Mia left the territory she had been living in after she broke things off with the vampire she had been seeing. But the vampire was controlling and didn't like the fact that she broke up with him, he wasn't about to let her get away with it. So after things start to go wrong, Mia knows it's her ex who is causing the problems so she moves to a new territory where she feels safer.

Mia is an artist and people love her art. At showings her art is always bought fast. Everyone is warm and welcoming except for the large, grumpy dragon, Tiber. He doesn't like humans much and she knows this for sure after hearing him say just that. What she doesn't know is that Tiber is her fated mate and now she has the wrong impression of him. Mia tries to steer clear of him but he seems to be everywhere she is so when he is tasked with making sure she has everything she needs, he takes his job more seriously when he smells her fear.

At first she is closed off about what is bothering her but when he gives her no choice but to be around him and shows her that she can trust him, that he's not as bad as she first thought, she opens up to him. He just wants to keep her safe and does just that. When her vampire ex shows up as a guest, that causes some drama but Tiber isn't about to let anything or anyone hurt his mate.

The more Mia and Tiber are around each other, the more their chemistry pulls them together until Tiber shows her that he very much doesn't hate her. These two are complete opposites but you know that old saying that opposites attract is right. This was a great story.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ancient Warlord
(Ancients Rising book 10)
By Katie Reus

This is my first Ancients Rising book and I easily read this as a stand alone. I really loved how Mia's cat Neptune and Ilmari bonded so easily. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

Mia is a gifted artist who came to Nova realm invited by Queen Soleil giving her a new audience to show her portraits. When the first meeting with Tiber doesn't go well as he isn't fond of humans however Mia is his mate so they'll have to figure out how to get along. But when a person/vampire from her past finds his way into the realm both Tiber, Mia and even Ilmari will fight to keep her safe from a relentless vampire.

Thank you to Net Galley, Victory Editing and the author for a wonderful book about Dragons and their realm.

3.5 stars

Ancient Warlord is book 10 in the Ancients Rising series and while I enjoyed it, there was just something missing for me. I loved being in the Nova realm with all the dragons and some who have never been around humans. So many new characters were introduced, and I hope they all get books. Now Mia is a human who has relocated to the Nova realm to get away from an ex that is causing trouble. She was a very sweet character, and it was hard to not love her. Tiber is an ancient dragon who recognizes Mia as his mate but unfortunately has been overheard not really liking humans due to them being weak. So of course, now he's on a mission to win his mate. I loved Tiber, he was so grumpy, and his dragon had me laughing out loud. I loved the dragonling Ilmari and how sweet and tender Tiber was with him. I though Mia and Tiber were a perfect match. Now, I wish the Charles situation wasn't over so quickly same with Fjola. These two incidences were the only exciting thing with this story because overall it was just very sweet and easy.

I am so happy to revisit the world of dragon shifters. This series takes place in the Nova Realm where Mia took refuge in. Unfortunately not everyone seemed to happy to have humans join their realm. Mia overheard dragonshifter Tiber insulting humans so they definitely get off on the wrong foot. As soon as Tiber sees Mia he realizes that she is his mate and has to make things right. When someone targets Mia, Tiber gets his chance to step in and prove to her that there's more to him than her first impression.

I love the series and getting to learn more about the Nova Realm and the people that reside there. I loved how much of a grump Tiber could be, but he was also a big protector and supportive of Mia. Also theres a new dragonling and those are my fav! I wish the suspense storyline was a little more fleshed out, but overall this book kept my attention and I finished it in one sitting.

I would absolutely recommend it and it has become one of my favorites so far in this series.

What happens when a grumpy warrior dragon realises that the little human he has hurt by saying she doesn't belong in their world is his mate what does he do He sets out to say he is sorry but in Tiber's case that means keeping Mia safe as someone tries to get rid of her The only problem is that he doesn't know what he is doing and swings from bossy to sweet to overprotective meaning there are some hilarious situations. Meanwhile Mia is trying to protect herself after a failed relationship with a vampire. This is a bit of a slow burn story with some great moments between the main characters

Poor Tiber. He just couldn't get his mouth and his heart to mesh. Everytime he tried to be charming and show Mia just how sorry he was for hurting her, he fumbled his words and made it all worse. But her protection was foremost and his over-the-top ways, while driving her crazy, also showed her just how honest his intentions were for making amends and becoming the exact person she could love forever.

This was an enjoyable story about mates coming together. What isn’t to love with a human artist with a fluffy cat falling for a fierce dragon shifter who is as serious as they come. This has some comedy, a little suspense, and romance all rolled into one.

I jumped into this world on book 10 not knowing it was a series and i still enjoyed this book very much. Great action and adventure. Romance was steamy and appropriate for the genre and not distracting to the plot and world build and other fantasy aspects. Dragons are always a win in my book. The magic system was quite enjoyable. I should pick up the rest of this series.

Tiber and Mia are so cute.
Mia overhears how Tiber doesn’t care for humans.
She takes that to heart and knows their “relationship” won’t go further than that. When Mia is in danger from her ex vampire boyfriend, Tiber takes control and puts her under his protection.
What Mia doesn’t know is she is his mate.
Any other male gets close and Tiber growls at them. Everyone except Mia knows Tibers intention. But Tiber has to keep her safe in order to mate her

A fantastic fast-paced romantic thriller! Loved the riveting shifter storyline and its compelling mix of action, suspense, and romance. A page turner with plenty of twists and turns and perfect pacing, written in a style that is straightforward and easy to read. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of this genre and talented writing.

Grumpy dragon shifter and fated mates? Yes please!! This was my first book by Katie Reus but it won’t be my last. This was an interconnected standalone book. Tiber is the grumpy cinnamon roll I needed.

Review posted to Goodreads on 7/17. Another review will be posted to my instagram (@beetween.the.pages) no later than 7/20.

He’s Bossy, Opinionated and Hers!

I was really excited to read another storyline from this world and it had everything I could want and obsess over.

A brooding, grumpy protective Dragon who gave his fated mate the wrong impression when they first met!

A much loved artist with a past about to drop back into her life.

Full of witty moments with lots of sizzle which was felt throughout this book, you won’t be disappointed with this fast paced entertaining read.
Add is some suspense and a baby Dragonling you’ll fall in love with (one of which I want) and wonderful secondary characters to give you an excellent engaging sexy reading experience!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love dragons! There I said it! This series has been phenomenal so far and this book is no exception. The characters, the setting, and of course all the dragons. Tiber is a beautiful, and strong warrior dragon. Mia is an artist and she is human. When she goes to stay in the dragon realm, despite first impressions, she and Tiber clearly have chemistry. He and his dragon half know she is his mate but he messed up by saying something about humans so he definitely had work to do. I love how strong and protective he is and Mia does too. Ilmari, the dragonling, is adorable and I would like one please lol.
I love this story and Mia and Tiber so much! I really enjoyed their journey!

Since the beginning, each book in the Ancients Rising series has been the perfect quick afternoon get away read that transports me away from my current reality for a short period of time. The newest installment, 'Ancent Warlord' is a wonderful addition to the series. A fast paced read with characters and realms that are familiar from the previous books. It didn't take me long to acclimate to the story and dive right in with Mia and Tiber. She is a laid back, carefree artist who is loved by everyone she comes in contact with and he is a too serious alpha warrior who has earned the trust of the realms royal family and the soldiers that he trains and leads. I found both characters to be easy to like and it wasn't hard to root for them to get past old hurts, to make peace, and move forward together.

Mia is 'just' a human, visiting the Nova realm from Earth. Having grown up in the bayou she knew about paranormal creatures long before the war the dragon shifters rain down on humanity. Her childhood wasn't the best. She had an alcoholic father who did nothing to support his family. At a young age, Mia was forced to be responsible and earn an income to help support herself and her siblings. Her close friendship with the Nova royal family allowed her the opportunity to spread her wings, expand her artistic talent, and spend an undetermined extended amount of time amongst the dragons in their home realm. Unfortunately, not all of the citizens in Nova have a positive outlook on the humans.

Tiber is deeply sorry for the things Mia overheard him say about the human race, especially since she is his fated mate. She refuses to interact with him let alone accept any form of apology. He is forced to watch her from afar, that is until she finds herself in need of protection. Of course the stubborn Mia does not readily accept Tiber's help but eventually fear for her own safety forces her to give in and allow herself to get close to the grumpy warlord warrior.

The story introduces a couple of new characters and allows us to get to know some less familiar ones. I am very optimistic and excited that there will be a continuation of this series. I am a great fan of Katie Reus's work and enjoy her other series. A new release from Reus is always a great day of reading for me.

I also want to add that this cover is beautiful. Very eye catching.

I've read a few of the past books in this and the other interconnected series, but it's been awhile. This book definitely stands on its own so you can jump in here. Mia is an acclaimed artist escaping a scary situation with her ex by accepting a long-term contract in the dragon realm. Tiber is an ancient dragon shifting assassin who puts his foot squarely into his mouth by insulting humans in general within Mia's hearing, then meeting her and immediately recognizing her as his fated mate. This puts him in catch up mode as he desperately wants to repair the damage his thoughtless words did, but instead finds himself utterly tongue-tied in Mia's presence.

I enjoyed watching Tiber stumble around trying to court Mia, while Mia remained utterly clueless as to his attraction and his intent. They were a cute couple. Although there was a huge power imbalance between them, it didn't feel like there was because Tiber was very careful to respect Mia's wishes and her boundaries. He never tried to overrule her and always respected her. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

I love this world and all the dragons. Especially the baby dragons who aren't shifters. They practically steal the show. Tiber was especially grumpy and he was pretty entertaining as he tried to make things right with Mia. And Mia was pretty clueless to why Tiber was so desperate to make things right. They were a cute couple and I enjoyed their journey.

OK, so normally interconnected collections aren't really my thing, but the synopsis sounded so good, I just had to give it a try. I was definitely NOT disappointed. This book is easy to read separately, with zero knowledge of anything prior. Mia is sweet but sassy and the anxiety rep spoke so deeply to me, it was easy to connect with her personally. Tiber is grumpy, but so fiercely protective of those he cares about. He is such a genuine and thoughtful guy. Ilmari. Oh gosh, what can I say? I need a baby dragon, that's for sure. The letters Mia writes are a nice addition and really highlight the growth in the relationship between the two of them. This is a quick and easy read that will warm your heart with a sprinkle of spice on top. Definitely recommend.
*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this e-arc!

I really liked Tiber and Mia. He’s only a giant mush for her and though she seems like a pushover in the beginning she is far from it. I enjoyed that Tiber’s actions, rather than his poorly choiced words, showed who he really was to Mia. Fun story and world.

Dragons, vampires, adventure, and an adorable baby dragon! I want one! Plenty of snark, banter, and slow burn sizzle, and some tense moments that really keep things moving. Ancients Rising is a great series, all can be standalone, but even more fun when you read them all!

A new book in the kingdom of Nova !!

When I learned there was going to be a new book featuring Katie Reus's dragons, I was SUPER excited !!! It's one of the first series I read by this author, so there's a bit of a nostalgic feel to it for me =)

We'd seen Mia in the previous books and heard about her story with Tiber, and I admit I was super curious to see how their romance would develop ... And I loved it !

The romance was both cute and sexy, the plot with the toxic ex was great, and I loved Tiber's clumsy badass side, which complemented Mia's artistic and cute side perfectly !

In short, a light and sexy paranormal romance that's devoured way too quickly ! For those looking for a summer romance with magic and dragons, I recommend it !

PS : I REALLY need a book with Prima !
PS2 : Of course I'm going to reread the entire series as well as the original series !
