I absolutely adored reading this book, a story of love, family and friendship. After a rough time, losing her granny, a divorce and redundancy can Birony find happiness again? Does the answer lie in her granny’s Giselles cottage in the south of France?

Newly divorced Briony is also made unexpectedly redundant by the auction house she worked at. Lost and no knowing what to do with her sudden spare time, after some convincing, she decides to join her mum in the south of France where her grandmother (recently passed) used to live. A new house, new career prospects and of course even a love interest are just waiting for her… If it’s true that we all love a feel-good book about second chances and reinventing ourselves, it’s also very difficult - or at least it was for me - to empathise with a main character that after a difficult few months in her life founds herself inheriting a charming cottage in the French Riviera and a substantial amount of money. I also found a bit too many side characters all with rather similar names that confused me a fair amount the first few chapters. A nice summer read, almost a fairytale.
Thanks to boldwood books and NetGalley for this arc.
Thanks

A charming escape to France read which intertwines 3 different stories; Lucy and Adam's attempts to renovate and make a success of an old farm, Adam's brother Elliott rebuilding his life as a french vet and Briony's life shuffle after losing her job, divorcing her husband and a suprise from her Granny Giselle.
This is an easy read, predictable in a nice way and engaging. The characters are like ale, the setting is picturesque and it's a great holiday read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for the chance to read this book . The story follows Briony after her granny dies she is left a cottagebin france . We follow Briony with all her trials as she decides what to do next . A good book

A French Inheritance by Jennifer Bohnet is a lovely contemporary novel and makes an excellent summer read. It is due to be published by Boldwood Books on September 15, 2025 and I recommend it because I thoroughly enjoyed my reading experience.
This novel centers on Briony who finds out that she has been laid off on the same day that her divorce becomes final. As she tries to figure out what to do, her mother convinces her that they should take a short trip to France. To add to Briony's misery, her beloved aunt has recently passed away. As it turns out, she has inherited some property in the French countryside and has to make several decisions in quick succession.
I really appreciated the focus on family, the theme of facing the past and embracing the future, the prominent presence of dogs, and the cozy vacation vibes of the whole book. While the timing of many of the events of the book were rather convenient and somewhat unrealistic, I understand how they furthered the book's message.
As mentioned, I truly enjoyed this book and would read from this author again. Anyone looking for a good summer read should pick up A French Inheritance.
Thank you very much to publisher Boldwood Books and the author for providing a digital advance reader copy via NetGalley for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

I was sad to leave this book as I wanted to read more about Briony and Elliot and the rest of the family. Briony is recovering from a bitter divorce when she loses her job too. To top it all of her grandmother passes away.
Briony and her mother are upset but have to go to France,to the village where her grandmother lived before she became ill.
The descriptions of France, of the farm and the chalets were just enticing. The lake and the trees and having picnics are equally so.
Lucy and Adam who live in the farm not far from the grandmother's cottage are a short while into a new venture of renting out holidays chalets and growing vines etc ,I would love to learn more of their story.
I always enjoy Jennifer Bohnet's books and this one is no exception .
My only question is ,when can I book one of the chalets on the farm ?

Following a bitter divorce, loss of her job, and the death of her beloved Grandmother, Briony finds she has been left her grandmother's house in France. She and her mother decide to move to live there, but will she settle and how will she earn a living? Befriended by neighbours in the nearby farm complex, she finds part time work, and gradually makes friends with local vet, Elliott, also recently divorced . A cosy read, ideal for holiday/wet weather reading .

A French Inheritance by Jennifer Bohnet is a warm, feel-good escape to the sun-soaked South of France. Briony’s character growth is satisfying, Elliot’s quiet strength is heart-melting, and Adam and Lucy add charm and depth. With themes of family, friendship, love, and second chances—plus gorgeous scenery and a few dogs—this is classic feel-good summer read.

Awww I adore Jennifer's books and, though I need to read her back catalogue, I look forward to the next one. A French Inhertiance is such a gorgeous, warm and comforting book set on the outskirts of Cannes.
Briony, at the beginning annoyed me, but she had such a character growth that you cant help but love her.
Elliot, aww he's been through so much and yet underneath it all he has this beautiful gorgeous heart. I wanted him to get his happy ever after.
Adam and Lucy - can we have a prequel about how they came to get the farm and how it came to become what it is today. I loved reading their story and wonder what the future holds for them and the rest of the characters.
Another fab Jennifer book that isn't to be missed.

A French Inheritance is a beautifully crafted story that blends family drama with a touch of romance and the charm of French culture. Jennifer Bohnet’s writing is elegant and immersive, transporting readers to the picturesque settings while unraveling secrets and complex relationships. I enjoyed how the novel explores themes of identity, legacy, and reconciliation with warmth and emotional depth. It’s a heartfelt and engaging read that stays with you long after the last page.

5 star read!!
I really enjoyed this novel—not just as a romance, but for how well the story unfolded within its world. The concept was engaging, and the way all the elements came together felt seamless and satisfying. The characters were well-developed and worked beautifully within the narrative. Jennifer Bohnet’s writing is strong and compelling, and it definitely left me wanting to read more of her work."
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

A heartwarming and touching tale about new beginnings in France. With vivid characters and family support, this is simply a delight to read. I enjoyed this book immensely.

I enjoyed this as a romance novel and how the overall storyline worked in this universe. I enjoyed the overall concept and how everything was used in this universe to tell the storyline. I was glad everything flowed together to tell the story and was everything that I wanted and enjoyed the overall fell. The characters worked well and was glad I got to read this. Jennifer Bohnet has a strong writing style and left me wanting to read more.

Briony gets made redundant from her job and decides with her mum to go back to Granny Giselles house that has been left to the family. She meets up with Adam and Lucy and makes friends with them. Adam’s brother Eliot is a trickier one to get along with. Briony’s Mum Jeannie is getting along with her life and reconnecting with her old friends too. This is a charming story and perfect to read. I hope there will be more to follow too.
Thank you netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I can’t fault this book. Read in one setting and I loved it. Set in the South of France. You have two damaged people from marriage, a beautiful setting, a fantastic brother and his wife, gites, family history, cute dogs. Just perfect. Escape and enjoy. Also a lovely ending .

This book would be perfect to take on holiday to the South of France, but was equally enjoyable in drizzly Yorkshire. It gives a lovely background of French culture as it tells the story of Briony making the move there from England. It has a good cast of characters of different ages, so someone for every reader to relate to. I love Jennifer Bohnet’s books, and this one does not disappoint.

Having spent time in the south of France in high school, I love any novel that transports me back there with its prose and this one did not disappoint
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wish I was a Jennifer Bohnet character is all I can say. Everything seems to work out perfectly and there is no issue with finances (there is usually an inheritance, as there is in this story). Also in this book you will find romance, fantastic scenery, and dogs! What's not to love? There is very little conflict. This is more of an emotional journey. Though some of my words may sound flippant, this is a great story. You know where you are with a Bohnet story. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a cozy read with a ton of French charm and heart. I loved the imagery of the south of France and of course the romance!

A French Inheritance, by Jennifer Bohnet, is a story about family, relationships, and second chances, all set in the South of France. This will be a great beach read! (Oh, and did I mention there are dogs?)
I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for providing the ARC ebook that I read and reviewed. All opinions are my own.
