' because she knows better. and so does the other wife' love this line! and loved this book. the premise and plot setup was getting me excited even before the read and the clever way of it only continued upon reading. i appreciate this book and author for keeping the BLAME to who it shouldve always been too. so often especailly sadly in real life this is missed and miss guided and we all know how...ugh.
from the cover, blurb and then onwards i was kept in a tense and exciting reading bubble for this book. that jittery excitement you get from a truly good thriller book is a wonderful feeling haha.
this story brings us a police visit to Elizabeth. her rich husband has done a vanishing act at the sight of a accident. This starts Elizabeth off because Don to her mind was meant to be at work. and this isn't the only thing stumbling her, because she finds a note to Dons wife. only this wife isn't referring to her in name but to some Corinne woman! so Elizabeth doesn't know what to believe. is her husband even dead?
she needs to know. she needs to know so many things and that is just what she sets out to do.
this is where we get to another level because now the two wives meet and agree to find out just what happened to Don. can they trust each other though? can we trust them?
the mysterious and brilliant plot points dont stop coming and i loved it. i was bouncing to keep reading the book and it paid off keeping me gripped to its reveals throughout.
i didnt know if was rooting for anyone but me as the reader in this book, haha. I HAD TO KNOW just what happened and how?
we all knew Don was a rotter. he'd been keeping two families. but i still wanted to know if it was anything to do with either family as to his vanishing act?
i like the way the Pov is done in this book to of course give the the two wives. it adds a layer of possibly thinking you are being lied to or wondering if this is just how things go when you get two peoples versions which can and do naturally differ.
a really successful piece of writing by Gina. authors should be truly proud of themselves. im in awe of what they do in their work. thank goodness we are lucky enough to read that talent.

A 3-star read, rounded to 4 because the author avoided misogynistic clichés, never blamed "the other woman" and presented Don as the love rat that he is.

Don, a man with more money than sense, is presumed dead after a freak accident in a lake. The police visit Elizabeth, presumably the "main" wife, who is confused because he's supposed to be at work. To top things off, that very same day she'd found a note from Don to Corinne where he referred to her as his wife. Elizabeth doesn't believe her husband is dead, so she embarks in her own investigation about who the other wife is. Weirdly enough, Corinne agrees to meet her and investigate Don's disappareance with. One day Corinne's daughter, Justine, disappears. Is her disappearance related to Don's? Is Elizabeth getting too close to the truth?

The Double Wife is told from the points of view of Elizabeth and Corinne. The story starts with Elizabeth but in reality it doesn't matter as she and Corinne are essentially the same character. I wish the author had given each wife a separate voice. On top of this, both wives are completely unrelatable -they both openly admit they got married to Don for money after becoming pregnant at around the same time, Don goes back and forth each family under the guise of business trips blah blah blah story as old as time.

As the story unfolds, we learn about who's behind Don's disappearance and what really happened. It's difficult to relate to or care about any of their characters. Elizabeth's main concern is Don's money. She's vapid and a grifter and drives a Porsche paid for by her rich husband. I couldn't care less about her and her marriage of convenience. Corinne is supposed to be a villian but there isn't much context around it. I kept anticipating cunningness that would make her a bit more interesting but it never came. I don't care about Don and whatever happened to him, good riddance! The other three characters, Elizabeth and Corinne's children, are essentially nonchalant about their father's fate. The mystery fell flat to me and the ending was OK.

It was hooked from start to finish there were many jaw-dropping twists. Prepare to be on the edge of your seat until the very end!

It was an incredible book so well written and extremely intriguing. I’d highly recommend this book!

One of the most gripping, unputdownable, nerve-wracking books that I have EVER read! It kept me on the edge of my seat I’d everyone to clear your schedule before you start it as I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down!

It was a ride. The book carries a suspenseful tone that keeps you wanting more from start to finish. The dual POV perfectly fits the “double wife” theme and constantly makes you question who’s really telling the truth.

It’s a relatively short read, and I think that worked in its favor. The writing is sharp and engaging, and it definitely makes me want to read more from this author.

That said, I believe the story could’ve benefited from a few more context clues, or at least a bit more involvement from the other characters. Nevertheless, it was a solid read with a strong storyline.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an ARC. I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

Elizabeth Bentley has sacrificed a lot to play the role of perfect wife to her highly successful husband. Until one evening, she finds a letter from Don Bentley addressed to his wife… and it’s not Elizabeth’s name on the envelope. Before Elizabeth can wrap her brain around the mysterious other woman, her husband vanishes on the eve of their anniversary. The police turn up at Elizabeth’s door, telling her there has been an accident. However, there’s one big problem: Don Bentley’s body is nowhere to be found! Good book! This book was a bit different for me?! It wasn’t really filled with suspense but it did have murder, intrigue, and a decent storyline! It wasn’t one official my all time favorites but definitely worth reading! It was a very interesting read! Thank you NetGalley and Lamanna books for sharing this book with me!
