I can't help but be a bit disappointed in this title. as I was so interested in the premise. Lorde is a hero of mine, and I was fascinated to see how the author would weave together her legacy with Baldwin's through a Buddhist lens. However, it kept falling short for me, never delving enough into any one topic to make it feel like I was gathering nuggets of wisdom for myself. I couldn't understand what the focus was: Buddhist teachings? the author's own life? or Lorde/Baldwin? I imagine that this was a wonderful exploration for the author's own practice in re-contextualizing these areas which clearly mean a lot to her in this way, however it felt more like I was reading her journals then a finished book. I couldn't help but wonder why should I care about her specifically, I don't know who she is and more of the book focused on her than I had expected. Also I felt like I was expected to have a firmer grasp on Buddhist teachings than I admittedly do, as she throws you in with very little explanations.
