I really enjoyed this and I'm glad I gave it a read. It was very cute!

It would have been nice if it was longer so we could have spent more time with the characters and their relationship could have been more fleshed out but for a one volume manga I thought it did enough to make me believe that the relationship was genuine.

Sweet and fun!

This was a really cute and sweet BL manga! While I'm not the biggest fans of single-volume-BLs, I thought this did a great job with the limited space it had, and I'm glad I read it!

2.75 rounded up.

This was cute, but won’t stand out much after the passage of time. The story itself though is cute, and I always enjoy the cultural differences in driving between Japan vs the USA. I mean we put 15 year olds on the road and say have at it little Timmy! But I digress, this was sweet but could have been a bit more flushed out.

Apparently, this manga wants me to believe it’s not uncommon to fall in love with your driving instructor—something about the “adult student-teacher dynamic” and the close quarters of a car. Couldn’t be me. I hate driving, spent every single lesson visibly stressed, and my instructor was about three times my age, so… yeah, no sparks there.

That said, I was grinning like an idiot watching two grown men blush at each other in the front seat. We’ve got Chiba, the driving instructor, and Yaotome, his new student who happens to be a manga artist. I’m still not sure what the English title is going for—neither of them seems all that reluctant about starting a relationship after a little time together. They’re actually pretty cute, and while there’s a tiny unnecessary misunderstanding, the way they handled things felt surprisingly mature for a BL.

I’ve read Strange Happenings at Nekomachi Shopping District (still no official English release, sadly) by the same mangaka, so I can say with confidence that her art style is easy to spot. I really like her character designs, though the backgrounds here were a bit more sparse. Overall, nothing groundbreaking, but a nice BL with a slightly unusual setup. I thought it was a one-shot—it reads like one—but apparently, it’s a series. On hiatus in Japan, though. I’m not opposed to continuing… just have to wait and see if it comes back.

they were so cuteee omg i just absolutely love this. they're so cute and funny. Yatome being a mangaka did not surprise me at all and him being a cat dad too like <33333 i need this to be longer and have an anime cause this manga deserves it. i love how easy going and fun read this was without there being no heavy subject and only a teensy bit of angst with the ex situation but that was resolved quickly cause we love an honest man who is not afraid to communicate 🫶 anywho, go read this rn if you haven't 😠🫵

This was a cute little one shot manga! I love that it was a driving school setting because I have never read a BL manga set like this. I loved the art style. It was funny and sweet. Yaomote being so awkward and kind of creepily obsessed with Mr. Chiba was so cute.

I wanted to love this BL manga so badly but unfortunately it didn’t hit for me. The romance was rushed and there wasn’t much substance for me, in fact it came across as a little creepy. The characters were cute but I wished there was more development.

My Instructor Won't Yield is a sweet story about a manga creator and his driving instructor. They seem to meet by happenstance at the driving school, but it turns out there's more to the story! I really enjoyed the artwork, the characters and the storyline. A light and cute read where the characters actually talk to clear up misunderstandings. Loved it!

Enjoyed the story, as someone who recently went through driving school. Didn't have this experience with my instructor though! Haha. Interested to read more about these characters.

A special thank you for the ARC

First of all, I want to mention how this manga was a breath of fresh air. As someone who reads a lot of mangas and graphic novels in my life, I loved how unique the setting of this one was and how amazing it contributed to the story.

Their journey is so heartwarming and lovely. The characters and how they reacted in particular situations were really relatable to me. I easily could've read at least another book or two about their daily life after they got together.

The art style was simple but at the same time
Gorgeous too, and it conveyed their chemistry really well.
Overall I throughly enjoyed this manga and definitely am looking forward to this artist's future works.

A popular driving instructor finds his match when he's paired up to teach the mysterious Yaotome, whose secret might just question everything he knows about the "sharp-suited prince". I loooooved this! It was SO sweet and adorable! I am upset this is only a one-shot! I would've loved to have more chapters about Chiba and Yaotome!

This was a cute little story. The artwork was alright. I thought the drawings themselves were nice, but the sketchiness of them almost made it look unfinished. It might have just looked that way though since I was reading a digital arc on my computer? Anyway, the story was a cute quick read. A couple different conflicts arise, but they are all solved quickly and easily.
I wasn't really a fan of the story order (or timeline, I guess?). For the first main issue, Chiba learns that he is the main inspiration for Yaotome's manga. Chapter 2 ends with Chiba confronting Yaotome about it and them separating. Only for chapter 3 to start with Chiba and Yaotome together in a car on a road trip. Then we get a flashback explaining what happened and how they reconciled a couple panels later. This flashback picked up right after chapter 2. I feel like this is a common structure in manga and I have never liked it. If you are going to reveal the flashback right away then just tell it the story in order. I'm sure they do this because the chapters are often released on a weekly or monthly basis, but it makes the completed volumes feel super segmented.
Anyway though, I really enjoyed the scenes where we actually got to see them talk and get to know each other. I recommend this manga if you are looking for a cute read with not a lot of drama.

This was a really cute read! If you love a silly, fun and heartwarming story with beautiful art and refreshing setting then I recommend this one. I adored the characters and their relationship. You could feel the intimacy whenever they glanced at each other, just simply existing in each other’s presence.

3.2 ~ 3.5 🌟
The story is extremely sweet and I really enjoyed reading it! However, it felt really rushed with little to no plot twist(s). While I liked both of Chiba's and Yaotome's characters, I feel like they are missing some depth. The ending, as well, seemed pretty quick, as if the author just wanted to get over with it.
In conclusion, the story is really nice but it lacks some depth, patience and consistent plot twist (s).
*Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha for providing me with a digital ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!*

such a new concept where with the romance manga being set in driving school! this was actually really cute and funny

a handsome grumpy man shows up for his driving lesson. He has an air of professionalism to him bc he came to the lesson wearing a suit. hence his nickname "the prince" came to be. surprisingly the prince actually has driving anxiety which is so real of him. never judge a book by its cover. as we learn more about "the prince", we find that he is a cutie patooie. the main reason he wants to get his license is to drive his new cat to the vet.

anyways just a cute romance manga with student x teacher vibes and cute romance

Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this manga. This is an adorable BL manga with a driving school concept. I think the only issue I had with it was the miscommunication aspect. Because of these points, I have to give this 4 out of a 5 stars.

If you love a silly, fun, heartwarming story full of gap moe, beautiful art and a refreshing setting, this is for you!! My heart is full from how cute this was.

Chiba works as a driving instructor and is regularly fawned on by his students. One day a handsome, princely guy signs up for classes but Chiba quickly learns that he's actually a clumsy, scaredy cat and an otaku, which only makes him more interested!

One thing i reaaally love is when characters are intimate without it being downright sexual. Glances, simply being in the presence of each other...it's so sweet to me.

Sensei's art is so beautiful and I love the emotions that seep through it. Please read this sweet story!! 💛

I'm also excited that this is getting a continuation and I hope Kodansha localizes it too!

On a sadder note, however, I found the book to be a little lacking when it comes to the lettering...
Throughout the whole thing there are kerning issues that are pretty evident and would sometimes make the readability suffer. Since I got a review copy I hope these were fixed...

My Instructor Won't Yield, which also appears to be known by "Car Crush", follows a male driving instructor named Chiba. He is seen as the top instructor to crush on by all the women that he's helped instruct, so he tries to have men be the ones he helps train. He is adamantly against any sort of romance involving someone from his place of employment due to a traumatic event from his past. That is, until Yaotome shows up, a very attractive grown man who's personality is in stark contrast to his looks. We follow the two as Yaotome tries to get his license so he can drive his new cat to the vet *sobs*.

I found this to be a very cute and soft yaoi with an equally soft art style. I think our two MMC have good personalities and drive (no pun intended) and interact well with each other. There was nothing super toxic in this volume, the one thing was between one MMC and an ex, and the one miscommunication is very quickly resolved. I absolutely adore some of the small side characters and how supportive they are of getting these two together. I really appreciate that Yaotome's job shines through in his personality at unexpected times! And what an unexpected career for him to have!!

For those of you that don't like any sort of sex/explicit scenes in their manga, this one is for you :) A few intimate moments, but they fade to black!

This is volume one in the series, but I think it reads very well as a standalone so you won't have to worry about a cliff hanger.

My main complaint is we didn't get to meet the cat, like come on!!!

Thank you so much Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this manga as an ARC!

From start to finish, this oneshot was funny, cute and romantic. I adored both central characters and the way their lives intersected due to their unique occupations. I'm so sad this wasn't a series because I would love to see how Yaotome's manga evolves after the relationship (and I want Chiba to have his wedding to stick it to his ex) but I loved this story for what it was. I also loved the art!!

This manga is super cute and funny. Even though it is technically part of a series the first volume can totally be read on its own. The story is simple. Yaotome wants to learn how to drive and ends up falling for his instructor Chiba. It is straightforward but has nice little touches like Yaotome being a mangaka some cool car stuff their backstories and a quick shoutout to cats. I wish there were more cats though. The art looks great and both characters are easy to like. It is not groundbreaking or super deep but it is a really satisfying read with nothing major to complain about. The only tiny thing I would say is about the translation. Using Mr instead of Japanese honorifics felt a bit off to me. I think sticking with Japanese titles or dropping them would fit better.
