🎧audiobook/📖 ebook dual read

𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: On the eve of her 20th anniversary, Elizabeth’s husband Don doesn’t come home. Police arrive at her door suspecting an accident has taken his life. Elizabeth is not convinced, especially after she finds a pager and a letter to “My Wife” in Don’s bedside drawer. Problem is, the letter isn’t made out to her, it’s made out to Corrine. This novel is about two women, their husbands and the truth.

✈️ Long con
💍 Family drama
✈️ Rivals working together

𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: I love immersion reads, especially when I get to say I enjoyed the audiobook more than the ebook. Narrator Tegan Ashton Cohan was great and perfectly executed the different characters voices and inflections. The writing was easy to follow and usually caused a compulsive need to keep reading. There were some lulls during the middle that seemed to drag on. I was pleasantly satisfied with the resolution and ending of this story- I did find the epilogue to be completely unnecessary and took from the superb ending of the final chapter. Add this quick popcorn thriller to your TBR! It’s great on audio and text, so your choice!

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Double Wife had a compelling premise—I’m always drawn to thrillers where double lives unravel into dangerous secrets. But despite the setup, this one fell flat for me.

The characters felt shallow and lacked meaningful development, which made it difficult to understand—or even guess—their motivations. I wanted to know what made these people tick: Why did the husband choose to deceive two families? What drove each character’s actions? But those answers never came.

Instead of immersing me in the story, the narrative relied heavily on telling rather than showing, draining it of suspense. By the time the ending arrived, I felt more disappointed than intrigued.

In a genre built on psychological tension and emotional complexity, this novel missed the mark. I was ready for layered secrets and slow-burning revelations—but the characters never stepped out of the shadows.

The Double Wife is a compelling thriller, brimming with unexpected twists and turns from the very first page. The novel introduces readers to Elizabeth, who is preparing to celebrate an early anniversary with her husband, Don — who, suspiciously, fails to arrive on time for dinner. Elizabeth stumbles upon a note addressed to “his loving wife,” which she naturally assumes is meant for her. However, upon reading it, she discovers it is instead directed to a woman named Corinne — alongside a pager, an item she hardly expects anyone to still use. It soon becomes clear that her supposedly devoted husband was leading a double life.

Elizabeth’s world rapidly unravels. The situation escalates when the police appear at her door to inform her that Don is dead, although his body has yet to be recovered. Confronted with betrayal and unanswered questions, Elizabeth becomes determined to uncover the identity of this other wife and decides to take matters into her own hands — perhaps unwisely.

This novel delivers a succession of well-executed twists that continually upend the reader’s assumptions. Just when I believed I had solved the mystery, another revelation would emerge. I found The Double Wife to be an engrossing and suspenseful read, and I thoroughly appreciated the unpredictable journey it provided.

I requested both the book and the audio version. I just gave my feedback in the audio version, but to summarize, the lack of urgency between the two wives, children, and the police made this a little less believable from the start.

Easy read for a long weekend. Found it a little chaotic at times but in the best way. I love a domestic thriller and this hit the spot. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I really wanted to love this book. It had all the makings of a page turner for me. A husband disappears on the night if his anniversary. The police find evidence that he went ice fishing and believe an horrible accident occurred, leaving the husband dead. His wife doesn’t believe it, as she knows he was nothing if not meticulous about safety. She begins to investigate and realizes he has a whole life and family she knows nothing about.
It fell flat for me. I never connected with any of the characters. And it became a little predictable at times. Not my favorite.

What happens when your husband isn’t just hiding secrets—but a whole second wife? Gina LaManna delivers a fast-paced, twisty domestic suspense that kept me flipping pages late into the night. Told through dual perspectives, this novel masterfully explores betrayal, identity, and what happens when two women discover they’ve been living a lie. The tension builds deliciously, and while some twists were a little dramatic, I was fully hooked by the unraveling truth and the unlikely alliance that forms between the wives.

If you love messy secrets, jaw-dropping twists, and strong women finding their voices, this one’s for you.

Two women living different lives in different states. Elizabeth and her two children are living lives of luxury with every need met. Corinne is barely scraping by, worried how she is going to pay for her daughter’s cap and gown for graduation. Their connection? They are both married to the same man, a man who has just gone missing. Did either wife know about the other one? Did one of them decide to take revenge into her own hands? Or are there other unexpected forces at work here?

Gina LaManna is an expert at developing her characters so that the reader feels like they are old friends. As the chapters alternated in the voices of the two wives, I too alternated in my support for them. I kept turning the pages, cheering them both along throughout the book and hoping they would find answers to this mystery and live “happily ever after”. Were they both the relatable women they seemed to be or was it all just a façade? Read The Double Wife and find out!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. My review will be posted on Goodreads today, and on Amazon and Barnes & Noble on pub day, August 1.

The Double Wife was full of twists and turns from the start. We meet Elizabeth who is getting ready to celebrate an early anniversary with her husband Don who is late to dinner. Elizabeth stumbles upon a note addressed to his loving wife, but when she reads it it's instead addressed to Corinne and she finds a pager (who even uses those anymore). She now starts to discover that her loving husband was apparently loving on someone else too. Things keep getting worse for Elizabeth, next thing she knows the police are showing up at her door informing her that Don is dead, but they haven't recovered a body. Elizabeth wonders who this other wife is and takes matters into her own hands, maybe not the best idea.

This book took so many turns, but in the best way possible. Just when you thought you had it figured out another twist appeared. I throughly enjoyed this one and the journey it took me along.

This book started really strong. Was a very good premise that held my attention. Also very easy to listen to/read as I did both. I just think the middle got a little boring and it took awhile for anything to happen. Could have cut out a few chapters in my opinion.

The Double Wife ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
On the eve of their 20th anniversary, Elizabeth finds a note in her husband’s drawer addressed “To my wife”. She opens it up, only to find the first line addressed to Corinne. Moments later detectives arrive at Elizabeth’s home to inform her that her husband is missing and there’s been an accident.

This thriller had me hooked from page one. It’s been a hot minute since I dove into a thriller, and this was the perfect way to drag me back into the genre. Every time I thought I had the plot figured out, I’d get proven wrong which I love in a thriller. The pace was perfect between the switching points of view at all the right times. While I normally I struggle with third person writing, this one felt like the right fit.

If you’re into unreliable characters, complex women, and juicy mother-daughter dynamics all wrapped up in a psychological thriller, this is for you!

A very charming little book that makes a great beach read for a long afternoon. It was a bit predictable in so many ways but still enjoyed it. Good luck with the book and thanks for the early read.

The book was ok. I think it needs more depth to really hook someone in. The last 20% of the books was where it did get better.

The Double Wife had strong potential, but something got lost in translation. If you’re drawn to twisty, character-driven suspense, give it a try—but be ready for moments that feel slow or underdeveloped. The writing shines in places, but overall, it didn’t quite hold me the way I hoped.

Accidentally inhaled this one. Paced perfectly. This man needs to get punched. I loved the execution of the story, how the plot developed, and how it continued to thicken. It was plot twist after twist. This is a must read for thriller lovers.

Jaw on the floor. This book doesn’t give you a break.

It gives me Freida McFadden vibes in the best ways.

I need to read all her books now. And get this one on my shelf. I enjoyed every page of this treat.

Thank you for the ARC! I appreciate the opportunity to leave honest feedback voluntarily.

The detail in this book is so vivid that I could swear I watched this story happen instead of just read about it. The plot itself has a lot going on, but, while a little unrealistic, it’s not difficult to keep up with and makes the story feel more unique than just a missing husband or secret second wife (why not both? 🤷🏼‍♀️) It was a little open ended, which part of me isn’t a fan of. I want to ✨know✨ not just think I know. But if an ending that’s up for interpretation is your thing, maybe you’ll like it. Either way, it’s worth a shot if you’re a thriller reader.

The Double Wife by Gina LaManna is a fast-paced domestic thriller that had me questioning everything from the first chapter. Just when you think Elizabeth’s life is picture-perfect, she discovers her husband has a secret second wife—and then he disappears. The mystery unfolds with twists, secrets, and shifting loyalties that kept me turning the pages. It’s a story about betrayal, identity, and how little we sometimes know the people closest to us. I found it tense, addictive, and perfect for fans of psychological suspense.
