Helen Hiebert’s Weaving with Paper is a beautifully structured, inspiring guide that welcomes both beginners and seasoned creatives into the tactile, meditative world of paper craft. With clear, accessible “how-to” instructions and step-by-step visuals, this book makes it easy to get started with nothing more than paper and a pair of scissors, no loom required.

Hiebert goes beyond simple technique. She offers 30 thoughtful prompts that encourage daily practice, exploration, and creativity, while inviting readers to slow down and enjoy the process. Her guidance on tools and materials is thorough without being overwhelming, and she includes clever suggestions for repurposing everyday items, such as maps, postcards, old journals, and even holiday cards, making the craft sustainable and deeply personal.

What sets this book apart is the way it blends instruction with inspiration. There are stunning examples of paper weavings, along with profiles of artists who are pushing the boundaries of the medium.

The tips on how to be playful, reflective, and intentional with paper are a gentle reminder that creativity isn’t just about the result; it’s about the experience.

It is more than just a craft book; it’s a rich, creative companion for anyone looking to slow down, make with their hands, and connect with their artistic side.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was completely enchanted by the concept and execution of this book. Paper Weaving Projects is a testament to the fact that you don't need fancy tools to create something beautiful. Helen Hiebert shows you how to transform everyday materials—like old maps and postcards—into stunning works of art. The projects are fun and easy to follow, but it's the emphasis on a daily practice that really resonates. It’s an inspiring book that encourages you to be present with your creativity, and it will make you look at the paper around you in a whole new way.

A lovely papercraft book to educate and inspire! Explore the art of paper weaving.

This book offers accessible and thorough "how-to" explanations (with excellent photos and diagrams) and a variety of interesting prompts for projects, as well as interspersing beautiful examples of artists' paper weavings for inspiration and admiration. She also includes information on the history and culture of paper weaving, and offers tips and techniques throughout for how to be playful, creative, thoughtful, and reflective about working with paper.

As a papercraft artist, I would find this to be a wonderful addition to my book collection. It would also be appropriate for those new or curious about crafting, as it's welcoming and excellent for beginners -- or just for those who like to admire artistic and creative explorations with paper.

I didn’t expect a craft book to feel this inspiring, but this one completely surprised me. The moment I flipped through the pages, it felt like walking into a gallery — every project was both art and instruction. Helen Hiebert doesn’t just teach patterns; she opens the door to an entire tradition of paper weaving, blending history, technique, and creativity in such an inviting way.

The step-by-step instructions are clear enough for beginners, yet the artistry is rich enough to challenge more experienced makers. I especially appreciated how the book encourages both imitation and innovation: you can follow the projects as written or use the techniques to create something entirely your own.

It’s the kind of book that makes your hands itch to start cutting, folding, and weaving right away. A perfect pick for artists, crafters, or anyone curious about exploring a timeless yet often overlooked art form.

A beautifully created book filled with loads of inspiration and other artists' work. Hiebert offers a very accessible introduction to paper weaving but scaffolds the instruction from basic to advanced. She explains her beginnings to paper weaving from her 100 Days origin as well as the history of paper weaving. Loads of pictures, detailed instructions, ideas on everyday applications to paper weaving, and oodles of resources.

So many beautiful, intricate and inspiring paper weaves! Never realised there could be that much creativity in using the humble paper. The projects could also be used in so many different ways. Anyone who loves paper or just anyone who wants to start a new skill or hobby will find this book immensely useful. The step by step instructions with photos are really helpful, even for beginners. Lot of ideas too at the end of the book. Really nice book. Might try my hand at it though I could do with a lot less crafty things to do.

This book is a good combination of instruction and inspiration. If you just want to make projects from the book, there are plenty to choose from. If you want to get creative, there is a ton of instruction and theory here to start creating your own designs.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this title.

This was such an interesting book, I'm a weaver, and I never wove with paper, but I am definitely going to try a few things from this book
I plan on buying a copy when it's published.

This book was such an inspiration! I was mind blown when I saw the projects and featured artist's works. I decided to try a simple pattern and Helen Hiebert's pattern was surprisingly easy to follow. When you first look at these projects, it looks like you'll never be able to figure them out, but she breaks the shapes and techniques down perfectly.

It's a mixture of beautiful gallery of artwork, projects, patterns, the history and tradition of (paper) weaving. I love learning new art forms, I remember doing a very simple version in elementary school and I enjoyed it, but I truly had no idea the complex things that could be accomplished when weaving paper. Well worth a read!

Thank you Helen Hiebert, Storey Publishing, and NetGalley for this ARC, it was a lovely art book!

As a paper artist, I loved this book. I would definitely recommend to artists of all types, but it really would be great for those who work most with paper! I appreciated the history of weaving with photographs, the list of tools needed to craft with, the various techniques & methods! It’s just a great resource. I loved the prompts. Sometimes as an artist you do have the materials, but inspiration wanes. This book would make it easy to pick a prompt that inspires you and get to work, with step by step guided instruction. Excellent read!

I have never read a book about the craft of weaving with paper before and I am glad I did.
I used to love weaving with paper as a child, though it was better than I remembered and this book provides more sophisticated information and inspires the reader for making their art projects come true.

I love learning crafts and skills. This book introduces me to a new way to use up some leftover paper I have lying around the craft area. I do enjoy being able to use up leftovers and not wasting anything.

A fantastic book with ideas and pictures for reference and they also help to get your mind going with so many variations of weaving different types of patterns on the paper. This is definitely a book that would be great to have in the library. It is something that could be referenced often.

Make sure to keep the leftover paper so you can have fun with random paper weaving art all over the house!
