Another excellent read in the Australian set Martin Scarsden series. There is a lot of reading in this book, with multiple characters and different timelines but it is so worth the read. Plenty action, thrills and suspense kept my interest right to the end and beautiful descriptions of the Outback which I really enjoyed. A brilliant read right from the start until the end. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

This is the fourth instalment of the Martin Scarsden series.
After an attempt on his life at his book launch Martin Scarsden goes into hiding in the Australian outback.
A thrilling story full of action and with some great characters.
I really enjoyed this book and I didn’t want to put it down. I will be eagerly waiting for the next book by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Legacy is part of the Martin Scarsden series but can be read as a standalone novel. Hammer excels in bringing the unforgiving landscape of the Australian outback to life. There are quite a lot of different strands to the story but they are all pulled together to form a stunning conclusion. Wonderfully drawn characters and intriguing, twisty plot shows Hammer at his best. Do not miss this one.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Legacy by Chis Hammer is the fourth in the Martin Scarsden series of books.

I hadn’t read the earlier books, and it didn’t impede by enjoyment of this book.

The story quite literally has an explosive start with a shooting and a bomb exploding at his book launch for his mafia exposé. It’s believed that there’s a mole in the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), and it’s decided Martin should go into the Outback and lay low. But it’s not long before trouble finds him again.

I found the backdrop of the Outback, where neighbours can be 200km apart, really interesting. I liked the way in which the landscape was central to the story and the importance of water - the droughts, the rain, the impending floods and water theft.

There’s an interesting subplot to the books with a ghost-writer called Ecco invited to a grazier’s station to write a history of the farm. I thought some of the themes she uncovers in her research of the station really interesting and again centring on land and the landscape and also including dispossession and dispossession.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. This is the second book I have read from this author and have to say it was better than the first. A fast paced page turner read.

A twisty, turny thriller set in the Australian outback with the journalist Martin Scarsden. There is an awful lot going on and I lost the thread a few times. Could so many different people, crimes, red herrings, scams and threats be related? It does all tie up in the end but there is a quite an explanation heavy final chapter. But if you like a hot Aussie thriller this is for you!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of Legacy by Chris Hammer. As a long-time fan of the Martin Scarsden series, I was thrilled to dive into this fourth instalment—and it did not disappoint. That said, it also works perfectly as a standalone.

After a bomb explodes at his book launch, Martin is forced to flee to the outback, where he becomes caught up in a web of secrets, local tensions and long-buried truths. As always, Martin is a solid, relatable lead—introspective, smart and quietly determined. The plot is tightly woven and beautifully researched, with a strong sense of place that pulls you right into the dust and heat of rural Australia.

I also really enjoyed the Ecco subplot, which added depth and a fresh angle to the main story. With its engaging cast of characters, pacey writing and clever twists, this was a brilliant read from start to finish. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next one.

Outstanding. The descriptions made me feel like I was right there amidst the characters and locations. There are several different stories happening at once but they all intertwine and come together for a perfect ending. It is definitely a page turner and at nearly 500 pages long it kept me engrossed for several days. Nice to see Ivan and Nell pop up in the Scarsden universe, along with some other older faces. Some brand new characters too who are very likeable - it would be good to have them in future books. My favourite book to far by Chris Hammer. Everything is perfect, right down to the title Legacy.

I was very pleased to see there was a new Hammer book, I didn't even read the blurb.
So even more pleased to see it features Martin.
It opens pleasantly enough, but within minutes there's chaos , confusion and trouble following Martin everywhere.
Again.
Cracking read, that had me trying to piece everything together in all manner of ways, as each clue was revealed as the story unfolded.
On top of that he paints an unflinching picture of how brutal Australia can be.
Hammer is so very good at what he does, a definite autobuy author for me.

Legacy by Chris Hammer is another great book from one of my favourite authors. I’ve been a fan for a long time, and this one didn’t disappoint. The story pulled me in right from the start, with strong characters, a great setting, and a mystery that kept me guessing.

Just as the launch party for Martin Scarsden's new book about the mafia in Australia is about to get underway the venue in Port Silver has to be evacuated following a bomb threat. Shortly after the surf club is ruined by an explosion and gunfire is heard.

Martin leaves Port Silver and travels to the outback under an assumed. With press stories appearing which accuse him of fraud and other charges he is soon a fugitive from the police.

A fantastic read from start to finish, love this series of books.

Thanks to Netgalley UK, Headline and Chris Hammer for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
