Comprehension Ninja: Inference and Beyond by Andrew Jennings is a fantastic resource for Lower Key Stage 2 students, designed to improve reading comprehension through a structured approach. The book includes 20 types of texts—poetry, short stories, and more—progressively increasing in complexity. It breaks down essential skills like prediction, summarising, and point-evidence questions, guiding students step-by-step. The focus on inference and summary questions helps young readers master these vital skills, while the variety of texts keeps them engaged. Perfect for teachers and parents, this book offers an accessible and effective way to build confident, competent readers. Highly recommended - I can't wait to use it when its released as a hard copy.

This book is packed with a wide range of genres to help children develop and refine their inference skills. The comprehension questions not only target different aspects of inference, but also encourage pupils to find evidence to support their answers, which there is often a gap in children’s comprehension skills in ks2. The carefully structured progression ensures that children are exposed to a variety of genres, enabling them to strengthen their skills in a rich and engaging way.
The book is user-friendly and easily adaptable, allowing for extension activities when needed. I was also fortunate enough to receive an ARC of the upper KS2 version, and it was inspiring to see the progression of inference skills laid out so clearly, in ways I hadn’t previously considered when teaching. It has given me valuable ideas for scaffolding comprehension and developing specific inference skills in my classroom practice.

An excellent addition to all class resources for new and experienced teachers alike. Easy to weave into weekly teaching and engaging to maintain interest. Another high-quality resource from Comprehension Ninja.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

I had been on the lookout for books such as Comprehension Ninja that would help our family in the next stages of the children’s education.
Being a fan of the Ninja book series, I had high expectations and all of them were met!
There is a good range of texts to read and sets of questions related to those questions about inference.
I would say this is also a good practice for adults, and I am considering purchasing copies for our elderly loved ones as brain teasers.
However, of course, the most suited audience are KS2, their carers, families, and educators.
The presentation is cool and balanced as in the previous books and the questions provide a good level of challenge.
