I loved this, and I'm going to be buying myself a copy when it comes out to keep in my crafting library.
I found it very well done, and I definitely learned a fee things. I think this would make a great gift.

If you are wanting a little more stillness, a little more creation, and a little more time spent out in nature, then let me tell you about The Stitched Landscape! In here, Anna Hultin has given you everything you need to transfer the landscapes you see onto the fabric in front of you (minus the actual equipment, of course!) It covers the thoughts behind the art, what you'll need, stitches, templates, tips for observing and how to translate what you see into embroidery, and plenty of encouragement. I look forward to trying out some of the new things I learned, and to practicing embroidery with this book!

In conclusion: I really liked it! Definitely recommend to crafters and people who are interested in taking up embroidery. I would suggest playing around with embroidery basic stitches first to increase your confidence beforehand, but there is a good amount of information for beginners in here as well!

Thanks to Netgalley and Storey Publishing for the e-ARC!

I felt truly inspired by this book. I have only 'dabbled' in embroidery until now, but I have really enjoyed it and have been wanting to take it a little further. I love flowers, plants and nature, so this book seemed the perfect fit for me.
Before I go any further with the book, I'd just like to say how wonderful the author is - she makes you want to run out immediately and embroider everything! Her love for this art shines through, as does her kindness and awareness of the larger role that art plays in our lives, especially with our mental health. There is no judgment or pressure in her writing - just warmth. encouragement, and the acceptance that sometimes our art goes wrong.
But the thing that makes this book so special is the way in which Anna breathes joy into each step, elevating it above a simple step-by-step or how-to, to almost a love letter to nature itself. Just beautiful.
The book covers everything anyone could need, taking you through the entire process of creating an embroidered piece of art. It is an incredibly practical yet inspiring process that Anna encourages us to adopt with examples given throughout. There are also clear descriptions of all of the equipment needed, when you would use different items, and technical information where necessary
Anna also gives lots of hints and tips based on her own experience of things that she does or has found to work, and is as generous with her acquired skills as she is with the patterns and ideas in the book. There is no gatekeeping with her knowledge, and it is very appreciated. As is the index at the back to allow for speedier referencing of particular topics - this is definitely a book that I would return to again and again.
Thank you Anna for this truly inspirational book.

Beautiful embroidery work. I liked how it teaches you how to make a landscape embroidery of your own. Has a couple patterns to follow but mostly leaves the creative part up to the reader. Well laid out and written.

This is an interesting book, with lots of ideas. I think I’d prefer a hard copy, rather than the ecopy given to me by the publisher. I can see myself having a go at the techniques, but not sure I can replicate to the standard show.

Thanks to Anna, I'm no longer scared to attempt embroidered landscape pieces! She writes and presents the information in easily digestible pieces that make something that looks so complex and difficult, manageable and accessible to stitchers of all skill levels! Thanks, NetGalley!

This is a beautiful meditation on motherhood, and craft, and connecting with nature. I love that it includes not just directions on different stitches but thoughts on composition and color theory. It has some beautiful patterns but really encourages making your own from what is around you. I already know a few people who will be getting this as a gift

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have to admit that I already do embroidered landscapes that look quite a bit different from the authors, but I always like to see what other people are up to. This is a well laid out instructional guide for those just getting started on their embroidery journey and wanting to do more than their grandmother's old patterns (not that there is anything wrong with that). It teaches you how to structure your work and look at the land, how to make your piece visually interesting, and how to use more techniques than just embroidery. Overall, an excellent book for any embroiderer interested in landscapes to pick up. Also, I love the fact that it tells me exactly which numbers she used for her threads.

BOOK REVIEW: “The Stitched Landscape: An Embroidery Field Guide” by Anna Hultin

I initially requested this book to review because my 13 year old has been asking to learn how to embroider, but I had absolutely no clue where to start! I figured if I read it and learned how, I could help her learn!

I love everything about this book! I was immediately drawn in by the first few pages where the author explains how and why she got into embroidery. I love that nature has been the basis for pretty much all of her art. I feel the same way about how I create art as well. The author also encourages readers to experiment, try new techniques, draw inspiration from everyday things, and to remember that art is not meant to be perfect. That’s why it’s art. ❤️ The photos are absolutely gorgeous and help create a beautiful aesthetic for creating.

The book is broken up into 8 chapters which include:

⛰️Learning how to look at the land
⛰️Review what supplies you’ll need
⛰️Choosing Colors
⛰️How to finish a hoop
⛰️Detailed patterns for four projects
⛰️Tips for future projects

This book is very well made and I would highly recommend it! After reading it, I feel confident enough to help my 13 year old learn how to embroider!

I rate this book as 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion.

This is more than a stitch guide or a book of embroidery patterns - it is a work of art. While the instructions and patterns are wonderful, the inspiring way the author writes about nature was the real star for me, and the visuals are simply gorgeous. This book would be equally at home on my craft reference bookshelf or my coffee table art book stack.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this title.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy. The photographs in this wonderful book celebrate the author's love of nature and encourages the reader to learn how to observe the landscape. The author's background as an artist takes this embroidery book to another level. Not only does she explain how to start a landscape embroidery project using the correct thread colours, but she teaches the reader about colour theory and the elements of landscape art. The author provides essential information for creating a landscape whether you are using paint or embroidery thread. The gorgeous projects include detailed instructions for simple stitches that make the book accessible for beginner embroiders. For the more adventurous sewers, the author shows the reader how to use mixed media within the landscape. She uses paint, embroidery and collage skilfully to celebrate the landscape during the different seasons. I absolutely loved this book and will purchase a copy to add to my library. This book would be a welcomed addition to any embroiders' bookshelf.

Thank you Netgalley, Storey Publishing, and Jacob A. Pauwels for sending me this advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a really solid beginner embroidery book. The photos are gorgous and very clear on what to do. I love that it goes step by step from the beginning where you plan your project, to picking your design, choosing stitches, basics on color theory, and also great finishing instructions.

It also includes a bunch projects to get you started right away. I think most beginners could pick this book up with a handful of basic supplies and make a beautiful project.

This is a lovely embroidery resource on abstract landscape embroidery. It provides a clear framework for creating landscape artwork (sketch first, begin stitching in the middle ground, etc) and also provides an introduction to some basic art skills (how to anchor your piece around a horizon line, how to use threads of varying tones). As someone who does mostly detail embroidery, this was quite informative! This book would make a nice recommendation for beginner stitchers who may want to break out of using patterns.

I really liked that this book has a lot of pictures that illustrate the techniques that are being discussed and also lots of instructions. It would be a good book for someone who wants to try their hand at landscape embroidery. I hate doing that much satin stitch...takes up so much thread and it is a bit tedious for me. So while I appreciate this book and the work that went into it, I will probably not be using it as a guide for my future works.
