I literally just got back from yoga class and thought it might be a good time to jump into this book. I’ve been a yoga student for over a decade and have hundreds of hours of teacher training that includes reading many different types of yoga books. This one has more of an academic voice, scholarly and straightforward which I can absolutely appreciate. Because we’re talking about spirituality thoough it did hit a little detached. I’m also a non-fiction editor and realize the importance of studies and statistics but in this context it added to the whole academic clinical approach, which as written unfortunately made me feel entirely separated from the subject matter — and as a dedicated yoga student I suppose I was looking for more of a connection here.

This was a very interesting read. It was more about the fall of a religious era than yoga in the beginning. It was a curious read for sure though.

I chose to read this Spirituality in Yoga by Lee Majewski, because I have been rather active in Yoga practices, but I never considered the possibility that it was tied up with spirituality. This was a rather intriguing concept to me.

The book has a lot to offer from the perspective of someone who has no desire to be a teacher or the best Yoga student on the planet. One of the things I have always loved a bout the practice is the adaptability of the poses, if you can't do it the way the instructor demonstrates--there are variations you can do instead.

I thoroughly appreciated the wealth of information in this book and how carefully the author researched it.
