When the parent is more jacked up mentally than the child, throw in some “unfriendly competition” this is a true recipe for disaster! These dance moms did not come to play & this story between Valerie & her daughter Kate, and best friend turned rivals Elise & her daughter Colette, was definitely a wild ride. I enjoyed the multiple POVs as it was a nice touch to see this story unfold in first person from the different characters & it definitely kept you anticipating what’s next. I really enjoyed the narration in this audiobook, Ann Marie Gideon did a phenomenal job bringing life to these characters.
Elise absolutely worked my last nerve, and I felt bad for Colette as she dealt with her mom’s obsession to live vicariously through her. You could feel the emotional turmoil Colette endured while trying to keep her mom happy. I admired Valerie as she tried her best to navigate through teenage hormones, as a working single parent. I was rooting for her the whole time and truly wanted her & Kate’s relationship to improve and see them love on each other. Overall a solid & enjoyable read & would recommend this one!
Thank you Brilliance Publishing & Audio and NetGalley for this advanced listening copy. All opinions are my own.

This is not your typical sports thriller! The storyline shows different aspects of competitive sports and the perspectives of parents, coaches, and athletes—which can be polarizing. There was so much drama and angst amongst the characters with some truly wicked thinking! Talk about helicopter parenting! Tension was building throughout the book, and I knew something was going to happen but I didn’t know how or who would be affected. When the shoe finally dropped, I had a pretty good idea about who was responsible and enjoyed seeing the twist reveal itself!

Jealousy can be a beast!
"What's Yours is Mine" delivers an intriguing blend of suspense and unexpected twists that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The classic whodunit premise is executed brilliantly, ensuring that just when you think you have it all figured out, another layer of complexity is unveiled. The themes of jealousy and insecurity are explored in depth, painting a vivid picture of how destructive these emotions can be.
The characters are well-developed, each adding to the web of mystery, making it hard to discern who can be trusted. The pacing is just right, with enough tension to keep you turning the pages late into the night. Overall, it's a gripping read that stays true to the thriller genre while injecting fresh energy into classic plot elements. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, this one is definitely worth picking up!
Thank you, Jennifer Jabaley, NetGalley, Brilliance Publishing, and The Pulse for the opportunity to listen to an advance audiobook copy. In turn, I am leaving an honest review.

Thank you to the author, narrator, publisher and Net Galley for providing an ALC.
This story follows an overbearing dance mom and her daughter. This mom is blood thirsty and will do anything to help her daughter succeed. Yeah, she needs a 'chill pill' (as we used to say). This book is full of drama that fuels the tension and problems of the story. There was less action and suspense than I expected, and it seemed to expect the reader to be entertained by the drama more than anything else. IT started off strong, then it faded as it went on. The characters are unlikeable and unreliable. IT wasn't a bad book, but I was looking for a bit more.

Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
I can see this as a TV mini-series. Basic. No surprises... quite predictable. BUT still entertaining enough to wait to the end.. to ensure what you predicted was right. AND it will be.
Determined daughters. Controlling mothers. There’s no such thing as friendly competition in a twisty novel of suspense about ambition, revenge, and unrealized dreams.
Valerie Yarnell is a hardworking single mother who’d do anything for her daughter, Kate. Kate is a dancer with dreams of stardom, just like her talented best friend, Colette. Despite Valerie’s sacrifices, it’s Colette’s mother, former prima ballerina Elise, whom Kate adores. And Colette has become like the practically perfect sister Kate never had. How can Valerie not feel frustrated, ineffectual, and a little jealous of the queen bee of dance moms? Not only has she hijacked her daughter, but Elise is married to the man Valerie pines for.
Rivalries are forming. Tension is mounting. In preparation for an elite dance competition, Kate outshines the more promising Colette onstage, and the pressure is on for Colette to keep her position in the spotlight—and especially to keep her demanding mother happy. Who could have foreseen the violent attack that sabotages everything? Anyone who’s been watching closely.
As ruthless and sinister ambitions are exposed, a media firestorm and an explosive town scandal erupt. Before it’s over, two mothers and two daughters will learn just how fierce and dangerous a rivalry can still get.

THIS WAS SO GOOD. Every character was so complex and yet stuck in their ways. The world of competitive dance has always been fascinating to me and this was an insane exposé of how unhinged unhealthy competition can make people. I loved Colette's character so much! She was the exact opposite of what I expected her to be.

What happens when your best friend is also your biggest rival - the one who feels like a sister? What’s Yours is Mine by Jennifer Jabaley dives deep into this complex dynamic through the lives of two teenage girls entrenched in the competitive dance world. But the real drama? That’s coming from their mothers.
Kate and Colette are talented dancers, best friends, and competitors. But it’s their mothers—Valerie and Elise—who add fuel to the fire, projecting their own feelings, ambitions, and insecurities onto their daughters. Valerie captures the heart of the story best when she says, “There’s an ambiguous line between love and hate, between friendship and rivalry.” As tension builds and secrets unravel, the question is will one competition destroy years of friendship and trust?
Though the story is set in the dance world, you do not need any dance knowledge to follow along. Relationships, secrets, and drama are the focus of the book. As I listened to the audiobook, my theories kept shifting with each twist - and just when I thought I had it figured out, the ending completely surprised me. It was a twist I never saw coming! It caught me off guard in the best way.
I give this book 4 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for a fast-paced, dramatic read that explores the messy bonds between friends and family. I had the chance to listen to the audiobook, narrated by Ann Marie Gideon, who brought the characters to life beautifully.
Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Audio for the advance listening copy!

This book started out so strong and then that intrigue faded as it went on.
This follows a very overbearing dance mom and her daughter. And this woman will do anything for her daughter to succeed. She majorly needs to chill!
This book is full of drama and that is really where the bulk of the tension and problems of this story come from. I wanted more actual action and suspense, but this story really replies on you just being entertained by the drama. And I can totally be entertained by drama, but you need to back that drama up with something else. The drama should culminate into more.
If you like a story with unlikable and unreliable characters, this is definitely the book for you. I can totally get behind a character that isn't easy to like, but I do like for them to have something redeeming or interesting about them, something to make me want to root for them and read about them. I didn't find these characters to have that thing that kept me invested. I think I would've enjoyed this way more if I could have gotten invested in the characters.
Overall, this was an entertaining read that I think a lot of people will enjoy. Personally, I just wanted a little more oomph to it.
Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is up and my TikTok (Zoe_Lipman) review will be up at the end of the month with my monthly reading wrap-up.

2.75 stars rounded up. I wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with any of the characters, and I found the whole thing to be very drawn out and predictable. I do understand why others may enjoy this book, and I still recommend giving it a chance yourself. The narrator was great! Personally, I just had a hard time connecting with the book. I may give it another chance in the future. If you want tension, dance mom drama, and rivalry turned potentially dangerous, I recommend checking this book out! Thank you NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for providing me with this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

i must be in the minority of reviewers, because jabaley's "what's yours is mine" was unfortunately a miss for me. i tried so hard to like this book. i kept hoping, "come on. surely it'll start soon", but the pace never exceeded a slow bubble, and not in the "psychological tension" sense. more like sitting and observing water almost boil for 300 pages.
the characters all feel like rough drafts: reactive, flat, and curiously childish for grown adults in a domestic thriller. everyone either cries, goes ballistic, or makes outright nonsensical decisions. and the POV changes? bumblingly done, often without forewarning or necessity. it did not feel like suspense but rather chaos for the sake of drama.
the final surprise had the weight of a shrug. i was speculating on it halfway through and holding out for a richer payoff that never came. at the end, it was a thriller that forgot to thrill—and left me angry instead of intrigued.
many thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the ARC, but i don't think i'll be reading from this author again in the near future.

I love a good twisty dance story and this one was incredible! I was hooked immediately and it kept me guessing until the very end. The character development was fantastic and Elise quickly became a character I "loved to hate." The Atlanta setting was a fun change of pace from most of the dance dramas I’ve read. Ann Marie Gideon was a fantastic narrator.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the free audiobook in exchange for my honest review. Ann Marie Gideon does a fantastic job narrating this story and making it a great read!!
Kate and Colette are BFFs and dancers in the same expensive company. Colette is the progeny of Elise, a prior prima ballerina and wife of uber wealthy attorney. Kate is the daughter of a single mom trying to make ends meet. When tryouts happen for a prestigious competition that will lead to agents and company contracts, things go the route of Dance Moms with the BFFs becoming rivals.
This is a fast paced story full of secrets, rivalry, and all the saga of Dance Moms. I really liked the story and found it engrossing with fairly developed characters and enough tension and twists to make me want more. I will say I found the side romance between 2 characters a bit hard to believe but otherwise, found this to be an enjoyable read!!!

What’s yours is mine, this is a fiction piece about the crazy reality of competition. How wanting to achieve the top spot, drives people to do everything to succeed

I really liked the premise of this book. I was a dance mom, and while I can’t imagine pushing my daughter like that, I knew some moms who pushed harder than they should have.

WHAT’S YOURS IS MINE was a relatively different kind of book for me. I haven't read anything about dancers and competitions, but this stood out. There was a lot of rivalry, drama and jealousy. My daughter was never in competitions like this so I never really thought about all the things that could happen between the girls, but here it was just one mom in particular. I think the author did a great job keeping me guessing. The twist was at the very end and I wouldn’t predicted it. The flow of the audiobook was great! I especially liked this narrator, I don’t believe I’ve ever listened to anything by her before. If you’re looking for something a little different than your average thriller, I think you’ll like this one.
Many thanks for my gifted ALC.

This was a fun, quick book to listen to. The narrator was great, the storyline moved at a great pace and I enjoyed the messy, twisty relationships between the dancers and their families. I do wish the ending was a bit meatier, but overall a great audiobook!

This was honestly way too long and drawn out/boring for me. Maybe I’m not the intended audience but it just didn’t grab my attention like I had hoped.

Jennifer Jabaley adult debut novel “What’s Yours is Mine” was quietly sinister and emotionally unsettling psychological thriller.
This story focused on Valerie, a single mother, who had sacrificed everything to support her daughter Kate’s dance dreams. Kate’s best friend, Colette, came from a more privileged background and was intensely pushed by her former prima‑ballerina mom, Elise, who was living vicariously through her. What began as a supportive, tight-knit dance-family dynamic spiraled into ruthless rivalry once both girls entered a prestigious competition for a high-stakes prize and recognition.
There were a few elements of Jabaley’s novel I was drawn to. One being how the narrative was structured. The story was told from multiple perspectives, including Valerie, Elise, Kate, and Colette. I also found the ballet theme engaging. Having been a former ballet dancer, I enjoyed this storyline. And lastly, I held interest in the gradual reveal of tension that built through escalating sabotage, mind games, and simmering resentments until a shocking act of violence forces the truth into the open. This made for a fast paced dialogue and added depth to the dialogue.
Jabaley’s strength lied within the stark differences between Elise and Valerie’s personalities-one being emotionally detached and manipulative and the other burdened and eager to please. This created an organic sense of tension between them. Furthermore, Jabaley fabricated relatable themes of motherhood and ambition with all the delicious drama that can happen between mothers, daughters, friends and competitors. This made for a compelling listen.
Overall, this novel blended psychological thriller elements with intense drama along with a sprinkle of the young adult genre and a sprinkle of the adult domestic noir genre. Collectively, “What’s Yours is Mine” was an unsettling look at motherhood, competition, and the destructive lengths people go to protect their dreams. I’d recommend this book to women who love domestic suspense featuring female rivalry, privilege vs. desperation, and twists grounded in emotional stakes.
A special shout out to the audiobook narrator, Ann Marie Gideon. I enjoyed listening to her tell this story. She had a clear, expressive style that brought depth to both tense and emotional scenes. I like how she differentiated each character by giving each character a distinct voice and emotional tone. Also, her pacing and diction made it easy to follow the narrative particularly with this story’s multiple characters.
A big thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the early listen—happy to share my thoughts!

4.5 stars rounding up.
Thanks to Lake Union for letting us get a sneak peak of What’s Mine Is Yours at The Pulse.
I have to be honest, I cover / title grabbed this one when it was offered to us over at @thrillerbookloversthepulse. I had no idea what it was about, so imagine my shock when the plot turns towards two girls in a dance company. I have never danced, I’ve never even wanted to take dance classes, but I have always been absolutely OBSESSED with the dance life. Something about the harsh juxtaposition between grace & beauty and cutthroat competition is so fascinating to me.
I don’t think any character in this book was completely innocent, but they all had moments of vulnerability that made me feel for them and want to see them succeed…yes even the worst one lol. I enjoyed getting both the teenage girls' perspectives as well as the adult women's perspectives. Themes of desperation, protection, desire and what we’re willing to do to achieve those things for ourselves or those we love.
I really enjoyed this book and had a good time listening to it, but it’s important to mention that it also touches on some heavier stuff that I find important. First, the mental health (and to a smaller degree, the dietary) issues that the ballet world can come with. It also touches on hereditary mental health issues, fractured families, generational lies, and rocky marriages.
I did have very strong suspicions as to the ‘twist’, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment at all. What’s Yours Is Mine definitely reads more like a contemporary fiction with a mystery plot rather than a thriller, but with the characters and story that Jennifer Jabaley presented us, I was as glued to the book as if it were a high octane, edge-of-your-seat action thriller.
