious stranger, and some more littlefolk along the way. I really enjoyed the dynamics, but especially how creative Yuki Kamba was with the worldbuilding. I mean, a little matchbox as a backpack? It’s brilliant!

The characters have their culture, beliefs, and honor codes—for example, if they take an animal’s life in self defense. The story’s punchy pacing keeps you on your toes and whether you’re a very young reader or an experienced veteran, this adventure offers a lot to love.

Who is Sheeta’s Little Big World for?

I’d recommend this to manga fans in general! If you’re looking for something interesting and wholesome, yet adventurous and full of spirit, reminiscent of a 2000s Pixar movie, you will probably enjoy Sheeta’s Little Big World.

See you in the next one!

First I would like to thank NetGalley, the Author and the Publisher for this digital ARC.

This one gave me a whole lot of Studio Ghibli vibes and I'm totally here for it! 🤩
I loved the movie "Arrietty" by Studio Ghibli and as a child I was a fan of both the movies and books of "The Borrowers" and "Arthur and the Minimoys", so "Sheeta's Little Big World" was right up my ally.

The manga was actually kind of informative, explaining certain animal behavior and survival methods, which I'm also a fan of. It's learning things without effort. It reads pretty young though, but still shows the everyday brutality of nature, which I also love. The art was very sweet and cute yet detailed. The story in itself is wholesome and adventurous but leaves you with some questions in the end.

I would like to know if they find Nala and if he is still alive. I'm also wondering if Sheeta's dad is still alive and if he has an explanation for the so called "crimes" he committed and I'm looking forward to them discovering who or what made those footprints. 😉
So I am looking forward to the second volume and hope to be approved for that ARC when it comes out.

All in all, I enjoyed this manga and I will recommend it to the right audience.
Thank you!

Very, very cute manga!

Sheeta leaves the village where his father left him, and now on an adventure to find his friend Nala who went missing from the village to find Sheeta's father.
Sheeta comes across others who help him or need help.
In this little big world, they encounter many dangers from the wildlife that surround them... such as rats and ants!

Enjoyed this manga, can't wait to read volumes 2 and 3!

Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for thsi ARC!

Sheeta's Little Big World 1 by Yuki Kamba was another tiny person story a la The Borrowers or The Secret of Arriety. It follows two friends, Sheeta and Nala as they venture into the giant wilderness to try and find Sheeta's father. It was fun, but didn't grab my attention thoroughly. I would maybe recommend this story for a middle school age reader.

This story follows a young boy who was left behind by his father. After a small argument with his adventurous friend, the friend takes off to explore the world, leaving our main character to follow on his own. Since they are little people, the outside world is enormous and full of dangers—but that doesn’t stop him. As he searches for his friend, he might find more than just answers to where his friend went; he could also uncover why his father never returned. The art in this story is incredibly cute and beautifully brings the world to life.

This is super cute! I would definitely recommend this for younger readers interested in fantasy.

This was a perfectly respectable little story, but I just didn't really connect with it. Probably better suited to younger readers.

As for the art, I like the fact that it is a more realistic style, but the panels tend to feel a bit cluttered or busy.

Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ (4/5).

"Sheeta’s Little Big World" is the first volume of a very cozy read that feels like a Studio Ghibli film. The artwork is beautiful, the worldbuilding is whimsical, and Sheeta is such an endearing protagonist. I loved the clever details about how the “littlefolk” survive in the forest—it made the story feel magical and educational at the same time.

The pacing is a bit slow in places, but overall I enjoyed it, and will be waiting for the next volumes.

This was a really fun read. Sheeta is such a sweet and kind main character, and I loved the way information about the environment was interwoven into the story.

🩵 SHEETAS LITTLE BIG WORLD VOLUME 1 🩵
.
I got the great honor of reading this advanced reader copy (ARC) here on Netgallery and want to share my thoughts. It’s not my usual genre where I review on instagram, but I love most manga so I wanted to give it a chance.
.
STORY: Sheeta is a ”little folk” that lives safely in a village. Their friend Nala goes missing and they gather all their courage to go out into the great unknown forest to find them. The story is about Sheetas big adventure in the forest, and the different people and creatures they meet in the search for their friend. In volume 1 we learn uncomfortable truths about Sheetas father, get hunted by weasels and try to save a village from ants.
.
MY THOUGHTS: This is a light hearted and lovely story about love for the outdoors through the eyes for the little folk. We learn about how the forest work, and we do so by following a compelling story. It should be perfect (and just a perfect amount of scary) for younger children. This is a cozy and lighthearted read with a lot of love for adventure and exploring.

I loved this! I am only relatively new to reading manga but this was such an easy read.

Sheeta is a little person living in a village where his Dad left him, saying that he would come back for him. Sheeta's best friend Nala goes missing one day and Sheeta goes looking for him. He crosses paths with a mysterious stranger and they work together to find Nala and Sheeta's father.

This was a cross between a studio Ghibli movie and Delicious in Dungeon, and I couldn't read it fast enough. Sheeta is adorable, I really loved the art style, and the ending had me wanting to read the next volume already. I will be buying a physical copy of this and I really can't wait to read the next volume.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely adorable!! The core of the story is a very classic adventure tale, with a dangerous new environment that the protagonist needs to traverse in order to find their missing friend. The wilderness survival element kind of reminds me of Dungeon Meshi, so I think fans of that would also enjoy this.
