A working parent’s nightmare. The whole juggling act between providing for your family and being in the right place at the right time. It’s not an easy thing to do especially when your day job involved other people’s lives.

But on top of that nightmare is the press scrutiny. Nothing can prepare anyone for that. The lengths the press go to, the constant surveillance but for Julia the analysis of her every move and the accusations made sends her to a place no stressed parent should be in.

I was unnerved by the chapters involving the antagonist. They weren’t in the usual first person. They were told from almost an observer’s point of view. It unsettled me – I wanted to know who this Peeping Tom narrator was! It’s an unusual tactic for Lake to use. It was strange but in a psychological thriller good kind of way.

Having read Copy Cat, one of the author’s later novels, I had high hopes for this book. It didn’t disappoint in the slightest. I was constantly on edge, I really felt for Julia and her situation even when Anna reappeared. I’ve seriously enjoyed what I’ve seen from Lake’s two books and I want to read more from this author.

An author that is new to me. Found this a compelling read - fast paced and action packed. A definite page turner.

This premise sounded really good. But I have to be honest and say it fell flat for me. The culprit for me was obvious even though the reason why was a bit far fetched and I didn’t know the reason. I’ll still try Alex’s other books.
