I enjoyed listening to this ALC provided by NetGalley of Dwayne Fields Exploring My Limits it is hard to categorise this audiobook, part memoir part self-help. part interview. Along ide recounting his own experiences Dwayne interview people who had been along for the journey with him. including Ben fogle and one of the young people he had taken on a mountaineering expedition
.
I particularly enjoyed the section relating to kayaking around Jamacia chronicling not only the highs and lows of this challenge but sharing bits of Jamaican life and history . which is a part of my heritage and though born in the UK I have had the opportunity to visit on of my 5 star memories is of night time paddle boarding and swimming in the glistening waters near Falmouth Jamacia
While this would be inspirational to anyone I feel that if it could be put into the hands of young Black youths it could help them see a different path for themselves, then society often projects today. That Path doesn't need to take them to the poles but be a path that says they are valued and can take any path they choice, be that art, science, music, sport ,world or even off world exploration whatever speaks to them.
As a black women and lover of the outdoors and wildlife I have at times felt it was not a space for me and while I am seeing more people of colour engaging in the beautiful British countryside. I like many of the voices in this audiobook continue to champignon the countryside as vital to all and believe that the accesses to it and the care and protection of it needs to be higher priority for our government.
I hope this audio book gets a wider release than the audible audio it is at present. I would love to see it a coffee book edition with colour photos of Dwayne and others explorations.

This is partly a story of a remarkable young man who managed to forge his own path in adversity, and guidance for other young people battling the same circumstances and challenges that he did. Dwayne tells his story of his childhood, growing up in Jamaica, then moving to the council estates in London, then getting caught up in troubles as a youth and then his incredible adventures in the outdoors, including the trek to the North Pole that started everything. He also has conversations with various people about subjects ranging from shared explorations, to strategies to help the youth of today. He is passionate about helping young people that also start in life without advantages by enabling opportunities and helping them find the courage to take them. He is the narrator and he does tell a good story.
