This book captivated me from the very beginning! I have read several books where someone was in an accident and trying to remember what happened, but D.K. Hood kept the reader guessing and leading us down multiple different paths where we really struggled to know what separated the truth from the lies. I listened to this as an audio book, and absolutely loved the narrator (Kate Hanford). She did an excellent job bringing this story to life!
Jessie wakes up from a coma after being out for a year. The last thing she remembers is being in a car accident after getting into a fight with her husband, John. She recalls that she had her twin daughters with her in the car and desperately wants to know what happened to them. As Jessie starts slowly reclaiming her memory, she remembers that she was in a fight with her husband since he was spending so much time with his corporate lawyer, Rebecca. Jessie is really close with her grandmother and inherits the estate once she passes, with the stipulation that if anything happens to Jessie - her brother, Michael, will inherit the property to keep it in the family.
There are several twists in the book that really make us wonder what is really going on here. Is Jessie crazy? Is John guilty? Is Michael guilty? Is there some huge family secret Jessie doesn’t know about? There are so many questions! I knocked this a star because I didn’t like how “okay” Jessie was with her husband’s relationship with Rebecca. It felt really unbelievable that she just went along with everything. I’m a big sucker for strong FMC’s and Jessie just didn’t have that backbone I would have loved.
Overall - definitely one of my more favorite psychological thrillers I have read this year! The writing was great and the narration was excellent.

Firstly, thank you to Net Galley and Bookouture audio for an advanced copy of this book.
The Liar I Married by DK Hood is a twisty psychological thriller.
Jesse is the main female character and she wakes up in a bed hooked up to all these machines and finds out from her nurse that she had been in a coma for a year.
She had been in a terrible car accident. Jesse cannot remember much and each day, a little bit of her memory comes back.
She is married to John. They were happily married when all of a sudden John starts spending a lot of time with his corporate lawyer, Rebecca. He started working late a lot, having a lot of business meetings, late nights at the office and his job became generally more demanding. Rebecca was getting a little bit too close for comfort. This started to create a strain on Jessie and John's marriage, even though John insisted that there was nothing going on between him and Rebecca.
All in all, Jesse believes somebody tried to kill her (especially because she had a large inheritance) and to make things worse someone leaves her a note that she should trust no one. Jesse is trying to piece her memories together and figure out what happens.
The doctor orders everyone not to share details about the accident and so as time goes by things start to make more sense and it's up to Jessie to figure out who she can trust. At some point she even questions her sanity and feels like she's being gaslit (and so do I).
Can she trust John her husband? Can she trust her brother? Can she trust her nurse or her housekeeper or her friend Alex. I had a hard time taking breaks while listening to this book, Ijust had to know what happened next. If you're into psychological thrillers and who-done-its then you would love this book. I rated it four stars. #TheLiarIMarried #NetGalley

The Liar I Married by D.K. Hood is a masterclass in slow-burn tension that spirals into chaos. From the very first page, I was pulled into a marriage built on love, trust… and dangerous secrets. Hood weaves an intricate web where every small clue feels like a warning, every chapter adding another crack in a seemingly perfect relationship.
What I loved most was how the suspense simmered, making me doubt not just the husband but everyone in the story. The imagery (those roses on the cover are spot-on) perfectly mirrors the unraveling of love into something sharp and sinister. By the time the twist hit, I was left breathless, flipping pages late into the night just to see how it would all collapse.
This is more than a thriller—it’s a story about how far trust can bend before it shatters, and what happens when love becomes the deadliest lie of all.

Wow, this audiobook was pretty good. It had me on the edge of suspense for majority of it but overall it was good. I'm not really ones that do thriller I'm more of a romance type of person so this was definitely out of my range, but I genuinely enjoyed it.

Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture Audio and DK Hood for the audio Arc of The Liar I Married.
Narrated by Kate Handford.
This is the first book by D.K Hood and It won't be the last. They Liar I Married is a great psychological thriller and it will have you questioning everyone who resides within the storyline. Including Jessica, our FMC. Waking up from a coma after an accident, Jessica has to not only why had an accident but also why no one will talk about her life. And why is she being drugged up all the time. This story gripped me right from the first chapter and didn't let go until the end.
Kate Hansford narrated this book and she did a brilliant job of keeping the narrative exciting and engaging which complimented this book.

The opening chapter of The Liar I Married reeled me in straight away. This audiobook is fast, easy to follow, and the kind you could finish in one sitting. It’s my first read by D. K. Hood, and though I hear she’s best known for her police procedurals, she proves she can spin a psychological thriller just as well.
What a ride! With so many shady characters circling Jessie, everyone seemed to have a reason to hurt her. Most of them are unlikable, but honestly, that just made the story more fun. The narration was excellent, too. The narrator really brought the tension to life.
If you’re after an entertaining psychological thriller that keeps you guessing, this one’s for you. The Liar I Married is out now, so grab a copy.
Many thanks to Bookouture Audio for gifting me this ALC via #NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to listen to this one early.

Synopsis
Jessie wakes up from a coma, after an accident. Nobody will tell her what happened, so she has to piece it together herself.
The Liar I Married is written entirely from Jessie's POV, with 2 timelines present, before the crash and now after she wakes up. She has so many questions which doubles when she gets an anonymous note telling her not to trust anyone. She remembers her husband John staying late at working, meeting Rebecca and an argument on the doorstep. And someone trying to kill her? Is it her husband she can't trust?

I read this book in 1 sitting! I absolutely loved this book, I have nothing negative to say about it! I had so many theories as I was reading but did not expect where it went. That is not to say it was unrealistic and the twist wasn't plausible because it totally was which makes is so much better!
I could ramble on about this book but don't want to give anything away, as I think it's better to go in blind with nothing but the blurb!
I was so invested in these characters and in Jenna, I felt like I understood her emotions and wanted to keep reading to discover the truth along side her.
This was my first book by D.K. Wood and I am very excited to see that she has a very long crime/police procedural series out. I can't wait to start the Detective Kane and Alton series soon! I can't thank Netgalley, D.K Wood or Bookouture enough for this advanced readers copy!

This audiobook had me right there with Jesse, I felt like I was standing alongside her fighting for her sanity. What a ride!!
Jessie wakes up in a hospital bed with no recollection of what happened and how she got there. It seems like everyone is working against her and she quickly becomes frustrated and defensive. What happened with this accident? Why is her husband MIA?
As the book goes on, Jessie continues to get frustrated by actions of her loved ones. As things transpire, after a while, Jessie starts to figure out whats really going on and what really happened. And wow, the twists in this one will blow your mind.

ALC Review: 3.5 rounded up to 4
Jesse wakes up from a coma after a car accident... but she doesn't wake up in a hospital bed, she wakes up in a room in her late grandmother's house, and she cannot remember what happened. Soon, Jesse receives a note that reads "Do not trust anyone." But if she can't trust anyone, how is she supposed to find out what happened to her? And where are her twin daughters?
This is a fast-paced psychological thriller. You want to keep reading until the very last page. It has family secrets, betrayal, and you doubt every character.
I did not like the FMC and some of her choices left me feeling frustrated, and not sure the title does justice to the story.
The audiobook narrator, Kate Handford did a great job with the narration. She made sure to give each character a personality, so it was easy to follow the story without feeling like all characters blended together.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the advanced copy.

Absolutely brilliant! Kate Hanford is a fantastic narrator, and the story was SO gripping.
I'm usually excellent at figuring and out the plot twists, but this one kept me guessing all the way.
There were so many potential motives and I couldn't piece together all the lies.
I'll definitely be reading more by D.K. Hood soon!

The Liar I Married
D.K. Hood
I trusted him with my life. I shouldn’t have…
Waking up being told I was in a car accident that I caused, confused and with only snapshots of my life. My marriage was perfect until my husband John, met Rebecca…
“Don’t trust anyone.”
Now I lie in my recovery bed, isolated and with fragments of that night coming back. I beg John to tell me what happened but he insists I don’t try to recall any details, that it’ll harm my recovery. Then someone leaves a note; Don’t trust anyone.
‘He’s right of course. Going straight to the source is always the best way of discovering information.’
This is a fast paced popcorn thriller at its best. Easy to get pulled into its orbit and strap in for the ride. Twisty, suspenseful and diabolical.
I enjoyed the audio narration of this by Kate Handford. She did a fantastic job and was clear and concise in delivery.
Happy publication day, 22nd August.

I don’t love leaving a review like this, but I honestly don’t have a lot to say about this one. It was a fine read (or listen, in my case) — easy enough to get through, and the narration was solid. I didn’t dislike it, but it also didn’t leave a lasting impression. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend rushing out to grab it, but I also wouldn’t say to skip it. For me, it was enjoyable in the moment but ultimately not very memorable.

This was my first D.K. Hood book/audiobook. I LOVED it! '
A book where you question everyone, even the protagonist, Jessie.
Jessie has been in an accident and wakes a year later where she questions all of her memories and her past. Her biggest question, how are her twins? Are there twins?
Prior to the accident Jessie had found out that she inherited everything from her grandmother, even though there are many other family members. Her marriage is on the rocks as she believes her husband, John, has been cheating on her with a co-worker. She has befriended a man she really doesn't know much about. There are many scenarios of how Jessie was in her car wreck, but does she remember the correct one?
D.K. Hood does a great job of keeping you guessing the entire story while continuing to keep you engaged along the way. Kate Handford did a great job narrating this book.
Thank you Netgalley, DK Hood and Bookouture for the opportunity to review this advanced audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

D.K. Hood is an accomplished mystery and thriller author. In the very first scene of The Liar I Married, an engaging and thrilling novel, Jessie, John's wife and mother of twins, is caught in a horrific accident.
Written in her trademark simple style but rich in story and vivid descriptions of situations, D.K. Hood's writing is top-class and, at times, reminded me of Ernest Hemingway's vivid descriptions of things, places, situations, and human emotion. The plot builds right from the first chapter, not wanting to start from first gear like many other novels, which made my headphones virtually unputdownable.
Speaking of which, I must mention that the book's talented narrator, Kate Handford, makes the audiobook come alive. Her voice modulation makes each scene and chapter more engaging, making the audiobook much more attractive than I would have enjoyed a regular Kindle book version. Well, I haven't read the Kindle version, but I'm sure it would be as exciting as the Audiobook version. I look forward to reading more reviews in the days to come to see what other readers/listeners have to say about which version they feel is better.
Believe me, the ending is shocking and totally unexpected. I had to sit in silence for ten minutes after the book ended just to piece together what transpired that led to the explosive ending.
This twisty adrenaline rush is due to be released in a few days, and I am one of the lucky readers to get to listen to this Advanced Listening Copy. Thank you, NetGalley!

I was lucky enough to receive an audiobook ARC of The Liar I Married by D. K. Hood and there was so much suspense, drama and twists I couldn’t stop listening!
I was immediately drawn to the main character, Jessie, who wakes up from an accident and can’t remember the circumstances surrounding the incident. From an outsiders perspective she had the perfect life, but just below the surface are family secrets and a husband she does not trust.
The narrator read the story beautifully and contributed to the uneasy atmosphere created by the author, who drip-fed oddities and reveals in a duel timeline of before and after the accident.
I was really on the edge of my seat for this book and the ending was definitely a big twist I did not see coming!

I'm not sure if this perhaps just isn't my style of psychological thriller, but not only did I find this rather average, but it was in no way thrilling, psychological or otherwise.
I could not relate to the characters; while they were dreadful, they were also mundane. Jessie needed a bit of backbone, and what mother would swallow the story told about the accident, and just go along with it?
I had an inkling about the bad guy, but I have to add that, in my opinion, John was a complete and utter idiot, from the word go. In the end, the author tried to smooth it over and justify it all with a helpless shrug and boyish aw, shucks, but it was a bit too much, too far-fetched.
It felt as if there was nothing else to write about, so this had to suffice. Not outright rubbish or badly written, but the story fell a bit flat. I'm not familiar with D.K. Hood but I believe the Kane and Alton series is great, so I'll give that a go.

Wow. Just… wow. I thought I had this book figured out so many times, and every single time D.K. Hood threw in another twist that completely flipped the story on me. The secrets, the lies, the “wait, WHAT just happened?” moments — they just kept coming.
The writing is sharp and addictive, and the pacing makes it impossible to put down. I loved how the tension built steadily, and just when I thought things were about to calm down, something else dropped. By the time I reached the final chapters, I was holding my breath — and that ending? Definitely not what I expected.

I listened to The Liar I Married as an audiobook with early access thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and D.K. Hood.
I was addicted to this book – the kind of story that makes you carve out extra time in the most ordinary parts of the day just to keep going. I was listening while cleaning, shopping, even driving, because I needed to know Jessie’s outcome.
The chilling reminder of “don’t trust anyone” runs through the entire novel. You’re second-guessing everyone in Jessie’s life, especially with the secrets surrounding her grandmother’s will and the estate she’s inherited. That tension never really lets up, and it kept me on edge from beginning to end.
I also loved the dual timeline structure – Jessie’s present-day struggle to remember, contrasted with her life before the accident, was written seamlessly. The way her memories were pieced back together felt immersive and added so much psychological depth.
Suspenseful, twisty, and full of deception, this one is for fans of Shari Lapena & K.L. Slater. A very addictive thriller that kept me hooked until the final page.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Firstly thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for this advanced audiobook copy. This is my first book by the author and I was completely hooked from the first chapter. The narrator Kate Hanford elevated the story and listening experience. I’m not usually a fan of unreliable narrators but this was so gripping and twisty I couldn’t stop listening. This is up there with my favourite thriller of 2025 ao far!!
