“Rachel’s Song”, by Carol Voss, is a poignant yet heartwarming and hopeful story about two people who were high school sweethearts and now both face uncertainty and challenges in their lives.
The author’s slow revealing of Patrick’s situation, making a very limited delivery of information and making us, readers, watch his issues and its devastating and pervading effects through the hero’s limited perspective, is amazing.
I was curious, intrigued and at some point knew it had to be serious, because of all Carol Voss’s showing.
I loved the romance between Patrick and Rachel in their youth and how it translates to the present, with fears, doubts, pain, and wariness. With sincerity, too.
I also loved these two as individuals who separated, have gone through so much and get committed again.
I really liked watching Patrick overcome his distrust and the lack of confidence and self-worth.
Watching them doing things together and talking was great, too.
I also liked the secondary characters, the relationships and interactions. The love and support is wonderful.
