Somewhat true story of a man, his wife and her alligator? Okaaaaay. This was an enjoyable tale, think madcap comedy with a side-helping of true love. A man tells his wife that either her alligator goes or he does. Her response is, "I'll think about it". As they journey down to Florida, we see the two of them bicker and squabble while we also see how they will resolve their differences so that eventually there will one day be a Homer Hickam Jr who can write this book. A tale of Southern charm best suited to fans of Forrest Gump, this was a sweet little story for a quiet afternoon.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

This is a lovely book. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading it but it is a sweet little story which is greatly amusing. It is the story of Homer and Elsie, a coal miner and his wife who decide to drive to Florida to release Elsie's pet alligator! Along the way they get involved in an up rising, star in a movie, are involved in a bank robbery and adopt a rooster. This book is written by Homer and Elsie's son and is described as "a somewhat true story". Whether it is true or not it is a lovely read.

This is not the usual type of novel I like to read, but the "Big Fish" comparison drew me in. I enjoyed this weird story about two people, Elsie and Homer, who embark on a journey to bring Albert, the aligator home. During this trip they have various adventures, and meet some pretty interesting people, my favorite being Ernest Hemingway. I would recommend this whimsical and quirky tale to anyone with a hidden wish for adventure.

Cheerful and uplifting. The story is so charming-a story of home and imagination. I loved the use of fantasy in order to negotiate the marriage and the struggles of not quite feeling happy with what you have-a great way to encapsulate that sensation of unease with your blessings. The format started out feeling a bit odd (the author as a character in the book-a passive receiver of the story while also the active teller) but the charm of the story overcame that reluctance on my part.
