This book had me second-guessing everything, with three main POVs—none of them reliable. It constantly leaves you wondering what's true and what’s a lie. While the premise reminded me of *Gone Girl*, the use of multiple perspectives didn’t quite enhance the execution.

I was really hooked at the beginning, but about halfway through, I started to lose interest—mainly because not much was revealed, and the story began to feel like it was spinning its wheels. I kept waiting for a twistier, more impactful ending, but it didn’t fully deliver for me.

This was my first read from this author. While it wasn’t a favorite, I’m open to giving them another shot.

There was a lot of info dumping at the beginning of this book and I felt like a lot of unnecessary info dumping at the end to add words to the book. The plot overall was good and so was the character structure, but it honestly felt like not a lot happened in the book as a whole.

This story was decent. There were definitely some twists i did not see coming towards the end but the middle of the story felt a little blah to me. It reminded me of a frieda mcfadden novel.

a thriller thats done well brings suspense and excitement to the reader for being so. and as usual with her mastry Nicole shows us once again how she knows her genre. it was so good. and Nicole is a power house at doing this to us with her books. brilliant.
there is a theme at the moment a theme of thrillers where they love to leave you guessing. and like all trends of the moment they have to be done well to fit amongst the best. and this was done so well for me.
its those feelings of who are we trusting here? that characters, that one, the other one? can we even trust the author right now? and its delicious to feel that unease. that tension. those questions.
Lana is there to help people. as she takes on her new client Sandy she is ready to do just that. Sandy comes to her with claims about her husband.
so Lana does what she does and listens offering moments of thought and guidance. but as things go on there is something not feeling right. something tangling her into this without her being able to stop it or even understand why? then her client goes missing. just what is going on?
lines are being blurred on all front. and confusion is the major feeling propping up her thoughts. was Sandy the victim after all? things arent adding up.
this is a gripping and intriguing read. the themes are all there and you get to witness them being played out. there is a few messy characters coming to this book which creates uncertainty of what your reading and who your believing.
with the pov of this book you are truly bought in to the story. you are offered your own places to think and or be deceived.
another great book by Nicole. she truly is wonderful and most gifted author.

Twisty and Addictive—but Missing Just a Little Something

The Therapist by Nicole Trope delivers a tightly woven psychological thriller that kept me flipping pages and second-guessing everyone involved. If you enjoy domestic thrillers with multiple POVs and unreliable narrators, this one will definitely scratch that itch.

The story unfolds from the perspectives of The Therapist, The Patient (Sandy), and The Husband (Mike), each of whom has secrets, suspicions, and plenty of emotional baggage. Right from the beginning, there’s a simmering tension that builds steadily: Who’s lying? Who’s manipulating whom? And most importantly—who’s in real danger?

Trope does a great job of creating suspense and keeping you hooked with short chapters and quick twists. I especially enjoyed the way she peeled back the layers of each character slowly, making it hard to know who to trust. The therapist’s internal thoughts were particularly intriguing—she’s walking a fine ethical line, and you’re never quite sure where her true loyalties lie.

That said, the story didn’t land quite as powerfully for me as some of Trope’s other work. The twists, while satisfying, felt a little telegraphed, and I was hoping for a slightly more explosive payoff at the end. Some of the character motivations also felt a bit surface-level, especially considering how emotionally charged the situation was.

Still, it’s a solid read—fast-paced, suspenseful, and great for fans of Shari Lapena or Lisa Jewell. While it didn’t quite hit that 4-star mark for me, it’s definitely worth picking up if you enjoy a good psychological game of cat-and-mouse.

A brilliant book as always from this author, a fast paced psychological thriller which I found very hard to put down, just one great book.

Extremely well written with well described characters and the lies and deceit were there in abundance.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this fantastic ARC which is another of my top reads for 2025.

This was a quick and gripping read that kept me hooked from the start. The Therapist centres around a woman recovering from trauma, trying to rebuild her life while keeping her past buried. The story is told from a few different perspectives, which really adds to the tension as the truth slowly unravels.

Nicole Trope does a great job of building suspense without going over the top. It’s more of a slow-burn psychological thriller than a fast-paced one, but the pay-off is worth it. If you like stories with unreliable narrators, hidden secrets and a twist that makes you go back and rethink everything, you’ll enjoy this.

Would definitely recommend for fans of domestic thrillers. It’s not gory or overly dramatic, but it gets under your skin in a quiet, unsettling way.

I just couldn't get into this one! I usually love Nicole Trope but I was just never very invested in the story and it felt a bit predictable and the final twist fell a bit flat. It definitely won't stop me reading more from Nicole Trope!

A wild ride indeed!! I have read many of Nicole's books and just like the others I felt like my brain was on a rollercoaster of twists and turns.

Although I never really connected with the characters I still enjoyed the story. A definite recommend for sure

Thanks Bookouture and Netgalley as well as Nicole Trope for posting that she had a new book coming out soon. All thoughts and opinions are my own

3.5 ⭐️

I felt like this book was a little predictable in my opinion. I overall enjoyed the read. While reading it, it seemed like it was just a lot of thoughts from each character which almost felt to be a little too much in repetition. The twists at the end were good and I’d recommend as I like this author.

Everything by Nicole Trope is an automatic read for me and I’ve not once been disappointed. I’ve also never felt so gaslighted while reading a book!

I really enjoyed this quick paced thriller.

Lana is gets roped up in becoming Sandys therapist. Sandy is completely infatuated with Ben, Lana’s colleague so Sandy agrees to offer her therapy instead. She believes Sandy is in grave danger and crosses lines she never had before. But she must make sure Sandy is safe, what choice does she have?

If Nicole Trope writes it, I want to read it! The twists were somewhat predictable, but it’s still an enjoyable read. It was quick to get through and kept my attention!

This book was so fun and page turning from pretty much the start. We get multiple POVs giving you a really great perspective from all sides.

I truly couldn’t have guessed how this story would progress or end if I tried! I felt anger and confusion, frustration. It was seriously a roller coaster of emotions!

This is the second book I have read by Nicole Trope and they have both been 5 🌟 reads. If you like Freida McFadden, Nicole gives those same vibes. Super fun, faced past, earth shattering twists and turns!

Highly recommend. This was such a fun read!

Thank you to NetGalley, author Nicole Trope and Bookouture publishing for the ARC and opportunity to review this book.

It was an okay read and I am usually a big fan of this authors books. It was quite predictable in I pretty much knew how it was going to end the second we were introduced to the one character.

I felt that the author didn’t give us much in the way of a plot. We were told things happened in conversations with characters and not in a build up of a storyline. From someone who had studied and worked in therapy, it wasn’t very believable in the storyline we do get.

The ending felt rushed and lacked any real thrill to bump it up to a higher star read. The chapters were long and it felt very slow throughout most of the book.

Sadly, 3⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐⭐⭐½

The Therapist by Nicole Trope
A solid psychological thriller with a promising setup — but it didn’t fully deliver the punch I usually expect from her.

Lana, a therapist still carrying scars from her own past, agrees to take on a new client, Sandy, who claims she’s in a controlling and abusive marriage to a man named Mike. At first, Lana is just doing her job, listening, offering guidance. But as Sandy’s story grows more intense and disturbing, Lana finds herself emotionally entangled — until Sandy suddenly disappears.

Now Lana is caught in a web of uncertainty, and the lines between patient and therapist, truth and fiction, begin to blur. Is Sandy a victim? Is Mike the monster she described? Or is something even more twisted unfolding just out of view?

This had all the ingredients of a gripping read — layered trauma, unreliable characters, ethical gray areas, and a slow-building tension — but it didn’t quite stick the landing for me.

The pacing felt uneven. It started strong, but the middle sagged, and by the time the twist came, I’d guessed most of it.

I struggled to connect emotionally with Lana. Her narrative felt a bit distant, and I wanted more depth from her inner world.

The suspense was decent, but never reached that heart-pounding level I’ve come to expect from Trope’s best.

That said, I did appreciate the perspective shifts and how the story explored manipulation, vulnerability, and blurred boundaries in a therapeutic setting. The concept itself was interesting and handled thoughtfully — just not quite as emotionally immersive as I’d hoped.

Well-written and intriguing, but didn’t pull me in as much as her usual books. I liked the idea more than the execution. If you’re a fan of quiet psychological suspense with messy characters and moral tension, this one might work for you — just go in expecting a slow burn rather than a full-throttle thrill ride.

Thank you Bookouture, Netgalley and Nicole Trope for the Arc of The Therapist, all opinions are my own.

Yet another classic book from this author. Lana is a trained therapist and when her colleague asks herif she can take her case over from him she reluctanctly says yes. She can't work out her new client Sandy out. She says all these things about her husband Mike but when he comes to a meeting he denies it all. She will soon wish she had done things differently and that you can't trust people.
For anyone yet to read books from this author once you do you it won't be your last.

When a therapist's colleague asks her to take over a patient for him - due to what he claims is an unhealthy attachment on that patient's part - she knows that there is more to this story. But for some reason she allows herself to be railroaded into taking on Sandy, a patient who claims that she is in an abusive marriage and needs help. But is this the truth?

The story is told from multiple viewpoints and it quickly becomes apparent that Sandy's version does not add up to the full story. And while any therapist might consider herself to be the person best qualified to deal with a mental health situation, this one does not know what she has got herself into with this particular patient...

Nicole Trope delivers another psychological thriller with her characteristic twists and unexpected turns. This may not be her best book so far, but it holds the reader's attention quite effectively. It gets 3.5 stars.
