This was a very heavy book that I would not go into without a warning. It was difficult to read about these characters’ struggles, especially as children, as they had been through a hell of a lot.

I did enjoy the plot, and the way the characters built their relationship. They truly had a soul-deep connection.

Unfortunately, I think this book just wasn’t for me. The heavy themes were a little much at times and I didn’t build enough of a connection to the characters to truly care about their story. It felt like I was reading pain for the sake of it. I unfortunately ended up DNF-ing this book.

Thank you so much to Mia Sheridan, Little Brown Book Group and NetGalley for this arc!

I’m a longtime fan of Mia Sheridan and absolutely loved the last book Unwanted when I read it a few years back so I was incredibly excited to find out there was another installment!

Unnatural is much of the same kind of plot as Unwanted which is to be expected as the second in the series but this one had a bit more of a sinister twist for me,

This one follows Autumn - a woman who spent the first fourteen years of her life in a hospital for seriously ill children as a result of her mother being a drug addict - and Sam - the mysterious boy who she thought was just a dream as a result of the drugs she was fed every full moon…

There was a bit of a dystopian vibe to this despite being set in the modern world and it’s not usually my genre but I really enjoyed it! Autumn and Sam’s intertwined story was so heartbreaking to read about but I found the storyline so interesting! It also featured some of the characters from the first book which was lovely to catch up with them and see how they were getting on! Because of their inclusion I would recommend reading the first book before this one though for a better reading experience and to understand a lot of things referenced.

I really enjoyed this one! The pace was a little slow in the middle which is the only reason I’m not rating it 5 stars but I already can’t wait to read the next one in the series and hope we finally see the end of Dr.Swift?!

Received a copy of this as an ARC via net galley. Mia does it again I have never read one of her books and felt disappointed absolutely amazing.

Unnatural is a gripping, emotionally charged romantic suspense novel. If you enjoy slow-burn love stories laced with mystery, a tortured hero, and a heroine determined to uncover hidden truths, Mia Sheridan’s latest will likely deliver.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC of this book!

This book was a challenging read for me. Firstly, the book is written beautifully, the care that has gone into the characters is evident. I found it difficult to read at parts due to the ways the characters suffer in the book and particularly as children.

The connection between Sam and Autumn was so tangible - they were made for each other and are exactly what the other needs. I love reading books with characters who develop deep connections and this satisfied that.

Overall this book wasn’t the most comfortable read but the payoff for truly understanding these characters and rooting for them so much is worth it. I was left with a sense of joy and hope when I finished this book.

If you like very grounded love stories with serious themes, I would recommend picking this up!

the beginning was hard to read but it is so worth it to push past it to read the rest of the story!
Mia knows how to write, and she writes well.

After reading and loving Unwanted (it was my first book of yhe year!) I was very eager to read this book! I was fortunate to get an ARC!

I have to say it was difficult to start the book. As it was extremely difficult to read the horrific scenes happening to innocent children.

The book was a perfect blend of being dark romantic and a Frankstein inspired twist. A story of heartbreak, hopelessness, hope and so heartfelt.

My heart broke for Sam and Autumn. They suffered sooooooo much. Their chemistry was so touching. They are complicated but their connection was deep-rooted and raw. They are perfect for each other.

I had to stop reading many times as it was hard to continue with the pain that was inflicted on them. Much like Lucas and Harper (Unwanted) they both suffered so much in different ways and managed to get by, and when they found each other (again), their kindred souls united.

It was a story that broke my heart and then mended it back!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Unnatural surprised me in the best way.

It’s dark and romantic, with a Frankenstein-inspired twist that actually works and surprises you in the best way.

I loved the chemistry between the two main characters. Autumn and Sam are two complicated characters and their connection felt deep and raw without being over-the-top. They compliment each other so well!

For me, the pacing just dragged a little bit in the middle, and a few moments felt a bit too “easy” plot-wise, but honestly, this book really pulled me in and I was intrigued from start to finish. The author does a great job balancing between heartbreak, mystery, and hope.

If you like love stories with a darker edge, this one’s worth picking up.

I just want to say how much I loved Unwanted. From the very first chapter, I was pulled right in and could not put it down. Mia Sheridan has this way of writing that always hits me in the heart, and this one was no exception.

The characters felt so raw and real. I loved how broken but strong they were in their own ways — the pain, the healing, the slow trust building between them... it all felt so natural. It wasn't overly dramatic or rushed, just this beautiful, emotional unfolding that completely consumed me.

There were moments that made me tear up, moments that made me smile, and honestly, a few scenes that made me just sit there hugging the book. I’m such a fan of slow-burn romance when it’s done right, and this was exactly that — emotional, deep, and so satisfying.

Mia Sheridan has been one of my favorite authors for years, and Unwanted just reminded me why. I connected with it on such a personal level — the themes, the growth, the softness wrapped in strength. Easily one of my favorite reads.
