I am already a huge fan of the work of Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen - Sam and Dave Dig a Hole is one of my most favourite books to read aloud in school - so I was very excited to get this and had high expectations. This book is aimed at younger children than I work with and is very simple and I would say it doesn't have the hidden humour that their other books have, where the is often a mismatch between what the text says and what the illustrations are showing. This is no bad thing though and is more appropriateto the younger age group. I loved the gentle pace of the book, the muted Autumnal palette and the different things to spot that feature on multiple pages. This is the only one of the series that I have read but I understand that the others show the same scenes but during the other three seasons and I can't wait to see all four books together.

I’m a fan of Mac Barnett’s. children’s books and was very curious to see what he would do for a much younger audience.
This set of four seasonal books share his usual charming illustrations with a simple, repetitive labelling text to accompany each picture. The colour palette is subdued which is to be expected for autumn but was a little surprising in the spring book. However, all four books together will make for a lovely compare and contrast discussion with your favourite toddler.
Delightful and whimsical.

Thank you so much to netgalley and publishers for this ARC!
OHHHH this is my second one and I GET IT NOW. This is such a simple and effective way to introduce babies to seasons! I love the illustrations and I love how effective the different colourings are to communicate seasonal changes. LOVE!!!

Lovely board book evoking feelings of autumn through color and objects, perfect for lap reading. Recommended for babies and toddlers as well as preK programs.

This book is part of a set of four (one for each season) that together are more than the sum of their parts! Each book contains identical, very simple text, calling our attention to various things around a farm and what they look like in that season (a tree, the garden, the child narrator's hat, etc.) This very basic setup provides opportunity for a lot of rich observation and discussion, especially if the books are read as a set. (In spring the garden's plants are growing, while in the fall the garden, post-harvest, is a tangle of leftover plant matter. The wise old cat, however, perches at the windowsill whether it is spring or fall.)
Much of this richness comes from Klassen's art. Is Klassen the new Eric Carle? I think at the very least he is becoming as iconic as Carle to me. His style is so moody, so melancholy and desaturated, and yet so digestible and inviting at the same time. Even a single page of a single swath of color (representing the sky) is beautiful to look at.
These books are on the simple end, and I do think that one will get more out of them by reading more than one of them to be able to notice the contrasts and similarities. But simple is certainly not a negative for an early board book series like this.

This book would be a great addition to a preschool classroom. I recommend buying the entire series of seasons as a complete set. This team of author and illustrator have written a few books that won Caldecott awards.

Now I See Fall is a very short children’s tale (part of a seasonal quartetl) listing the things a child sees in the season. The art is very focused on individual items being observed, and done in a semi abstract style. The small number of words on the page can be a fun way to learn them and connect them with the images beside them. Kids are sure to want to flip back and read the rhythmic text again and again.

Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen have done it again!
These four board books are the perfect addition for any little bookworm’s library. The rhymes, the rhythm, and the perfectly straightforward text is great for young readers to listen, and learn words, or for new readers learning simple words.
I have one daughter just learning to read, and she loved identifying some words she knows, but also “reading” to her sister a story of her own creation based on the pictures.
Now I See Fall is perfectly cozy, and captures all the best things that make it the perfect season!

Great little book that introduces different seasons to youngest readers. I think adults will get a kick out of the illustrations as well and I can see the books being a hit with parents and teachers as well.

What a wonderful seasons series from a rock star duo Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. Deceptively simple and absolutely perfect.

(This is a review of all 4 seasons)
Mac and Jon are an unstoppable force. These board books might seem simple, but when presented together, their hidden complexities reveal so much space for exploration. You can feel the spirit of Margaret Wise Brown in the sparse text, and the images contain both obvious and subtle differences between each season. I also really loved the hats! I cannot wait to get these into the hands of families, libraries and early learning centers. An essential for all little ones.
