The Reluctant Womb: Life before Roe vs. Wade by Pamela Blair is an interesting and powerful read. This pertinent book is unfortunately very relevant in our current society.

The book begins by introducing us to three couples: Bonnie & Red, Rob & Claire and Leah & Lenny. All three couples find themselves pregnant but handled it in different ways. For one it forces them into an unwanted marriage, for another it brings a loss of sense of self and a trip to a mental institution and for the third, results in grief over loosing a loved one and an adoption.

The next part of the book, fast forwards several years, the babies from the first part of the book, now are in college, where they happen to meet and become good friends. The book then follows them over the next 50ish years, through their trials and tribulations and pregnancies of their own. Once again all three woman handle their dating life, sexual life and pregnancies in different ways.

I especially loved the discussion questions at the back of the book. They are very though provoking and would promote amazing discussions among friends or in a book club.

Thank you Pamela for working with NetGalley. I hate how this book, about the past is so relevant in todays climate, but so glad you are releasing it when you are. I think this book is a must read that will spark some much needed discussion. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

I loved this. What a fantastic debut. The length of time it covers was just perfect. I really felt I knew these ladies and wanted to be their friend. Would love to read more from this author.
