This is a mystery thriller with a twist- Margot, Bev and Elsie are three friends in 1960s LA who decide to investigate a string of murders of young women. However all 3 of them have one thing in common-they were themselves married to serial killers and they helped to catch them, despite feeling that they had been duped all their married lives,
Now another killer is on the loose and feeling guilty about their own husbands’ victims they resolve to protect other women that the new killer is targeting.
The premise for this novel was very clever and in my opinion it certainly lived up to its promise. I liked the three main protagonists- all plucky and brave but still suffering from their guilt that they didn’t see what was right under their noses when living with their exes.
There were several twists along the way- the book was very well plotted and the perpetrator, when revealed was a complete surprise. I felt that the book started at a slower pace when it was setting the scene but really picked up as the novel progressed. It’s definitely worth giving the book a bit of time to lay out all the strands of the plot and describe the main characters.
I recommend “The Secret Lives of Murderer’s Wives” as a five star read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.
