this was a pretty decent kids horror. it was incredibly fast paced, kept your heart rate going and your blood pumping just from reading it!
you're never quite sure what is happening, all you know is you have to run and hide! and whatever happens, don't let the Itter get you!

I absolutely love reading middle grade books, especially if it’s either mystery or spooky genre. This was a relative fun book to read, was a bit younger than I usually read but for a child reading this I can definitely see where they would enjoy it more than an adult 😂

I’m always on the look out for good Middle Grade horrors, especially as we come up to October, so as soon as I saw this on NetGalley I had to grab it.
Adam and his best friend, Sol, go camping with Sol’s parents and right from the start Adam is disappointed as he had the trip sold to him as glamping…
This is far from glamping, and Sol snores!
Stomping away in a bit of a huff on the first morning with Sol in tow they eventually make their way through the mysterious mists to a hidden, walled town.
Another fun adventure from Christopher Edge which is the first in a new series and leaves us with lots more to find out, especially with that ending.
Who is running the Darkive, what more spooky things are out there, will you ever play hide and seek again?
Great read but just a tad too short for my preferences.
I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Christopher Edge has a real talent for creating thrilling, fast-paced stories. I raced through this genuinely creepy and terrifying story, desperate to find out what would happen next. The aptly named 'Fear Files', is the first in a brand new series that I predict will be hugely popular with fans of horror at my school. It's packed with strange shadows, weird children & a ghost town which should send you running for the hills. Throw in an abandoned fairground and you have all the ingredients for a downright chilling read. I felt completely on edge for a long time after finishing reading it. Perfect for fans of Jennifer Killick.

I am a huge fan of the author. His books never disappoint and this one certainly scares me. It is both a slow burner and a page-turner at the same time. The mystery is unveiled gradually in a steady pace, keeping readers on the edge at all times. I absolutely love this one. I am not using it in my courses only because it might scare some of my students a bit too much. Perfect for Halloween.
This could well be my favourite among the books written by the author.

An interesting (slight) change from Christopher Edge's usual Sci-Fi fare. I really enjoyed the suspense in this thriller and I'm sure my class will too!
The mix of settings within the village that Adam and Sol visit are classically scary and really well written, adding to the atmosphere.
The idea of a game of hide and seek as the basis for a scary story is novel and intriguing and does bring back the edge of fear felt when waiting to be found when playing the game.
Looking forward to reading this with my class in the coming school year!

Adam really isn't enjoying his camping trip with Sol and his family: what he thought was going to be a glamping weekend turned out to be a night or two in a dingy tent where he couldn't sleep. So Adam suggests walking to the nearby village which turns out to be no better as it's apparently deserted. But when he suggests a game of hide and seek to Sol, Adam gets far more than he bargained for.
Oh my goodness, this book is aptly named! There is something incredibly spooky about it that means fear and apprehension lurks at the turn of ever page.
With the book put together as the first case in Darkdive, a database for first hand accounts of unusual experiences, the book catalogues Adam's account of his game of hide and seek. I really don't want to give anything away so I'm not going to say too much more about the plot. What I will say though, is that I would hate to be in Adam's shoes; nothing seemed to make sense but everything felt so horriblly real and believable at the same time. I could feel my heart-rate rising just reading the book and the element of the unknown really does build the tension.
I love Christopher's books for the elements of science and the way he can twist plots to really make readers question their opinions and their understanding of what's happening, and Fear Files absolutely does this again. I finished the book just before lunch and I was still lost in Adam's world hours later, mulling over the events and trying to come up with an answer to what actually happened!
Publishing 25th September, Fear Files: Hide and Seek will certainly grip you and will absolutely make you think differently about a game you no doubt played countless times as a child. Perfect for fans of Dan Smith and Jennifer Killick, I'm already excited for the next book in the series.

I am a big fan of Chris Edge and his books are very popular in my school library. I thought this book was great, a quick paced, speed read, written in his usual engaging style. This is a clever story with enough horror for younger readers who like stuff like Dread Wood by Jennifer Killick. I will write a full review for the YA and Middle Grade section of Ginger Nuts of Horror in the autumn.

I enjoyed this book, I think its a good horror book for children with some good scary moments that aren't too scary.
I didn't like the main character for the most part but he does recognise at the end that he'd been a bad friend to Sol.
It had a bit of an SCP Foundation vibe to it with the case notes.

Really enjoyed this book, super quick paced, fast read, really intriguing story with enough horror for the intended reader, will definitely be reading the second book! Really well written!
