Short and very sweet with adult characters. Definitely a green flag bl.
I will be looking for it in stores to add to my collection

I gave this manga 4 stars. It’s a really enjoyable short story that you can finish in about 20 minutes, but it still manages to leave an impression. The artwork is beautiful, and I found myself especially drawn to the way the characters were illustrated.
I usually don’t read manga, but this one intrigued me right away, and I’m so glad I requested it. Since it was my very first manga, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the experience turned out to be really positive. I can confidently say it won’t be my last one!

I found this one-shot BL manga quite comedic. Chiba is the most popular driving instructor at his company due to his kindness and good looks. He has, however, one rule: to reject all romantic advances. He starts doubting this rule when he starts lessons with a new student, Yaotome, whose sharp, cool, and collected or so it seems.
Chiba and Yoatome were sweet.
Without revealing any spoilers, I can say that there are some problematic behaviours as part of the plot. I enjoyed how these were resolved in a manner that both addressed the problematic parts and, simultaneously, managed to keep the overall tone of the story lighthearted. It is important to note that this story focuses more on how they get to the point where they officially start dating and not so much on how the relationship develops after as thats where the one-shot ends.

A very cute oneshot bl manga about a manga artist and his driving instructor.
The story is very simple which works great for a short oneshot story like this. The characters were great and their personality were very distinct and fleshed out. I really liked how they communicated their feelings and the miscommunications that happened throughout the story. I would definitely recommend this to other people as a quick and enjoyable read!

This manga is just the sweetest thing ever. It feels like a warm hug from the very first page, soft, adorable, and so comforting to read. Even though there are some painful and heartbreaking moments (poor little Chiba, my heart went out to him 💔), the overall story still wraps you up in this gentle, cozy feeling.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for granting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Short, sweet, super light reading!

i love this mangaka and their art style. it feels somehow cozy and really cute. their stories are even better, it's what completes the perfection of their works.
the setting here is so inetersting. i've never read a BL about driving school which is where one of the character's in this manga works. our second character comes to the school to get lessons, and here on starts a story full of cuteness, awkwardness and communication (!!!).
i loved how the characters really behaved like adults. yes, they had some mishaps, as it happens in life, but there was no over-the-top drama. also, the humor in this manga is so great.
the topic of fear of driving is close to me so i was nodding to every moment of Yaotome's anxiety (because same).
overall, this work may seem as nothing special, just another cute one-shot BL, but for me the coziness and humor of the story with interesting setting and amazing art style made it one of my favorites. i will return to it for comfort for sure.

"My Instructor Won't Yield" by Deme Kingyobachi is a slice of life BL that left me smiling. I adored the "meet cute" of our two main protagonists, even as their actual road to coupledom was a little bumpy.
I don't think I've ever read a manga with a driving school setting. This story brought my own memories of learning to drive to the surface, but I certainly didn't have a cute instructor! Anyway, the plot is not complicated but that doesn't take away from how well the author drew the couple together. I think this would make an "adorkable" anime.
"My Instructor Won't Yield" is likely a one shot story, but it feels complete to me. I really enjoy reading it so I'll have to find more of this author's work.
Thanks to NetGalley for the review copy.

Chiba is a driving instructor that charms everyone. Also had a bad experience with love. Yaotome is manga artist trying to get his license for his cat. He’s shy and nervous when it comes to people he likes. Chiba is fascinated with Yaotome. Their love is a slow burn. With time they grow closer together. And learned so much about each other. I like that you get a mystery on why Chiba looks so familiar to some people. They do have a cute little love story. The art style is beautiful and I also like the storyline. Because it makes you want more of these two.

SO CUUUUUUUUTE I WAS GIGGLING HALF THE TIMEEEEEE!! I had such a good time at two a.m. that i was seriously worried i would wake up my family ( i didn't). I just wish it hadn't happened in such a hurry... It has the perfect potential to be such a good slow burn, more even adding more driving classes, since everyone relates to some of the difficulties Yaotome had (i too pANICKED when they let me drive "freely" for the first time...it was sickening). I think that is because of this rush that i felt like i skipped half of their relationship ToT So ready to read more about my silly gooses!

ADORABLE!! ENCHANTING!! I loved this!!
Without spoiling too much this was an adorable story and I read it in one sitting. (Could not put it down, so cute!!)
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read this.

this was so cute, i had a bright smile on my face the entire time. the characters were likable, the story was easy to follow and the driving anxiety was something i could totally relate to.

An absolute delight! Chiba and Yaotome were such a laugh out loud couple and while the story was simple, it had just enough angst and intrigue to keep me engaged.

It’s a very cute story but I’m not a big fan of over the top confessions when you don’t even really know the other person. Just say you like them or have a crush on them. Either way, the art is fantastic and I really liked the characters. The story is very sweet and it’s a good read.

I got this as a digital arc from NetGalley recently and I thought it was a really cute, short one shot! It's realistically messy when it needs to be, and sweet when it also needs. So cute!!

The vibes of this work are sweet and well-meaning, a student teacher dynamic that is actually handled well between two consenting adults.
I really liked this one, the art is great, the story as a whole is good. I think Yaotome is a socially anxious character, and this was well-represented. I feel like because it's a one-shot, it does feel like a contained work. The characters are interesting, but could be fleshed out more if they had more chapters to grow. It is also a sweet story, as there isn't anything inherently explicit here, it is more implied.
I would recommend to those looking for a comfort read with really stellar art and cute characters

I loved My Instructor Won't Yield, and it was such a cute and wholesome BL manga. I thought the story itself was just intricate enough for the length, and the characters were well made and very cute together. I really liked the setting of the DMV, the connection between Chiba and Yaotome and the the art style is so beautiful! I hope to read more stories from Deme Kingyobachi in the future, and highly recommend this fun and cute manga!

“My Instructor Won’t Yield” by Deme Kingyobachi
5⭐️/5⭐️
What the heck, this was such a cute story! Chiba is a driving instructor that knows how to turn on the charm for his job, putting students at ease with his warm personality. Yaotome wants to learn how to drive, but he’s so nervous on his first day at driving school! There are some fun little surprises as the story progresses, which makes it all the more sweet. I binged it in an hour, I didn’t want to stop reading.
If you’re looking for a short and sweet queer romance, I highly recommend it!

More of an 4.5
This was just straight up adorable!
Didn't know what to expect from the characters, but they were really refreshing. AND OLDER MY GOD. I don't need much to enough a good BL, but man do i appreciate some variety in my manga reads. Can't say i ever read one about driving instructors and their 'students'.
I especially liked Yaotome ♥︎
man's a bit of a disaster, in the most positive way. Really sweet, one third romantic, two third anxious and 100% down bad lol, can't blame him.
The story itself was a joy, especially for a one-shot.
Like there was always some elements of 'drama' or a 'reveal' to shake things up a bit, but they never felt redundant or plain stupid. Everything that happend between them was understandable and the way they acted made sense.
Only real criticism would be that the translation to 'Mr' didn't work for me, it felt weird and made them sound more distant with each other than probably intended. Also one could always expand more on the story, and the characters (which is the case with most one-shots tbh). Not that it felt lacking in any substantial way here.

Have you read a story based on driving school? Deme Kingyobachi’s newly released manga “My Instructor Won’t Yield’ is a breath of fresh air in the otherwise trope filled boys love manga world.
Yaotome (aka the Sharp Suited Prince) is a 30 year old who wants to learn how to drive since his cats vet is quite far. Like what a cute and lovable reason to drive! He is partnered with driving instructor Chiba who has the reputation for rejecting all romantic advances from his driving students.
This manga was light and surprisingly fun. Yaotome is a manga artist (this isn’t a spoiler as it’s on the back cover) and his reasoning for wearing a suit to driving lessons is adorable. There is also little driving and parking tips for the reader. Deme was also going through driving lessons when creating this manga, which explains why the lessons were realistically portrayed. Little details like these are what more manga need!
Thank you @Netgalley and @Kodansha Comics for sending me this eARC!
