A brutal assault on a female sex worker in Amsterdam is the lynchpin of this fast paced thriller. Switching between various protagonists, there is a mix of good and bad with a few falling into that grey category in the divide.
But, to go back a step, you also have an estranged couple fighting it out over the wife’s substantial inheritance. As things stand, the husband will get nothing and that doesn’t sit at all well with him.
These dual scenarios form the basis from which the crux of the story hinges, that of a doppelgänger being mistaken for his lookalike. The chapters are pleasingly short and the writing itself is snappy but the story doesn’t feel cohesive. Switching between characters is fine but I couldn’t keep tabs on who was real and who was an imposter. That might just be on me.
