OVERALL RATING : 3.5 STARS

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for granting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed how both Yaotome and Chiba were somewhat unconventional love interests and how their personalities were not typecasted. Both protagonists were shy, bold and loving at different times and this made the story stand out compared to a typical BL grumpy x sunshine trope where the actions of each characters are more predictable . This made each of their interactions and actions towards each other more suprising and interesting. I would totally read this as a series if the author decides to publish sucessive volumes. Although not a groundbreaking manga, it was enjoyable, fast-paced and cozy read.

Cute and simple story about a manga artist falling for his driving instructor. Both men are in their 30s which i love just wish it wasn’t so rushed!

This was a cute and quick read.
While I found it predictable, I still had such a good time reading it and could not stop smiling and how sweet the characters were. I would have loved more romantic scenes between the main characters, more dates, more time spent together.
The art style was really pleasant and I would like to read more from this author.

Oh boy, this was too cute. Drive instructor Chiba always avoids having female students to avoid misunderstandings, but then he meets Yaotome, a cold yet kind man that is too scared to drive.

This manga, a stand-alone volume, has all the right ingredients to be a person's comfort manga! It's soft, funny, binge-worthy, and so full of yearning!
I love adult LGBTQ+ stories, and this was such a joy to read!

Thank you, Netgalley and Kodansha!

Thank you for the ARC!

This was adorable! It had been so long since i sat and enjoyed a simple little BL romance, and man i gotta get back into it! My heart feels very warm and fuzzy now.

I will say, the pace was a bit too fast for me, as they tried to hit all the milestone of an usual romance manga in one single book, so everything moves at quite the fast speed, and the resolution of conflicts is the easiest i have ever seen (lol), but honestly if you don't like when manga drag a problem for an entire book, this is definitely the thing for you!

They kiss a little, and hint at the start of something a bit more, but never get into it which would have thrown me out a little with the rest of the tone, so yeah it was just a cute romance between two adults without smut, and man i loved it.

The note at the end about giving the drawing of cars to someone else made me laugh, because.. yeah!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review!

This was a sweet, quick BL read featuring Chiba, a charming driving instructor who’s sworn off love, and Yaotome, a handsome client with a secret. Their slow-growing connection unfolds behind the wheel, and while it didn’t completely stick with me, I still found it enjoyable in the moment.

The chemistry between the two MMCs was soft and believable, with a good balance of personalities—one being kind, confident, and empathetic, while the other is shy, nervous, and easily flustered. (We LOVE shy men, okay?) I really appreciated that both characters were respectful and genuinely kind to one another. In a genre where tension often comes from angst or miscommunication, their dynamic felt refreshing and healthy. That alone earned the story an extra half-star from me.

The artwork is clean and expressive, and I’d be remiss not to mention the cat. Yes, we only get a couple of glimpses of him, but I was obsessed. The fact that Yaotome wants to learn how to drive for his cat in his 30s?? Adorable. Give that man a license and a whole car.

That said, now that I’m reflecting on it a day later, I realise it didn’t leave a huge impression. It’s not that it was forgettable. The ending also felt a bit rushed, wrapping things up a little too quickly without giving the relationship enough time to fully land.

All in all, this is a soft, spice-free BL manga that’s perfect if you’re looking for something quick, wholesome, and low-stakes. It might not be a must-read for everyone, but if you’re already a fan of the genre and enjoy gentle romances with good vibes, it’s worth checking out.

It's been a while since I read a slice of life manga, and perhaps longer since I read a BL one, and I can't think of a better one to be the first after so long. I loved Chiba and Yaotome's characters, and thought they suited each other quite well as romantic interests, with Chiba's calm yet outgoing, reassuring and level-headed personality balancing out Yaotome's nervous, introverted otaku self. The story was cute, funny, the characters were well rounded and emotionally intelligent, and the pacing was done very well considering it's a manga; if another volume of this were to be available to request in the future, I will definitely be requesting it.

I loved loved loved this! I think the one-sided pining into mutual pining worked so well, especially as both main characters had moments where they got sentimental and had confessional moments of their own. I do think the ex-boyfriend conflict was pretty one-dimensional but it served its purpose so whatever. I also would have liked some more time with fleshed out side characters but how much we saw them does make sense for a standalone too.

It was cute, but I feel like there wasn’t enough progression in the relationship. It was kind of slow, and usually that means you get a good build up, but I didn’t really understand why they liked each other in the end.

This book was absolutely adorable. I'd never heard of this manga or author before, and I was so pleasantly surprised! It's got the perfect combination of romance, comedy, and character development for a one shot. I found it delightful from beginning to end. I'm a big sucker for the gap moe trope, as well as the pining going on here.

A very sweet story about a driving instructor and his mysterious student finding an unexpected connection--in more ways than one! I love how the plot weaves the two of them together outside of their lessons. This could have been a much larger volume and I would still have devoured it in one sitting!

Thank you so much to Kodansha Comics for giving me an eARC through NetGalley!

I love reading any type of romance story. So when I saw this one-shot, I knew I needed to pick it up. The cover is very eye catching and the title perfectly sums up what the story is about.
I really loved this story. The chemistry between the love interests was so cute that it had me kicking my feet. I just wished they had some more cute date scenes. I would definitely recommend this manga to anyone wanting a quick and easy read.

My Instructor Won’t Yield by Deme Kingyobachi, out next month, is a single-volume BL story with plenty of comedy and misunderstandings. The twists and turns of the two as they learn to talk to each other reminded me of a roller coaster, with various obstacles — including a past relationship, Yaotome’s work, and a trip away — placed in their way, but they’re handled quickly, keeping the story moving. My Instructor Won’t Yield is a fun read without a series commitment, a nice bit of escapism, with an intriguing way to keep bringing the two leads together.

This was so cute and surprisingly funny! Chiba is a driving instructor who's especially popular among the ladies. He's paired with his newest student Mr. Yaotome, who seems terrified to drive. The two end up getting closer to one another but Mr. Yaotome has a bit of a secret involving Chiba.

This was an adorable one shot. Mr. Yaotome was so awkward and endearing! I loved the characters and while the plot wasn't exactly deep it was highly entertaining. I do wish it was longer and a bit more fleshed out but I wish that about almost every one shot I read.🤣 It was a fun quick read if you're looking for something unserious with good art and two precious goofballs. I'd be interested to read more by this mangaka.

Thank you netgalley and Kodansha for the eARC!

During this I developed a habit of reading the MC’s name as chibi instead of Chiba BECAUSE he is so cute. This poor, sweet driving instructor is just so tired of being hit on at work, and little does he know his avoidance practice will actually put him next to his biggest admirer and ensue the drama that follows. Pretty low stakes, just a soft BL romance, an easy and entertaining read that made me smile. Very cute, I liked the art style a lot, and overall enjoyed the story.

This was so cute, but really short, I would have loved reading more about their romance. The translation notes at the end were a great touch, it's the first manga that I read with notes like that.

This was so cute!! The art was gorgeous and the story had so many ups and downs for a one shot. It kept me on my toes but the ending was so sweet, it was worth it. Lovely read, start to finish.

That was a really cute BL ! A little bit short tho.

I was fun, cute and a fast read but It is a bit unmemorable ? Like nothing in this story stood out much from other cute yaoi I've read. Nor the storyline nor the characters design felt unique but they were still cute. I think I will continue on with the series because It is definitely something that will be enjoyable to read !

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for allowing me access to an ARC in exchange for a fair and Honest review!

This was so cute! the art style is also great, I love a BL where i can actually tell the mmcs apart. As well I love the unique set up for this manga.

We follow Chiba, a driving instructor and his new student Yaotome. Yaotome is nervous to drive and secretly based a character in his manga after Chiba when they met in the past. This is a cute little one shot BL. The plot isn't super deep but hell yeah they actually communicate when they have issues. Overall this is a cute fun BL for an afternoon read. Would love to see more from this author.
