Love the B-Side series that is a companion to Kaiju No. 8. In the B-side series you learn more about the periphery characters of the main series. In Volume 1 Hoshino was featured. He is the Vice Commander of squad 3 that includes Rio and Hibino. In Volume 2 Narumi. Narumi is a very talented young captain in squad 1 who is obsessed with video games and getting out of the boring duties of leadership. He lives for taking down Kaiju and speedrunning games. This is why he has been given the role of training Kikoru Shinomiya. Her training is now more important than ever. I won’t say anymore because I don’t want to spoil anything for readers and watchers of the anime series.
This series is full of terrific characters, has a uniques plot that is very engaging. Kaiju No. 8 is the best anime and manga series since Naruto in my opinion. I am a huge fan!

Kaiju No. 8: B-Side continues to be a good companion to the main Kaiju No. 8 manga, or for those who are only familiar with the anime. Volume 2 lines up with what's being featured in the second season of the anime so far. It was nice to see Shinomiya show off her skills in training, with additional commentary from Hoshina and Ashiro that shows how the Defense Force elite are all a bit unhinged. The Third Division's level of unhinged pales in comparison to First Division's Narumi. This volume shows his origin story in the Defense Force and it makes his shenanigans more tolerable. Overall this volume has violence that lines up with the anime but in black and white panels, so that brings down the gore factor compared to the anime where the kaiju innards are in color. I look forward to the next volume.

I'm am such a fan of the Kaiju No. 8 series and this B-Side spin off is just as good. I always love hearing more about the characters, the back stories just make you root for them even more. I will definitely make sure my library adds this to our collection. Hopefully we get more volumes from this B-Side series.
