Fixed Asset Book 1 Down Range Series- Riley Edwards ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a page turner from start to finish. As Jack and Catarina cross paths once again their feelings for one another haven’t diminished over time, add in a challenging Op and a new team, Riley weaves a tight tangle of secrets, lies, deceit, espionage, unwavering friendships and love. From Honduras to Mexico, the team is racing against the clock at the same time as Jack and Cat are coming to terms with each other. The banter between the supporting cast of characters adds a lot of depth to this satisfying read, with a delicious teaser of what’s to come. Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review her work.

We met Jack and Cat in another series but don't worry you can catch up if you haven't read it. There was so much tension between these two characters. This author always writes such strong characters that somehow find a way to complement each other perfectly. Cat is always rushing into danger and while she can hold her own in any situation Jack wants to protect her. Jack is used to being the alpha protector, so it goes against his instinct to see a woman he cares about throw herself into danger. You're going to get a fast-paced romantic suspense that will leave you smiling that Jack and Cat finally found a balance that worked for them. You'll also get a glimpse into other teammates that I can't wait to dive into their books! You'll see some old friends in this book if you're a Riley fan and you'll get more insight into some mysterious characters.

This was my first Riley Edwards book and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm usually not one for contemporary romance (unless it's dark), but I do enjoy band-of-brothers type stories. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I fell into this world, and how much I loved the banter between everyone.
Cat is a strong FMC and I'd trust her with my cats' lives any day (my cats are more important than I am). I loved the internal monologues she had, and I frequently laughed out loud while reading. The camaraderie between these men was endearing, and I could feel the tension of the missions with Riley's storytelling despite not understanding some of the military lingo.
I will definitely read the rest in this series because I can't wait to see Mason's heart thaw.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Montlake Publishers for the ARC.

Fixed Asset is an action pack romance with lots of steam. Jack and Catarina’s story is a new series which is intertwined with others from Riley Edwards. Not having read the previous books, I can say I really didn’t need to, however I will be reading the others as I really enjoyed the book.

Fixed Asset is a page turner from the outset. The action is fast-paced, dangerous, edge of your seat, tension filled and suspenseful. Grab yourself a fan because the electricity arcing between Jack and Cat is white hot! The feelings they have for one another are soul deep and have been since they first met nine months ago. She's feisty, lethal, cunning and focused. And, a little too reckless as far as Jack's concerned. He is a warrior, a protector and a lover of all things Catarina Keys. But, she drives him crazy with her careless disregard of her safety. Learning to let her do what she does so well and trust her to stand beside him as well as having his back may just be the hardest thing he's ever done. The ongoing banter between all the members of the Downrange team will make you chuckle. Cat gives as good if not better than she gets. Becoming part of the team is a plus on so many levels for all involved. I look forward to all the different teammates getting their own stories. Riley Edwards gives us just enough tidbits of information that will have you wanting to know more of everyone's story.

If you want to check out military romance, Riley Edwards is the author to read FOR SURE.

Catarina Keys is a free agent on a risky mission in Honduras. Last year, after a successful op together, ex-Navy SEAL Jack Donovan thought leaving her was the right move. Now he’s not so sure. When they realize there’s much more to this mission than they expected, they have to hold their own together as the heat ramps up.

This is a fabulous military romance with just enough emotionality to hook female readers without becoming over the top. The story is complex, well-written, and intriguing. A little overly wordy at times, but that didn’t bother me. Edwards is a master at weaving strong military tactical scenes with moments of deep character vulnerability and connection. It’s absurd how often I cried at the sweet, tender moments between characters. Fair warning: this book is Spicy. Let’s just say the door is open, the light is on, and everyone knows what (or who’s) going down is loud and clear. There’s also lots of language. But the spiciness offers a pleasant contrast to the horror of sex trafficking that the characters are battling, demonstrating what physical love can look like when it’s shared and not taken. And bonus: Edwards has a whole series with connected characters in this shared world, so there’s plenty more to read!

✨ ARC Review ✨

This was an ARC read through NetGalley and I’m so glad I picked it up! It had everything I love—suspense, action, romance…all the things! Because let’s be real, romance + gunfights = perfect combo. 🔥💥

Catarina, our FMC, is fierce and capable with her strong military background, yet she allows herself to be vulnerable with Jack. I loved her strength, her heart, and especially her witty comebacks.

Jack is the ultimate alpha—torn between wanting to protect Catarina and needing to respect her independence. That push and pull gave such depth to their dynamic.

The story itself flowed smoothly, was well-paced, and kept me engaged from beginning to end. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series! 📚

I absolutely loved Fixed Asset! Such a great romance with action and suspense as well. 😍 Riley Edwards will always be one of my go-to authors when I’m in the mood for romantic suspense—I just adore when her heroes always fall HARD for the FMC. 💙

3.75 rounded to 4 stars

Since discovering this author a few years ago, she has become an instant click for me. I always appreciate the tie-ins with previous series and characters without feeling like it is just a rehash of their books. This author is great at creating a suspenseful action packed book with dynamic characters and funny moments of bantering between the various characters. However, in this book, something felt different. it wasn't as fluid, and at times, that lack of fluidity created a sense of disconnect. I never fully connected the way that I wanted/expected. This was disappointing considering the chokehold the previous series had on me, in particular the Takeback series. The jokes seemed stilted, and at times a bit cringey, in my opinion.

Having said that, Jack and Catarina were solid characters even with the disconnect. The problem with them is that I never truly felt their connection. It was more telling than showing, if that makes sense. What did work in this book, however, was the peek into some of the other characters and wanting to know their backstory. I particularly appreciated the times with Catarina and Mason, and the start of building trust and a friendship. My interest was piqued regarding Mason, and it is the main reason I am rounding this up to four stars.

While this was not my favorite written by this author, it was still a solid and quick read. Even though it was not my favorite, there were good moments, and the series will likely get better as it goes on.

New author for me but was quickly added to favorites. Loved the use of snark in the story. Jack is an operator that was set on teaching Cat a lesson. So he kidnaps her to keep her safe. But whose keeping who safe?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review

Fixed Asset is an action packed ride to locate and rescue a CIA Asset who is in deep cover. I love how strong, independent and smart Catarina proves herself to be. I love how Jack has fallen hard and intends to protect Cat. Their relationship is intense and true. I love Jack's team. The action and danger and suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat. I am so excited to have received an advance copy from Netgalley and the author. I can't wait for the next installment in this series. I need to know more about Calista for sure.

"WOW!!! this is an amazing book and you are an amazing author! characters are well thought out and presented. felt like I knew them personally. this story had twists and turns in unexpected places. loved the dynamics of the characters and the only negative... Mason didn't get his local chocolate. I thought for sure that would have been remedied by …Full Review

I'm giving this a 3/5 stars because it was a quick, easy read and there were elements of the story that I think had potential. That said, overall I think this book really missed the mark in a lot of aspects that make it something I wouldn't recommend (and a series I won't be returning to).

Eventually I became invested in the characters and the outcome, but the start was pretty rocky - this book would have benefitted greatly from a prologue when the romantic interests first met. After that, the pacing was all over the place - the progression of the relationship and when the plot action happens felt really scattered. I could tell the author was putting effort into setting up this new cast of characters, but it felt like too much time was spent on developing those side plots/'easter eggs' and not enough on actually fleshing out the relationship (the point of this romance book).

Another element that made this a miss for me was the heavy emphasis on military and equipment jargon and slang. I read a lot of romance but have no military or weapons background, and there were multiple sections in the book that had little to no meaning to me because they were so specific.

This type of story probably has an audience out there, and I can see the appeal of certain things. I thought the writing was effective in that I was relatively engaged throughout, it was easy to understand (aside from the specific military/weapons language), and I did want to see the characters together by the end of the story. Ultimately, however, this just wasn't for me. The execution of the plot and the writing style at times felt immature and not fitting with the characters or setting, and because of how battle hardened our characters were none of the scenes felt particularly tense or dangerous so nothing about this felt like a romantic suspense/romantic drama story (though the romance aspect also felt undeveloped).

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Phew, back and forth, touch and go. But basically Jake‘s team got Cat‘s back. Some of the characters were introduced in the Takeback-series which I haven’t gotten to fully read yet - so I‘ve been a little confused about this. Anyway, a great start to a series that in my mind has a lot of potential as the pasts of several team-members are mentioned but only a little to leave much to your imagination. I liked Jake‘s and Cat‘s character as they ignite each other. Great.

Loved this new book! It was perfect intro to a new series with a lovely interspersing of beloved characters of Riley’s other series. Cat and Jack have such a dynamic banter that leaves you laughing, sighing, and hot! 10/10 recommend!

I am obsessed with this book. I did not read the synopsis prior to going into it, and I was so excited when I realized this was a Special Ops themed Romance. This book had all the action of an Action movie with just the right amount of spice! I will absolutely read the next books in this series, as well as the prior series that are interconnected (Takeback Series) I HIGHLY recommend this one!
