A few years after her husband’s suicide, Eva moves to a new town with her 10-year-old son to start a fresh life with a new husband. On her first day of work, one of her clients bears a striking resemblance to her deceased husband. This unsettling encounter unravels her, prompting her to delve deeper into the matter, convinced that it’s not just her imagination playing tricks on her.

In this thriller, we also follow the perspectives of two other women: Madison, whose partner is Eva’s presumed deceased husband, and Nicole, a woman Eva befriends upon her arrival in the new town.

All three women are connected to the same man, but only one is truly aware of how dangerous he is.

📚Eva - I sympathised with her because she truly didn’t know the man she was married to for years.

📚Madison - I couldn’t wrap my head around the logic of leaving a toxic marriage only to fall for a questionable individual who chose to isolate himself in the forest. She then thought she could somehow change him. Girl bye🫠

📚Nicole - I have no words. 🙄🙄

Every character in this book needed therapy!🫠(well, excluding Eva’s mother). The twists and turns made me curious enough to keep turning the pages, with certain revelations leaving me stunned.

I’m torn between giving this book a 3 or a 3.5 stars. While the repetition in certain chapters dragged the pace, the execution could have been better. I also had mixed feelings about how the story ended. Overall, it was an interesting one.

Wow, this kept me on my toes! Such a twisty thriller. I enjoyed getting the different POVs on the events that occurred and how it all came together.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one.

The reason behind everything was remarkably simple and straightforward. However, the machinations we go through to get to that point are overly convoluted.

I only liked one of our wives - the other characters in the book were kind of exhausting. I also didn't understand why our 10 year old boy talked like a mix of a 5 year old and a 70 year old retired college professor.

The book did keep me reading, if only because I was hoping against hope that there would be some good reason behind everything.

Didn't love it. Didn't hate it.

To say I was hooked from the beginning is an understatement! I devoured this book and loved every minute! Such a good read and just when you think you have it figured out, you don't!

When I saw this available I knew I had to request it, and I was lucky enough to get it! Thanks!

The blurb gave me "Gone Girl" vibes, so I was hooked before even starting. With the development of the story, I got more and more intrigued. The narrative is so good that I was able to feel all the stress Eva was feeling, and later on, when the POV changed to Madison, I was able to connect with her as well.

The twists and turns on the plot are very unexpected, I was surprised from the beginning and wasn't able to predict what was going on until almost the end.

This is definitely an impossible-to-put-down book, and it got me absolutely hooked from beginning to end. It is the first book from the author that I read, but it will not be the last.

100% recommended!
Happy reading! 🫶🏼

Another brilliant book from this author. Eva, previously widowed, moves to the coast after a whirlwind marriage to Zach. She leaves behind the memories of her former life with Hugo, who died by suicide some years prior. But as she settles into her new life, home and job, things start to unsettle her. Then in her first few days at her new job, a couple Madison & Theo, planning to marry, meet with her and she is astonished to be face to face with a man who is identical to her deceased husband. In the meantime she has made friends with local woman Nicole, who her husband Zach is acting strange around. Who is Theo? Why is Zach wary of Nicole? Told from different POV’s, this a a brilliantly plotted page turner. Highly recommend. Thanks to the author & publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Eva’s husband died by suicide 5 years ago, and she’s recently remarried. She and her new husband and 10 year old son are moving to start a new life, but on her first day at her new job as a wedding planner, her dead husband appears with his fiancée, Madison. Not sure if she’s losing her mind, Eva tries to find more information. Meanwhile, her new marriage is on shaky ground as her new friend Nicole drops hints her husband can’t be trusted. Later, we get Madison’s POV as her life exposes cracks.

There are a lot of suspicious characters in this one, and people suspicious of themselves! A fun, twisty thriller.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

Thank you for the ARC!
This book was amazing. I could not put it down and read it in one day. It’s told by different point of views and I had no idea how it was going to end. Definitely 5 stars !

This was a super fun (and twisty) read. Sometimes my attention span gets the best out of me and I struggle finishing books or I will have to keep taking breaks…

THIS ONE WAS THE OPPOSITE OF THAT AND I COULDNT PUT IT DOWN! I couldn’t get enough of this. 1000% RECOMMEND

I enjoyed the first half of the book but when the point-of-view switched from Eva to Madison. I quickly lost interest. Aside from minor details, it was mostly repetitive. The characters were unlikeable and I stopped caring. I continued reading just to see how it would wrap up but it just became ridiculous.

Solid thriller. A unique premise. I liked reading what was happening from several different perspectives in this case. I liked that it did not continually flip back and forth but was chunked in ways that heightened the suspense. The mood was mysterious and it kept me guessing. Well done! Review of ‘My Husband’s Wife’ by Carla Kovach, due to be published on 8 September 2025 by Bookouture.

Eva’s life is good, she’s moved to live by the sea with her new husband Zach and her son Caiden, finally leaving her sad memories of her dead husband Hugo behind her. She’s thriving in her job as a wedding planner and has a great new friend Nicole and her son Aaron.

Eva’s life gets turned on its head when Madison enters her life, planning her wedding to Theo, who looks uncannily like her dead husband Hugo.

The story is told from Eva’s perspective and then from Madisons, before their story’s merge with Nicole at the end when the secrets and lies are exposed, nobody is who they seem. Good character development and a strong storyline. A great dark psychological thriller.

I will also add I have downloaded The Next Girl to my Kindle which was included as the preview read at the end of the book! This was my first book by the author and I'm defintely interested to read more. It was a super fast-paced popcorn thriller that overall I enjoyed. The author did a great job with the multiple POVA (sometimes it can be too confusing). Didn't rate higher because I feel like the story could have used some depth.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel. Lots of tension and unceasing of secrets. It kept me reading, wanting answers.
The plot does require a reader's suspension of belief, particularly for how some characters are linked. A lot of coincidences!
I understand this is an ARC, but just in case no one has spotted it yet, twice the word 'curling tongue' is used. I think it's supposed to be 'curling tongs'!
Also, it's 'Heathcliff', not 'Heathcliffe'.
Pointing out to help not be pedantic.

Once again Carla Kovach brings another book which was highly enjoyable. What would you do if you thought your husband passed away five years ago but then on a day at your new job as a wedding planner one of your new clients walks in with your so-called dead husband. Not only that but also with a new baby in toe. Is Eva completely wrong, could this man just be someone who looks very much like him and the grief that you have been feeling masks your vision to the point you think you may be going mad?

This is the story with which we are presented. I would not say this is my favourite book from the author, I did think it lacked the depth that many of her other stories have but in saying that I went along for the ride and found myself turning the pages quickly as I wanted to see how it would all resolve.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy, all opinions expressed are my own.
