This BL manga is equally funny and cute. I really enjoyed reading this one. The pacing is good, the story is solid and the characters are believable and make the story enjoyable as well.

super cute read, i adore the art style! although it's a relatively short one shot, the characters have growth and the plot doesn't feel rushed, i would read another volume for more of them!

Sort of insta-lovey with little build up (I thought it was a one shot, so I didn’t mind this at all, but knowing it’s a series that will continue, I feel like a little more ground work could have been layered). But honestly I thought it was cute as heck. I loved both of these characters sm and I am happy knowing this is a first in a series because I’m gonna need more of them! The art was so delightful as well!

This was a really cute one-shot! Even with the fast pace of the relationship there were still little mishaps along the way with resolution. I wish it was more of a coincidence than a 2-year longing but I still enjoyed it.

This was such a cute manga about a 30 year old learning to drive, and the instructor with whom he has a lot of chemistry. I loved seeing their relationship develop and I’d love more like this! I was sad that it was over so soon, because I was enjoying it so much. A great read!

I really liked the art style and found the characters’ relationships to be super cute. Though it is a very short story and a oneshot, I found myself wanting to know more about the characters and how their story develops well after the manga ending.
I would love to see more from this author and their future stories!

I really enjoyed this story. From the very beginning, it's engaging. It centers around Chiba, a driving instructor who’s very popular among his students, and his new trainee, Yaotome. Yaotome at first seems like an outgoing guy, but when he sees his instructor, he is caught by surprise and becomes nervous in his presence. However, there is one particularly interesting situation: when Yaotome meets Chiba for his very first driving lesson, Yaotome calls Chiba by a different name. This scene in particular seems very important to me because it hooks the reader and sparks curiosity about the reason behind Yaotome’s confusion in calling Chiba by another name.
After the initial encounter, the story moves a little slowly, but it’s still interesting. Little by little, we learn more about both protagonists' lives and pasts. Later on, it’s revealed why Yaotome calls Chiba “Maki,” as well as the reason he gets so nervous around him and his attempts to form a friendship with him.
When it comes to Chiba, I must admit that his character gave me many surprises. I expected the return of a certain person to cause major drama between the protagonists, but instead, it helped bring them closer and clarify the feelings they have for each other.
I'm eagerly anticipating what's next for Chiba and Yaotome.
Thank you to NetGalley, the Author, and Kodansha Comics for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Yet another win of a one-shot BL that was the perfect amount of story all wrapped up in a single volume. While I would love more, it was the perfect amount to keep me on my toes and giggling the entire time. Chiba as a character was so funny, being a pretty face that rejects all thoughts of romance until a new student starts at the driving school he's a instructor at. It's a great story full of ups and downs and had me smiling the whole time!

Just finished an arc copy of My instructor wont yield by Deme Kingyobachi. It was a cutsey quick read. They are both grown men but one of them behaves like a high school girl. It was an ok read. It gave me heartstopper vibes. I don't love it but I dont hate it. It’s just not my cup of tea.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for this ARC!
I found this a very sweet and simple story, and would read more by this author if I were ever looking for something similar. I wish that it had been a coincidence rather than a long time secret crush though! Still, very sweet, and the artwork is well done and distinct between characters.
3/5

My Instructor Won't Yield is a cute one-shot BL manga. Chiba is a popular instructor at a driving school but is still getting over his ex leaving him. Yaotome lucks into Shiba being his instructor but accidentally calls him Maki san, who is a character from the manga Yaotome writes. Shiba is at first offended by being referenced in his manga, but quickly warms up to the idea of it and Yaotome as a person. The two have easy chemistry and are cute together. I would have liked to see them develop further in another volume. Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH! The characters are cute and complex in nature; they're not like they seem from first glance in the slightest. The fact that Yaotome crumbles almost immediately after Chiba gets into the car at the start was soooooo funny and adorable. I had so much fun reading this. I'm really disappointed that it's only a one-shot volume rather than being a longer series! I want to see more of the two in a healthy relationship, as well as how they navigate situations together.
Also, as someone who got their license in their mid-20s, I relate so much to Yaotome in his attempt to get his license. It made me smile so much when he struggled at first because it reminded me of all the times I did too. A type of kinship perhaps, which I love! 4.5 Stars rounded up to 5.

I originally heard of the title last fall when Kodansha announced new licenses. I would have never guessed there would be a BL centered around driving school! And back in April, My Instructor Won't Yield was runner-up in the BL Sommelier Recommendation Category for the Chill Chill BL Awards! So, when I saw it available on NetGalley, I immediately read it. The story has a familiar premise of one character, Chiba in this case, having a heartbreak that makes him distrustful of new love. I was delighted throughout the story, especially because of the contrast in Yaotome's personality and looks. His clumsy attempts to be put together and failure to hide his feelings makes him an endearing love interest. I particularly loved his introduction, where he initially has an aura of a shojo manga hero. But when Chiba enters the car with him it all vanishes, with Yaotome trembling behind the wheel instead.
Deme Kingyobachi times the story beats of the different comedic moments really well throughout the story. While there was some emotional whiplash before chapter three's Hokkaido trip, the story is overall very light and sweet. Being a single volume story, the story progression is rather quick, and I wish there were more! I truly enjoyed the spin of the driving school setting, and the artwork added extra charm. I especially loved the way Deme Kingyobachi drew all of Yaotome and Chiba's blushing faces and silly expressions. The confessions from both characters were also very sweet moments in the story, especially Chiba's.
After reading, I can see why the BL Sommeliers enjoyed this story! Though the storyline is familiar, it's unique setting and fun characters make it stand out. As a last note, I liked the translation notes on Japanese driving schools at the end, which was a neat culture note. Thanks again to Kodansha and NetGalley for the DRC!

This was absolutely lovely, the way Yaotome went from a nervous mess to being confident about himself (to some extent) was a thrill for an introvert like myself. This story had everything I was hoping for when I requested this arc. From the characters to the plot I think it was executed perfectly. The art was amazing and a huge part of how enjoyable this manga was. Overall this was a perfect mix of feels and happiness, I can't wait for it be out and buy it physically!!!
Sincerely, Salma.

Who hasn't fallen in love with their driving instructor, asks Deme Kingyobachi in this light and sweet boys' love oneshot. While that feeling may not be universal, readers will easily fall for driving instructor Chiba, whose professional and kind demeanor wins his students' hearts again and again. Though Chiba normally avoids the romantic overtures of his students, he is pleasantly surprised by a newcomer: the bashful Mr. Yaotome, who needs to learn how to drive in case his cat becomes ill and needs to be taken to the vet. (Aw!) BL readers who are tired of working their way through the main character's crisis of sexuality just to get to the good part will also be pleased to know that this story gets right down to the romance - and the angst. Though recovering from past heartbreak, Chiba is encouraged by Yaotome's interest in him, at least, until he discovers Yaotome's secret profession. Don't worry, though, because My Instructor Won't Yield offers a refreshing break from angsty romantic tropes like miscommunication and the Return of the Ex, served up alongside classics like pining and a ryokan stay. An excellent choice for an afternoon at the beach or a summer roadtrip!

Thank you so much to Kodansha via Penguin Random House and NetGalley for this eARC!
This was an incredibly charming and gentle slice of life manga. I found it soft and soothing like aloe for my heart. I think if you LOVE slice of life the way I LOVE slice of life you won’t mind the pacing and you’ll get as much joy out of it as I did.
A handsome driving instructor takes another chance on love when he begins teaching a dashing, but wildly awkward manga author to drive. Together they cruise through the ups and downs of falling in love, each carrying a secret that may hinder their relationship....
Lately I’ve been choosing to celebrate manga (especially, BL Manga) that doesn’t totally revolve around miscommunication to torture the poor characters. While there is a little bit of low communication moments here and there, neither of these plot points are overly lingered upon and are resolved via ✨HEALTHY COMMUNICATION✨ and that is always a win in my book!!!
4.5/5!

This was really cute!
Chiba is a driving instructor who has sworn off love, especially with his students. However, his pretty face and charismatic personality make it easy for most of his students to fall in love with him. Still, he is put to the test when he meets Yaotome.
I truly loved how honest both characters were. Yaotome was shy yet honest about his career and hobbies as an Otaku (I absolutely adore him wearing his anime shirt to the convenience store!) and Chiba was so great at setting his boundaries and expressing his feelings. I admire how quickly both were able to resolve their issues by having conversations they might have felt uncomfortable having. Overall, it was just a really wholesome yet quick read!

This was such a cute, fun manga! Everyone thinks the two main characters are suave and perfect, but they’re actually kind of a mess, which makes watching them interact so much fun. I only wish this were a little longer, so we got to see more of Chiba moving on from his past relationship, and more of Yaotome’s pov. They should turn this into a show, I would watch it immediately.

This was a very cute one-shot BL manga. I liked both of the main characters and enjoyed the set up of the one learning how to drive for his cat. I wouldn't have minded a bit more to get to know the chracaters a bit better, but I still enjoyed it.

In this cute manga we follow Chiba and Mr. Yaotome. Chiba is a driving instructor and Mr. Yaotome is a manga artist. One day they meet because Mr. Yaotome wants to learn how to drive. After that they start hanging out and Chiba discovers that his been Mr. Yaotome inspiration for his latest manga.
The manga itself was very cutesy and fun, however I believe that their relationship felt a little bit rushed, since they don't really know eachother that much.
