Beautiful poetry. As someone who struggles with grief for a lot of the time this was everything I needed. Putting loss into words is always hard but this author does it perfectly. Thank you NetGalley for this arc ❤️

The theme in this poetry collection is loss and grief, and the individual poems felt so honest. I could identify with the themes and emotions, and the descriptions were so well done.

Quiet, reflective, and deeply human 🍂🕊️ These poems feel like sitting with an old friend—honest, tender, and full of little truths. A gentle meditation on life, aging, and what we carry with us.

This book is filled with poems about both dying and coping with death. Each one is more sad than the previous one. These poems are a collection of the true journey of grief and how that is different to everyone. If you enjoy sad poetry, this book is for you. It is a quick read and kind of a nice break from reading lengthy novels. It was not necessarily my cup of tea. But that does not mean that it will not be yours. I just have not read much poetry, and some of it I had a hard time understanding. However, I am aware that poetry is open for interpretation and is not always going to be black and white. So I kept that in mind while rating.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and Atmosphere Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book and dip my toes in a new style of writing!

There are a few poems that I like in here. But I am not too sure about quite a few of them. Maybe it is just me not being able to connect with the poems.

I enjoyed this poetry collection. The poems felt incredibly personal to Northrup, and yet were still recognizable as universal experiences for those who have experienced great loss. At times, I felt as if I were seeing a reflection of my own volatile emotions amid grief. The collection's mood intentionally fluctuates between anger, reflection, and appreciation, much like those grappling with grief.
Below are the poems that spoke to me in particular:
-Chair by the Window
-Making it Official
-In the Woman Cave
-Last Haircut
-Late-Stage American Hegemony
Thank you to Net Galley and Atmosphere Press for providing an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Some lovely poems in here, the type where different ones will appeal to you based on your mood and experiences.
Thanks to NetGalley and and Atmosphere Press for this ARC.

There is something in here for everyone.
The only thing we can guarantee in life is death, if you’ve ever known grief then there is a poem in here for you. And if you’re lucky enough to not know it yet, then it may help you understand the many shapes and forms it can take.
My favourites were In the Woman Cave and Daredevil

Thank you to George H. Northrup, Atmosphere Press, and NetGalley for this ARC!
⭐️- Worldbuilding/Character Development
I really enjoyed the way that the world was opened up through snapshots of the poet’s life. We stay in his perspective through each poem, the entire piece giving us explanation and beauty in the intimate moments of grief for each person in his life.
⭐️- Plot
This is a topic I know very thoroughly, and yet it’s still hard for me to access it, as the more I think about it, the more I spiral. That being said, the poet does an excellent job bringing a beauty to the mundane of every day moments, and connecting them to family and moments that not everyone shares in the same way.
⭐️- Writing
The writing is easily accessible, and written in beautiful prose. I think the quotes from other poets do well to serve what is trying to be conveyed, and only supplement the story.
⭐️- Personal Preference
It is difficult for me to fully illustrate what I want to say with such a deep topic like this, but I think this experience will help others understand how to cope and grieve in their own way.
Thank you again for this ARC!

Sad book for people dealing with grief or even for people to understand how others feel when experiencing grief .
As someone who is grieving finding peace in words instead of talking to others really does help.
Even speaking them out loud had helped ? Beautiful sad and raw .
Not enough books about grief and how is effects us individually not everyone cries screams some just delete emotions or mask,
I found this book grounding and hearing other people’s voices and emotions was nice to know I am not alone in my mourning .

Thank you Netgalley, Atmosphere Press, and George H Northrup for sending me this advanced review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
You need to be in a good headspace to read this book. It's full of grief, hospital rooms, death, and slowly moving on from the passing of a loved one. It's deeply emotional, and will make you think of what your own future can hold when the time comes. Some deaths are not pretty, or kind. Grief takes different forms for everyone.
