I couldn’t wait to get back to Kitty, Beatrice and Lily at Dunbar’s hotel, and I was not in the least disappointed. The story continues will heart-tugging emotion and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
The Wartime Hotel books are everything a saga series should be. The friendship between the women is front and centre, and their bond becomes even closer through all the ups and downs this book brings. It could be said that Lily is centre stage this time, and watching the young woman mature following the tragedy she suffered was an absolute joy.
Maisie Thomas completely immerses you in the wartime world, every page showing you what it was like to live through those terrible times, with no need to tell you at all. No need to waste valuable pages with reems of descriptive detail; it’s woven into every scene, allowing the story to unfold at the perfect pace.
There’s a wonderful trail of breadcrumbs too, making me both terrified to read the next book for what I fear will happen, and the secrets I dread coming out, but also filling me with joy and yes, a hopeful heart, for the next instalment in these women’s lives. I absolutely loved this book, and can barely wait for March when the final book is published.

A fantastic return to Dunbars. I enjoyed catching up with these characters, all have their own independent storyline going on but are interwoven as they all turn to support and help each other. Although the storage business is successful., Kitty needs more money. Lily makes surprising choices and now needs to face the consequences and Beatrice is faced with her past - can she overcome the emotions that brings.
I really like the characters and their stories, the sense of family (chosen family) is strong. Nice to have a set of strong women who don’t need to rely on men.
As always, well written and nicely paced. I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.

Part of a series and such a lovely book about friendship and companionship. Set during ww2 can’t wait for what’s to come

Part of a series featuring the lives and loves of a strong team of women. Set during the war in what was once a hotel, the women work hard to survive. An excellent read.

A historical fiction book that was so heartwarming to read. About great female friendships that last a lifetime
Already awaiting the next book

A wonderful book about life during WWll. It is such a heartwarming story of true female friendship. It is a quick and cozy read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for the chance to read this book I loved it . The second book in the series about a group of women that live in a hotel during the war . I liked the friendships that developed and the relationships , true war spirit.
This book is very well written and Maisie is such a good writer . I can’t wait for book 3

Great story, I really enjoyed book 2 of the women living in Dunbars hotel during WW2. Dunbars has now opened up a reception room and they are hosting wedding receptions on top of the storage business. The women are still doing their war work and the bombs are dropping. The emotions in this book are all over the place, so much going on! I literally couldn’t put it down. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series. Highly recommended 5⭐️

A great WWII story. Faced with the debts of her husband, Kitty sets up her house as a hotel for victims that have lost their homes to bombs. A wonderful story.

World War Two historical fiction has become a reading obsession. Authors, like Maisie Thomas, have given me so many glimpses into the past. To not just learn about the war, but about those that remain and at home, has me openning book after book.
Hopeful Hearts at Wartme Hotel continues the stories of those living at the Dunbar Hotel. Although it really isn't a hotel anymore. It has become something I never really thought about before reading these books. Instead of guests, the rooms are occupied by the property of those that no longer have homes.
Open the book and follow Beatrice as she tries to help children forced to grow up too soon. Instead of playing; they wait in food lines. Instead of going to school; they cleaned the home. Instead of being a child, they were forced to grow up and take care of a parent that should be caring for them.
Let your respect for Kitty grow. She is thinking of the many ways to keep Dunbar Hotel afloat. Like pulling a rabbit out of a hat; she turns a room into a reception hall. She takes in lodgers by giving up her own rooms. I didn't know how lucky I was until I discovered that as a wife, Kitty had no rights, no money. For Kitty, cash is her savior, determination her motto of survival.
Tears flowed as bombs exploded. Even when people thought they were safe, they weren't. An unexploded bomb puts everyone and everything at risk. The loss of life broke my heart. Thank goodness for the volunteers that stepped up when necessary.
Get lost in the pages and experience what it was like for the British Subjects at home. Learn of predjudice and exeptance. Learn of love and loss. Learn of expectations and restrictions. Get ready for the next book that will hopefully grab you all over again.

The second in the series based on a group of women living in a wartime hotel. Full of joy and heartbreak. Very well written and highly recommended. I look forward to reading the next in the series. I was lucky enough to read an advanced copy and leave this review willingly.

A great installment, I really enjoyed catching up with the goings on at the Dunbar hotel, a great storyline with fantastic characters who I'm enjoying getting to know, looking forward to reading more.

I absolutely loved every page of this book as I did book one
Miss Brewster, Mrs Dunbar snr, and and Bill really make you want to shout at them, horrible people
I loved Lily, and Beatrice I really want them to have a happy ending but life isn't always perfect, so we'll have to see.
All great characters brought to life by the fantastic Maisie Thomas and looking forward to book three.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd book in the series and am anxious to see future installments!
The characters are realistic - they make mistakes, they encounter pitfalls, they have happy times. Some are more likeable than others!
I look forward to seeing how Lily & Daniel fare, and wish Beatrice & Frank could've made a go of it..........

Another great read set in war torn Manchester. It was a delight to go back to Dunbars and catch up with Lily, Kitty and Beatrice and to see a little overlap between them and some characters from The Railway girls. A book where the characters a tasked with lots of hard decisions and nothing is a smooth sailing as it should be. I liked seeing how Kitty found solutions and how the rest of the household supported each other. Can’t wait for the next book.

Although Dunbars storage facility is thriving, Kitty needs to find other ways to make money. With the help of her friends and daughter Abbie, she decides to hold wedding receptions in the old dining room of the hotel. Beatrice is still working in the Corporation helping children with responsibilities and Lily is involved with the WVS. When some children are in danger, Lily and fellow rescuer Dr Shawston work together to avert tragedy. The couple are drawn to each other but Lily is still married. Beatrice comes face to face with past love, Frank, whose daughter was one of the children saved by Lily and Dr Shawston. Will hearts be mended or broken once again. Another wonderful book, looking forward to the next chapter in this wartime saga.

Another heartwarming book from Maisie Thomas. Every character is full of warmth. I just adore this series. Bring the next one soon please

Lived up to expectations! Returning to Dunbar’s where Kitty continues to make her business work, without the help of her husband Bill who is a spendthrift. The biggest problem Kitty has is that Bill has control over the finances which was the norm then, women being unsuitable to hold the account, mainly due to the husband having control over everything. How will she surmount this problem?
Meanwhile, while sheltering from the rain, Beatrice comes face to face with her past. What effect will it have on her life.
Lily who lacks confidence is torn with how to progress with her life after suffering a great loss, is unsure when she meets someone.
The biggest threat to the “family” friendship that has grown between the three women occurs when Kitty’s mother-in-law Ivy comes to stay, she just doesn’t know how to keep her opinions to herself.
I loved this book, it was interesting how the women haw matured with their individual life experiences. I liked that the author described how each was feeling about the actions they were taking. My favourite character was Lily, least favourite was Miss Brewster who thought herself better than others.
Loved the nod to Bessie Beech & the Atkinsons, especially as Samuel was my favourite character in that book.
Now to wait for book 3.

Yet another cracking book by Maisie. Hopeful hearts at the wartime hotel is the second book in and around the Dunbar hotel. Owned now by Bill, Kittys husband but run as a storage for people who have been made homeless. Bill is a spendthrift and even serving in the forces he still spends as Kitty soon discovers. Beatrice and Lily still reside at the dunbar and have their own romantic problems to deal with when Mrs Dunbar senior finds herself homeless, Kitty has no choice but to offer her a home too. This book is definately a 5 ☆ read.

Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
Another good book by this author, family saga and wartime what more can you ask for only more
