This colorful vegan cookbook is written by a woman who runs a British nonprofit that provides free vegan meals and cooking classes. The recipes are contributed by all kinds of folks who are involved with the charity. The dishes are colorful and international, with lots of photos but no nutritional information. The book also goes into the history of their charity, why veganism is good for people and the planet, how to set up your kitchen, how to start gardening and more.

The recipes tend to be plant based and not processed, with affordable ingredients. The flavors may take a little getting used to for folks used to ultraprocessed foods and the recipes do take a bit of time. Especially recommended for those who are plant based or want to transition to more plant based meals and those who enjoy international cuisine.

I read a digital ARC of this book for review.

Absolutely loved this read.

It’s very difficult to find good vegan cookbooks weirdly enough and I LOVE the pink cover. Had to request it. I didn’t think I would get approved.

I learned quite a bit from this book and need to buy it once it releases as my family is vegan and is constantly looking for good cookbooks.

Thank you so much for allowing me to read this one! It’s reignited my love for being in the kitchen. It can truly be so therapeutic, enjoyable, and you learn so much. Plus, having knowledge and control over where your food comes from and how to prepare it is amazing. All the knowledge in this book blew me away! I loved the images as well. This book just feels authentic and totally had my mouth watering. I need to make and eat these meals asap.

My biggest pet peeve with cookbooks is usually the formatting and art, and this one had my jaw on the floor. It’s so well done. Easy to follow. This is HUGE when referencing.

It’s also really comprehensive. Every tiny thought I had this book delivered on. Is it weird to say a book gave you chills? Time to get inspired in the kitchen again!

Thank you for this ARC! I appreciate the opportunity to leave honest feedback voluntarily.

This book is for vegans or anyone who is curious about plant-based cooking. It is not fully a cookbook, though it does have many recipes. It has interviews and anecdotes as well as educational info.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of "We Cook Plants" by Sarah Bentley. All opinions are my own.

This is a great cookbook. I love the focus and message. The overall design and cover is beautiful too.

A beautiful book that's so much more than a cookbook. It really looks at the part food plays in our communities and how we need to be actively involved in making that process healthy, inclusive, sustainable and joyful. Plus there are some incredible looking recipes in here. I'm excited to try them!

An interesting book, which included the history of the project, including the fact that the builders let them down and they had to get help, which they did, but they were two weeks late.
A lot of myths are debunked that concern plant based eating and I was really moved by them including the poor, such as pensioners and the sight impaired.
The recipes are great, and included Jamaican dishes.
So, five stars for this book.

I requested this book because I loved the cover and am a long-time vegan who is always looking for ways to expand my recipe base and cooking techniques. This book first met and then exceeded my expectations, and I recommend this for folks who participate in all different dietary options. You don't have to be vegan or anywhere close to get a lot out of this.

While this is a great cookbook, it's also much more than that. In advance of any recipes, readers get to learn about Made in Hackney (MiH), a vegan community cooking school. There are also tips on how to stock the pantry and fridge, what to grow and how, and why eating this way is helpful to individuals and the world at large. I loved getting to read about different contributors' experiences and approaches to food and community, too.

The real test for any cookbook is in the recipes. The images are clear and appealing, the directions are logical and well devised, and the recipes are nicely varied. I especially like the badge key that precedes the recipes. As a vegan athlete, I am all over that little pink barbell; bring me the protein! It's helpful to know which recipes best suit your needs in advance (that one pot marker is also a must). I haven't made anything yet (I JUST finished reading), but I immediately bookmarked about a dozen recipes that I know will be sure things just as a start.

I loved everything about this read, from the approachable recipes to the vibe of MiH to the informative but not pedantic presentation. I'll be going back to these bookmarks often and looking for more from this writer.
