WOW. This was my first by this author and I was HOOKED from the very first chapter. This book was pure suspense, kept me guessing (guessing wrong), doubting and wanting more after every chapter ended. Every time I thought I had it figured out BAM I questioned everything again. The twists were twisting I loved it all, the drama, tension and chaos. Absolutely a yes for me and will now be reading more of D.K. Hoods work.

This story starts off with a bang. A woman wakes up from a year-long coma, with fractured memories and an overwhelming sense that something isn’t quite right. From the opening chapter, I was hooked. The narration by Kate Handford was excellent—clear, emotive, and immersive, which made it easy to fall into Jessie’s disoriented world.
The pacing in the first half had a compelling urgency, like trying to remember a name that’s on the tip of your tongue. But somewhere around the 50% mark, the momentum began to slow, and I found myself less gripped by the unfolding mystery. I kept reading, still curious, but with a little less breath-holding than I’d hoped for in a thriller pitched with a “mind-blowing twist.”
While the premise held strong potential—amnesia, betrayal, paranoia—the execution didn’t always deliver on the emotional weight those themes invite. Still, it was a solid listen, especially if you enjoy unreliable narrators and suspense that simmers rather than scorches.
Who Will Like This Book:
• Fans of Frida McFadden-style psychological thrillers
• Readers who enjoy slow-build tension and character-driven mystery
• Newer thriller readers who like domestic suspense without graphic violence
Who Might Not Enjoy It:
• Readers craving rapid-fire pacing and jaw-dropping twists
• Those who prefer a multi-POV structure or highly complex plots
• Seasoned thriller fans who’ve read a lot in this genre and expect surprises that truly shock
The Liar I Married offers a gripping start and a strong premise, with moments of doubt, deception, and unraveling memory. While it didn’t fully land for me, it might just be the kind of slow-burn mystery someone else is looking for.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced listener copy of this twisty psychological thriller.

If you're a fan of Frida McFadden's books, this one is right up your alley.
Lately, I haven’t been in the mood for thrillers, even though they used to be my go-to genre. In fact, I DNF’d the last two thrillers I picked up around the 50–70% mark. So for this book to completely reignite my excitement for thrillers says a lot.😌
While it doesn’t have mind-blowing twist that you'd never guess, it kept me on my toes the entire time. I genuinely didn’t know who to trust, I suspected every character, even the main one.
The alternating past/present timeline added depth and kept me second-guessing myself in the best way.🩺
If you’re looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller with an engaging plot and twists, I’d definitely recommend this one. 🔪🌹
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC 🤗

The Liar I Married is a gripping domestic thriller that pulls you in from the first chapter and keeps you second-guessing everything. The story is told from the perspective of a woman recovering from a car crash, struggling with memory loss, and haunted by the feeling that something isn’t right—especially when it comes to her husband.

D.K. Hood does a great job building tension and slowly unraveling the truth. The pacing is solid, and the psychological aspects make the story even more immersive. I especially enjoyed how unreliable the memories felt, and how every character seemed like they might be hiding something.

While some twists were a bit predictable, the overall atmosphere and sense of paranoia kept me hooked until the end.

This had me intrigued to begin where the author built the suspense. The story unfolds in the past and present day. At the half way point I just found it predictable and underwhelming. I found the outcome very rushed after such suspense building. The characters were just ok and can’t say I really cared for them except for the main character. The narrator was engaging and did help to hold my attention.

3.0/5.0. Thank you to D.K. Hood, the publisher, and Netgalley for the ALC!
I wanted more from this book, but sadly it didn't deliver on the expectations I had going in. That's not to say the book was horrible, but just not the book I wanted after reading the description. We follow Jessie, a woman awakening from a coma after a car accident. Bit by bit, she pieces back her memories of her husband John (and his possible affair), her twin girls (who she isn't sure are real, depending on who you ask), and family mysteries that keep getting darker and darker.
I found the twist wasn't really something that was unexpected. I think the reason why is that overall, I didn't find Jessie to be a very relatable character. If she had just communicated better with everyone in the story, I think a lot of the problems she found herself in would have been nothing big (save for the biggest problem). Her husband, John, seems to undergo a personality change halfway through. Her brother confuses me in a similar fashion. And there are two subplots involving children that are too similar for me to find it believable.
I will say, the narrator does a great job hooking you into the story and the prose itself is great. The story was one I didn't want to put down, but it was just a little disappointing for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book.
This one hooked me from the first chapter and didn’t let go. I read it in record time because I had to know what really happened to Jessie. Every chapter pulled me deeper into the mystery.
The story gave me serious Verity vibes. Jessie wakes up from a coma with no memory of the accident that nearly killed her. Her husband is acting off, and her twin daughters are nowhere to be found. As the story flips between past and present, you’re left questioning who she can trust and what actually happened that night.
The pacing was sharp, the twists were wild, and I found myself doubting every single character. I didn’t trust John for a second. Jessie’s emotions felt raw and real and I loved how the author made you feel her confusion and fear.
If you love psychological thrillers with unreliable characters, buried secrets, and a jaw-dropping ending, add this to your TBR. It is fast, addictive, and unforgettable.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of "The Liar I Married." If you are a fan of Freida McFadden you will love this book written by D.K.Hood.
Listened to the audio version. The narrator's performance was great.
The story plunges you into the disoriented world of a woman waking up in a hospital bed. A nurse informs her that she was in a car accident and, shockingly, that it was her fault. Confused and struggling with fragmented memories, she can't shake the feeling that the crash wasn't an accident at all. Before the accident, her marriage to John seemed perfect. However, the arrival of Rebecca threw a wrench into their idyllic life. John insisted that Rebecca was just a friend, but the protagonist couldn't ignore the intimate moments she witnessed between them. Now, piecing together the events of that fateful night, she recalls John coming home late, an empty wine glass, Rebecca exiting John's car, and a heated argument on their doorstep. Desperate for answers, she pleads with John to reveal what truly happened. But he dismisses her concerns, urging her not to strain her memory, claiming it could hinder her recovery. He reminds her that she's lucky to be alive, subtly manipulating her into silence. The tension escalates when she discovers a chilling note: "Don't trust anyone". This cryptic message ignites her suspicions. Was her intuition correct? Did someone intentionally try to kill her? As she gazes into her husband's eyes, she sees only lies, and a terrifying question consumes her: "Will I make it out of this marriage alive…?"."The Liar I Married" promises to be a nail-biting psychological thriller filled with twists and turns. Readers describe it as "addictive" and "intriguing," with an ending that will leave you breathless. #Netgalley #TheLiarIMarried

A perfectly adequate psychological thriller. It was just okay. I enjoyed it and it went quick, but it will not be remembered for long….

📖Bookish Thoughts
This was a solid three-star read. While I found the plot a bit predictable and the pacing slower than I prefer, I still enjoyed the overall story. The audiobook narration by Kate Handford was solid and definitely elevated the experience.
There were some timeline jumps that made the story a little confusing at times, but for the most part, it was easy to follow. I think fans of psychological thrillers will appreciate the suspense and slow build of tension. It may not have completely surprised me, but it still kept my interest through to the end.
🖤 What to Expect
• Amnesia
• Timeline jumps
• Unreliable narrator
• Car crash mystery
• One main POV

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the advanced listening copy. All thoughts are my own.

I absolutely loved the narrators on this audiobook different voices for each character is an absolute win for me!
The story kept me guessing all the way through, it was intriguing and kept me wanting to read more or hear more until the very end!!! The ending was warming being that I doubted every single character at one point! Well done!!

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the early listening copy of The Liar I Married. This was my first DK Hood book and it did not disappoint, i really enjoyed the writing style and ability to string the reader a long with tension. I couldn't stop reading and enjoyed each and every twist. My heart broke for her knowing her twins were there and her not getting to see or know anything about them. The Narrator Kate Handford did a phenomenal job giving each character personality and presence.

I enjoyed this thriller so much. My mind went through so many different scenarios of who it was the guilty party. This is a great, quick read spent on the edge of your seat!

When Jessie wakes up, she finds herself in a hospital bed with a nurse, unsure of what has happened. She vaguely remembers that she’s been in a car accident, she doesn’t know how much time is passed, and most importantly, she doesn’t know where her twin daughters are. Jesse is told by the nurse that the doctor doesn’t want anyone telling her anything they need her to remember it on her own.
When Jessie’s husband John shows up, he won’t tell her anything either. Jesse starts to remember bits and pieces of the past and wonders that the man she has married is the man she thinks he is. She remembers Rebecca, his attorney who he spent a lot of late nights with, she remembers John not coming home some evenings at all. The only thing Jessie does not remember is what has happened to her girls and no one will tell her.
As Jessie tries to put the pieces together, we share in her fractured memories and try to piece the story together with her. Jessie doesn’t know who she can trust, she doesn’t even know if she can trust herself.
This was a really good listen, a great road trip book. Lots of twists and turns, and a good ending. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley, the audio house, narrator, and author for the opportunity to listen to a complimentary copy of this audiobook in return for a review, based upon my honest opinion.

She trusted him with her life. She shouldn’t have…
Waking in a hospital bed, she’s told she caused the crash, but the fragmented memories don’t add up. Her once-perfect marriage unraveled when John met Rebecca. He said they were just friends, but she saw the truth in their stolen glances.
Now, flashes of that night haunt her: John home late, Rebecca stepping out of his car, a heated argument. He urges her not to remember, claiming it will slow her recovery.
Then a chilling note appears: Don’t trust anyone.
Did someone try to kill her? As she looks into her husband’s lying eyes, she wonders,
Will she make it out alive?

The story is told through different timelines, alternating between the present day, where Jessie is trying to piece her life and memories back together, and the months leading up to the accident. This structure gives readers a deeper look into the emotional and psychological turmoil Jessie experienced beforehand, adding layers to the mystery.
While it’s not packed with “mind-blowing twists,” it was genuinely fun trying to figure out who to believe and who to trust. With so many suspicious characters, I found myself constantly questioning everyone’s motives, just like Jessie would have.
I listened to the audiobook and thought it was well done. I hadn’t heard this narrator before, but she brought the story to life and captured the tension throughout. Overall, an entertaining and suspenseful read!
Thank You @Netgalley and @BooktoureAudio for allowing me to review this ALC.

WOW!!! I have never read anything by this author, but must say after reading this one, I want to gobble up more.
Loved all the twists and definitely didn’t end up where I thought it was going to. To be honest, I was yelling at my phone a few times telling Jessie not to trust ANYONE!!!
Loved the characters and the scene.
Solid 4.5 stars!!!!!

This review contains spoilers!
I can't say this one was my favorite. It kept me just interested enough in who was plotting against Jessie to continue listening, but in general it just wasn't that great.
The Alex character was sweet but almost a little too good to be true. I kept waiting for him to be in on helping Micheal. Honestly, that would have made things more interesting.
Jessie was weak and not just because of the accident and what the nurse and Micheal were doing to her. She basically swept the thought that her husband could have had a baby outside their marriage under the rug. She was easily manipulated by her brother, and trusted Alex way to easily.
John.... Bruh! Who the hell decides to be a sperm donor while married and doesn't have a conversation with their wife first?! A sperm donor to her best friend at that!!! He was a horrible husband and person. She was dumb as hell for taking him back!
I appreciate the ARC copy of this book. I will give the author another try, but this book could have been better.

It's not often a book comes along with a twist I don't see coming, so this was a rare and enjoyable treat for me. The Liar I Married was an entertaining listen, delightfully narrated and completely engrossing..

✨AUDIO ALC 🎧 REVIEW ✨
this was a fast paced psychological thriller audiobook full of family drama, twists, and deceit and I definitely enjoyed it! I liked the writing style it was easy to follow and was well narrated by Kate Handford. Jesse waking up a year later from a coma and struggling with her memories and only remembering the car accident and what she was going through had me feeling sorry for her. She suspects that the crash was not an accident and tries to peace it all together. The story is told from only Jesse’s POV and goes back and forth from before and after the coma. This story had me guessing what happened, doubting and suspecting every character.
Definitely for readers of The Housemaid, The Girl on the Train and The Perfect Marriage.
Trigger warnings: gaslighting, emotional manipulation, memory loss, medical trauma, isolation
Thank you @netgalley and @bookouture for the Audio ALC in exchange for my honest review! 🩷

I wake up and don’t know what happened. I’m not sure who to trust. No one will tell me what happened. What is going on! This is a great story that will take you on a ride, you won’t know who to trust. It is thrilling and unputdownable, and I don’t use that lightly. Loved it. My first book by this author and bring on the rest!
