Thank you NetGalley for giving me the chance to read this!
This was a fast paced read that definitely kept the pages turning, but unfortunately, I struggled with the main character from the start. She was absolutely insufferable, weak, passive, and frustratingly helpless in situations where any real life mother would be demanding answers and fighting back. I’m all for suspending disbelief in thrillers, but some of the plot points here stretched too far into the unbelievable, considering her lack of reaction to the awful things happening around her.
That said, the pacing was solid, and it was easy to get through in a short time. If you enjoy thrillers and don’t mind an unlikable protagonist or a bit of implausibility, this might work better for you. It just didn’t quite land for me.

A woman awakens from a year long coma, with vague memories of being in a car accident but little else. She’s recuperating. or maybe I should say she’s being held captive in her grandmother‘s home while she recovers her memory. Her contact with the outside world is extremely limited and she’s kept in the dark about the events leading up to, during and after the crash. There doesn’t seem to be anyone she can trust, at least of all her husband. This is a well-known trope and suspense novels today, but the author throws in a few red herrings that keep the reader guessing.

Such an amazing book full of so many twists that keep having you guess what happened and who the real bad guy is and which characters can be trusted. Kept me pulled in the entire book

This is a crazy ride from the start to the finish. You think you have the right person and then it leaves you guessing. D.K.Hood has far out done herself in this thrill ride.
Jess has woken up in her grandmothers home. She has been in a car wreck and in a coma. She has now met her nurse named Dolly and has asked about her twin girls. She asks about her husband John. Then the nurse drugs her and she fights not to go to sleep again.
When she asks about the twins he tells her that she needs to recall everything on her own. That it would harm her recovery if she were told instead of remembering on her own.
Michael is her brother and her best friend. She talks to him about everything. Except that her grandmother left her entire estate to her. Not that she didn't give Michael and their mother a substantial amount of money. Jessie was a millionaire but her husband didn't think she was able to take care of the estate so he tried to get her to sign the estate over to him. Thankfully she was of sound mind and din't do it. Then she began to wonder how John knew the estate was hers at all. No one that she knew of had told him or anyone else about the will.
As Jessie starts to have her memory and her strength return she remembers that there was someone else in the car with her. That they had hit her on the right side of her head. That was how and why she hit the tree. Then she started to second guess herself. Is that really what happened? Then she over hears a phone call that Dolly has. She doesn't know who she is talking to but she tells the other person that Jessie is starting to remember the night of the accident and the argument.

This is such a twisted story that it will leave you still guessing what just happened. Amazing book! Thank you D.K. Hood for such a great story and roller coaster ride. Thank you to NetGalley for the early read!

I really wanted to love this one - the premise was exactly my kind of story. A woman wakes up from a coma with no memory, starts suspecting her husband is cheating, and slowly unravels the truth? That had potential. Unfortunately, the execution just didn’t work for me.

The story follows Jessie, who wakes up after a traumatic accident with memory loss. From there, we jump back and forth between the present and the months leading up to the event. It’s meant to build suspense, but I found myself more confused than intrigued - especially with the logic gaps. Was she put in a coma because she was emotional, or because she was severely injured? The book can’t seem to decide.

Jessie’s husband John is a walking red flag, and the way she justifies his behavior over and over again was maddening. I kept waiting for her to snap out of it, but instead we just got more gaslighting, more shady side characters, and way too much of the word “Miss Lawson.”

There are also strange details that feel thrown in just for shock value - like Jessie’s best friend being "lost at sea"? That’s never really explored, and it felt like a bizarre side note that went nowhere.

The twists were another letdown. Instead of feeling earned, they came out of nowhere and didn’t quite land. The “before” chapters dragged, the pacing felt uneven, and the emotional stakes never quite hit. It all started to feel more like a dramatic soap opera than a psychological thriller.

I was curious enough to finish the book, even if the ending didn’t quite deliver the punch I’d hoped for.

My first ARC audio book.
This was the first time I had read a book (well listened) by this author.
This is a great popcorn psychological thriller. It had me hooked from the very beginning.
Jessie wakes up from a coma and doesn't know what has happened until her memory starts to come back slowly, and she discovers the truth.
I will definitely be adding more books by D.K. Wood to my TBR.
Thank you to the author for giving me this opportunity to read this book before the release date and thank you to Netgalley.

This book unfortunately fell flat for me. It was quite repetitive and felt like the plot was circling around itself.

Picked this up not expecting too much, but I was hooked within a few pages. It’s one of those psychological thrillers that wastes no time getting to the good stuff. Thinkshady husband, unsettling secrets, and a protagonist who’s slowly realizing her life is nothing like she thought it was.

It gave me “married the wrong man and now my life is a suspense novel” energy. The tension builds steadily and had me flipping pages way past bedtime. A few plot twists were predictable if you’ve read a lot in this genre, but it didn’t take away from the ride it still hit hard in the right places.

Also, major points for atmosphere. That creeping sense of “something’s not right” never really lets up, which I loved. It’s not gory or super dark, but it keeps you uncomfortable in the best way. I wouldn’t say it’s groundbreaking, but it definitely scratched the thriller itch.

If you like domestic thrillers that are quick to devour but still leave you thinking “wait, what just happened?” This one’s for you. Solid 4 stars.

Let me just say: I was 70% into this book and still had no idea how everything was going to come together 🫣
and that’s exactly what I want in a thriller. Twists that are truly unexpected, a story that keeps you guessing until the very end… this book delivers all of that and more.

I listened to the audiobook version, and honestly? I couldn’t stop. Just like Jessie, I needed answers. You simply can’t put this one down .
it hooks you from the first chapter and never lets go.

Add this to your TBR immediately. If you don’t, you’ll be missing out on an absolutely gripping 5-star read!

I was hooked and binge listened to this high quality psychological thriller told from the point of view of Jessie as she awakes after a year of being in a coma and tries to find the truth about the past , the accident and her future. The drip feeding of the history and non linear structure had me gripped as i grew to care about jessie and twist after twist along with some red herrings had me up long into the night. It was action and emotive and realistic. It also showed the way situations can be viewed and how insecurities can lead people to thinking the worst. The final reveal was not what i expected and yet it fitted perfectly. I was sad it was over but it felt that all characters had their plots resolved. Jessie was well developed, it might have benefited from a pov of Dolly for a chapter as while I loved learning about the interaction from jessie pov i felt this would have added some weight to the story and more dramatics. The only thing I was not sure of when i had finished listening was whether the title was the right one, however i can see why it was chosen but wonder if there was something stronger. I highly recommend this it was so engaging and entertaining. Thank you netgallery, publisher and author and narrators for this 5 star listen

Where to even begin with this one? This book is so strange.

It jumps between present day (when Jessie wakes up from a coma) and the months leading up to the accident. I listened to the audio version, and while the narrator was a great fit for the character, if I had to hear her say “Miss Lawson” one more time, I was going to lose it. That’s how Jessie refers to her husband’s lawyer — the one she suspects he’s sleeping with — but it sounds like a kid talking about their kindergarten teacher.

From the start, I was just as confused as Jessie. They say she was put in an induced coma because she was “freaking out,” but then also say she wasn’t expected to live after the accident. Which is it? Nobody’s getting medically sedated for a year because they’re upset, what even is this logic?

The nurse refuses to let anyone but her husband visit, won’t answer her questions, and won’t even tell her if her daughters are alive. It’s clearly shady, but also completely unrealistic. Like, her parents wouldn’t be banging down the door? Come on.

Then there’s the husband, a walking red flag from day one. He’s terrible to her and she just keeps making excuses. She never should have married him to begin with. I spent half the book yelling, leave him!

I could go on forever about all the weird details and small plot holes, like the random one-off line about her former best friend Jane being “lost at sea.” (Excuse me???) But I’ll spare you.

In the end, it was entertaining, even if it was predictable. I was dying to know what really happened the night of the accident, even if the payoff at the end was… underwhelming.

I’m giving this a generous three stars because it did keep me hooked, but I am beyond relieved I never have to hear the name Miss Lawson again. And RIP Jane, may she rest easy… somewhere off the coast, I guess?

Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture Audi for the opportunity to listen to this one.

I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of The Liar I Married by D.K. Hood. This gripping psychological thriller follows a woman who wakes from a year-long coma only to find herself the heir to a fortune—and unsure of who she can truly trust.

The story kept my attention from beginning to end. I loved the way the author played with trust and suspicion—just when you start to believe in a character, something shifts, and you're no longer sure who to root for. The cast of characters was tight and well-developed, which helped the pacing and let the twists really shine.

At times, I did wish the author trusted the reader a bit more to make connections without over-explaining. Still, this was an entertaining, fast-paced thriller that fans of the genre will enjoy. Looking forward to reading more from D.K. Hood.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of the audiobook of The Liar I Married by D.K. Hood This was a fast paced and twisty listen that kept me engaged throughout. The story follows Ellie as she begins to suspect that the man she married may not be who he says he is. The tension builds steadily as the truth starts to unravel, and I found myself second guessing everyone right up to the end.

The narrator really brought the characters to life and helped to carry the emotional tension of the story. Their delivery added a real sense of urgency without ever being overdone. A solid psychological thriller with strong pacing and some genuinely surprising moments. Fans of domestic suspense will find a lot to enjoy here.

This kept me on my toes the entire time - loved it so much - it kept my heart and thoughts racing as I kept trying to piece together with the FMC what was real and what wasn't

I could not stop listening to this book! The narrator did a great job setting the tone and voicing each character. Jessie had overlooked John's indiscretions when they first married, but after inheriting her grandmother's fortune, everything seems to take a turn for the worse. And then, Jessie is involved in a terrible accident that leaves her in a coma. Upon waking from the coma, weak and confused, she does not know who she can trust in her environment. Highly recommend!

The Liar I Married
DK Hood

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Having absolutely loved my last DK Hood read - Dark Angel - I just had to grab this new release with both hands.
Not part of the same series as my first read, but I loved the way the writing style had drawn me in and had high hopes for this read as well.

Right from the first page, I was hooked and honestly couldn't stop reading this.
After waking up from a year long coma after her car accident, Jesse struggled to make sense of her jumbled memories and fought to try and fill in the missing gaps - as well as understand the current events as she continued to recover.

I just could not trust a single person in this book!
Not even Jesse herself at times - with her memories emerging bit by bit, our information was ever changing.
This made it so hard to know what was real and to form our own theories about what happened on the night of the accident and moreso, what was happening now.

I loved this format which was told from only Jesse's pov.
This kept the mystery surrounding all the other characters intact throughout and kept me racing through the pages just waiting for the next twist or memory to emerge and put that doubt back in my mind.

I felt so sorry for Jesse and what she was going through - things were so confusing, but also heartbreaking and creepy at times.

This was perfectly paced - with something happening all the time.
The tension and suspense built and built right to the end and even when we thought we'd worked out all the details, there was more to come.

Another great read and I'm already looking forward more soon.

💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

This book grabbed my attention and kept me engaged in the story through the entire book. I loved that the main character wasn’t sure who she could trust pretty much until the end. Great read! I look forward to reading more from this author.

First off I want to say the narrator did a fab job for this and her voice was really engaging!

The main character had enough depth that you were interested in what was happening to her and I enjoyed the unreliable narrator aspect.

The plot did feel pretty basic for this genre and found it pretty predictable. Nothing really set it apart from other books that have done similar plots. However the pacing was very good and I found it quick and easy to read.

Overall a decent and enjoyable listen but not something I'll be thinking about much now I'm finished.

Big thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC! This was my first book by D.K. Hood, and while the premise had me hooked, the execution didn’t fully land for me. The story starts off intriguing and I was curious to see how it would all unfold. I listened to this as an audiobook while at work and flew through it pretty quickly.

The plot does take some wild turns, especially with the manipulation and betrayal, which kept me going. But as someone who reads a lot of thrillers, this one missed the mark. There were moments where the pacing dragged- and I struggled to stay invested.

That said, newer thriller readers might find this one more gripping. It has all the right elements: deception, family, betrayal, and psychological unraveling. It just didn’t deliver the depth or tension I was hoping for.
